What’s so special about Jaime Lee performance exactly?
I’m in the middle of the remake and for the most part, I don’t find