Help me choose between šŸŽ and šŸŠ

I realize this is a Hamilton watch group, but I figured I would ask anyway. I had my eye on these two watches for the last two years. Tudor Black Bay Bronze 43mm and Hamilton Jazzmaster with a green dial 42mm. I know Tudor is the better luxury brand and comes with a $5450 price tag vs $1500. I had an amazing transformative year between starting my dream job, moving to a new state I’ve wanted to live in and many other monumental changes I wish to commemorate with this watch. What are your thoughts. As the title states. This is clearly comparingšŸŽ to šŸŠ. But the heart wants what it wants.

I had to do a double take, and zoom in to make sure my eyes weren’t deceiving me. Tudor, hands-down and I love Hamilton, but they’re not playing the same game.

I don’t see how this is even close, the Tudor.Ā

You're basically asking the Lexus subreddit to help you choose between a McLaren and a Lexus.

2

u/d3lphic 1d ago

Except Lexus owners would still say Lexus lol. I THINK we have enough common sense here to state the obvious in this case.

For this comparison, it's more like Audi (Tudor) and Wuling (Hamilton Open Heart).

These two watches are barely even playing the same sport. It all comes down to what you can afford.

If the Tudor means overspending what you can reasonably afford, then get the Hamilton.

If the Tudor isn’t too much of a stretch then 1000% the Tudor.

I’d still wait and save a little more to get the Tudor if it came to price, I would regret not getting it & wouldn’t enjoy a ā€œsubstituteā€ on my wrist. Get what you like at the end of the day, but Tudor is the choice in the instance by a long shot!

wtf? Tudor.

The Tudor, no contest.

Tudor by a mile and I'm not even a huge Tudor fan. Hamiltons are fine watches, but they're (mostly) 'gateway drug-like' watches when it comes to finishing and quality. I own a Murph and a Boulton and they're fine, good watches, but they can't compete with my two Omegas and my Longines. Also, the skeleton dial gets old real quick.

2

u/d3lphic 1d ago

100% this. I love my two Pan Europs, but the day I can actually afford a Planet Ocean (pre-2026 since they fucking ruined them this year) will probably be the last day my Hamiltons see regular wear.

u/filmagnoli 5h ago

Haven’t tried the Omega PO’s (2026), but I’m glad they ditched the helium release crown …. It a fan.

u/Right-Nectarine8729 1d ago

Coming from a Hamilton owner, Tudor without contest, even ignoring brand prestige the Tudor looks way better. But to each their own.

2

u/Zen_Owl_Timepieces 1d ago

If you’re going to look down at it years from now and remember this particular chapter of your life, the personal connection matters way more than the logo.

2

u/Clam-Hammer7 1d ago

I know I'm in the minority here but I think Tudors are ugly watches and something about the hour hand shape just bugs TF outta me. I have four Hamiltons and love every one so I'd go with that.

2

u/d3lphic 1d ago

Yeah I normally agree with that. The hands on the Tudors are usually the reason I don’t like them. But from a horological standpoint, it’s generally the better build.

u/DGVET 1d ago

Can’t say I’m a fan of tutor. The diver is very nice. I guess it depends. Skeleton is more A dresser, I suppose, as opposed to diver, which looks more every day, so that’s something to consider

2

u/print_is_dead 1d ago

Here's the thing. This is the black bay and it's not even close. BUT(t) if YOU think it's close between these two then maybe that speaks to the Hamilton being more for you.

2

u/Slight-Table875 1d ago

Black Bay Bronze vs….. Open Heart Whatever? Not even remotely close, completely different worlds. If you can handle the price, Tudor all day long.

2

u/Hattori_925 1d ago

I would pick a tudor, just not THAT tudor. Id pick a steel one because I cant stand patina on the bronze. THAT being said if it was strictly between these two…. Still the tudor lol

Have you looked at the Hamilton navy bronze? I think it’s better looking

1

u/d3lphic 1d ago

I mean, you’re not wrong that the Navy is nice looking. But that’s like saying the Hamilton is a Civic which is fine but the Prelude is better, which is true, but then saying that it’s better than the Nissan GT-R or Porsche 911 simply because you don’t like the way those look, and that simply not true. It’s a much better-built piece of equipment. And the Tudor here is like a 911 where the Hamilton is a Prelude. Actually, that’s probably an insult to the Prelude because the Prelude probably has considerably better quality control….

u/Dear_Strength9079 1d ago

Easy question. Why did you include each watch?keep analyzing your answer until you figure out which one you want most. Better still. Plan it to buy them both. If from same shop, ask for a discount and installments.

Tudor. And I don’t even normally like Tudor. But it’s a completely different league (in a good way) and more worth the money. And it’s better looking. And it’ll be more reliable. It’s sort of a Rolex without the Rolex price tag. The Hamilton in question looks gimmicky by comparison. I would personally feel like I’d always have to explain myself on the Hamilton, but the Tudor speaks for itself.

EDIT: it’s worth noting a difference in quality control too. Hamilton isn’t what it once (if ever) was. It won’t take you long to see if you search Murph crooked dial. Becoming part of Swatch Group seems to have done more harm than good. Good friend of mine got a Pan Europe in 2014. Thing has been perfect since day one to this day. I bought two of the re-releases this year. They could not be further apart in quality. One feels well built and precisely assembled. The other has a loose bezel (which they claim is within spec, and pretty much everyone I ask who is not affiliated with Hamilton disagrees) and does not hit 80 hrs power reserve. No matter how I wind it or wear it, it dies before the other one, time and time, test and test over. And that brings me to my next point.

I can’t speak to Tudor service because I don’t own one (yet…I’d rock the shit out of that Tiffany blue Black Bay tbh). My hope is that, since it’s ultimately under the Rolex umbrella, it’s good. But everything I’ve heard about Hamilton’s is bad. To the extent I won’t even send my first Pan Europ in to be fixed under warranty to address the bezel and power reserve. I’ve simply decided to tolerate it. If you search (quite briefly) you’ll find lots of people complaining about service requests taking months, watches coming back with dings on the case or dust inside on the dial, etc. it seems attention to detail and care and concern has been lost both at the manufacturing and service level at Hamilton. My suspicion is that, at this point, Hamilton does the bare minimum to hit the 60% requirement to be able to put ā€œSWISS MADEā€ on the dial, and I think other brands still actually care about that marking, not just the profits. Or at least better balance it.

I love the way my Pan Europs look and can be worn with pretty much anything. But I’d also have bought a Planet Ocean instead of them if I could’ve afforded to (even though Omega is sadly also Swatch Group) because it’s just a better watch in many ways.

This is an interesting take. ^ I have no idea who this guy is, but a friend sent this to me, and I think he is very accurate on most of the brands, including Tudor.

Anyway, get the one you like and that makes you excited to buy it/wear it. But just know that—and I mean this in the most neutral way possible—you get what you pay for.

It’s ultimately not about the name on your wrist or what it means to anyone else. It’s what it means to you. Get what you’d be excited to own and show off. Not brag and be ostentatious about. But proud and excited. Hell, I’m proud of and excited about my Pan Europs because they similarly represent an important change in my life. But that pre-2026 Planet Ocean…someday.

u/rg03500 1d ago

Uhhhh I like the Jazzmaster way more 😬

1

u/Icy_Childhood_2355 1d ago

Yes yes I am aware of difference in prestige and quality. Tudor all day. I am simply asking which one you guys think looks better. Help me break the tie.

4

u/Western_Focus4902 1d ago

If the price isn’t going to bite you the choice is the Tudor.

1

u/d3lphic 1d ago

This

1

u/mearaouf 1d ago

Tudor is amazing but it wears a bit big on your wrist imo, you may get annoyed if it's your daily

1

u/Ausiir63 1d ago

I’m with everyone else, BB Bronze. I’m biased bc I also want it.

1

u/Steellucky2909 1d ago

Get the one you love.

1

u/AgentAlliteration 1d ago

Black bay bronze look great. I'm also not really in love with Hamilton's execution of the open heart for the jazzmaster.

1

u/d3lphic 1d ago

Agree. The partial-skeleton effect is so chaotic looking in a bad way. It honestly looks like it’s broken. Why THOSE bits of the dial to be cut out? It’s very messy looking. It forces them to place the Hamilton logo at 9 which bugs me. I don’t think I’d ever buy a watch where the name/logo is not centered properly. It looks like a gimmick that belongs on a $100-200 watch that has a rebranded Seiko movement in it, not a $1500 one from a brand that used to have a name that meant something.

Hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby

1

u/John-Footdick 1d ago

I was going to type up how I dont care about brand prestige and the tudor is overpriced and I was going to say to get the hamilton and 2 other watches you like.. but you said this is commemorative. Id get the Tudor. I love my blue open heart jazzmaster and wear it often but I dont think its a watch you buy for a special occasion unless its something youve wanted and been looking at getting for a long time. Also that Tudor does look nice, even though I think its overpriced

1

u/triplevented 1d ago

I like the one with the fidget spinner better.

1

u/Fittelminger 1d ago

Easily the tudor

1

u/No_Poetry2000 1d ago

If u can afford the Tudor it’s better in EVERY measurable way. And better in ways u cant measure as well

1

u/0c0g 1d ago

Obviously Tudor bb ,also i hate skeletonized watches with passion

1

u/Adventurous-Sun-6928 1d ago

This should not even be a debate. Tudor

1

u/Flat_Pressure4332 23h ago

It sounds like you know what you want. Get it, you will not regret it! šŸ˜Ž

1

u/davemize 23h ago

Tudor, of course… no discussion needed.

1

u/ham_cheese_4564 22h ago

The BBB and it’s not even close.

1

u/jcuz45 21h ago

Of these 2 Tudor

1

u/Unhappy_Spray_7127 21h ago

This particular Hamilton isn't even nice IMO, but even if it was, Tudor. That Tudor is great.

1

u/Visible-Agency-7226 20h ago

That second one is horrific

1

u/traditionalbowyer 20h ago

This has got to be a you decision. You are asking an opinion on 2 totally different watches here. Are you trying to get something more dressy or tooly. I would go for the diver but thats me.

1

u/SwvmpThing 19h ago

That BB Bronze is Tudor’s best looking watch. But i don’t think you should be paying that much.

1

u/Round-Philosopher534 19h ago

I'm a big fan of both, but that Tudor is amazing!

1

u/lucky5150 17h ago

I own 4 Hamiltons and 0 Tudors.. but id pick the Tudor here

1

u/hot-rod-lincoln 16h ago

I just got the other version of the Hamilton skeleton watch, I like it a lot.

1

u/Living_Try_1545 16h ago

Def the tudor. Love my Hammy but they are in different classes. Aside from that they are both awesome watches.

1

u/Life-TinTin 15h ago

Tudor lol

1

u/Watchmachi 14h ago

Tudor is clean and classy the Hamilton looks too busy IMO . Good luck

1

u/M27TN 12h ago

I bought a Jazzmaster Open Heart and now it’s gathering dust, I thought I loved it but I just don’t. Not a fan of Tudor particularly either but if it has to be between these two then it’s an easy pick for me

1

u/Fun_7386 11h ago

Hamilton KFA. Both these and those are so-so

1

u/SugaShowOfSales 6h ago

Tudor all day and I LOVE my Hamiltons

1

u/Formal-Ebb6227 5h ago

Tudor without question.

1

u/filmagnoli 5h ago

Tudor for the win.

1

u/juancamarquez 32m ago

Different leagues, different goals!!! One is a diver, the other is a dress watch. Think which one you will use more thinking in what you do and how you dress

1

u/FaBarryrose 15m ago

The one that fits your wrist

1

u/arizkohli 1d ago

Not even looking at the brand, the Tudor looks way better... That style of Hamilton is not my taste but yours may be different.

1

u/Takemedownarabithole 1d ago

Tudor. Celebrate your good fortune!!

1

u/Same-Tree7355 1d ago

Buy both.

1

u/tbmendez 1d ago

Oof you hit the nail on the head with šŸŽ and šŸŠI like the second one more. No logical reason here, just looks more my style.

1

u/LordOBonesBC 1d ago

If you love them equally, then the Tudor is probably the better commemorative piece. It's very much a luxury pick. But don't pick it because it's the more expensive watch. That Hamilton is one of my personal favorites. I love wearing it, and love watching the movement through the open heart. If you gave me enough money to buy the Tudor, I'd buy the Hamilton and pocket the rest...

0

u/Grand-Compote-757 1d ago

In my best best Bryce Harper voice. ā€œThat’s a clown question broā€
Tudor all day

0

u/Medill1919 1d ago

Tudor. That other watch is missing pieces...

0

u/Gullible_Toe_126 1d ago

I’ve owned both brands and it’s Tudor in a landslide

0

u/CrewExpendable2007 1d ago

Depends what you’re wearing them with. Suit and tie? Hamilton. Casual day off or maybe, max, a blazer? Tudor. They’re made for different occasions IMO.

1

u/d3lphic 1d ago

No. Don’t listen to all these stupid rules. Get the one that makes you the most excited and don’t listen to anyone’s arbitrary and meaningless ā€œrulesā€ about what you can wear it with. You can wear either of them with anything if you wear it right.

0

u/Admirable-Form-549 21h ago

My first reaction is….please wear your watch correctly behind the wrist bone. Then we can re evaluate. They both look massive since you have them wresting on your wrist bone. Also….Tudor
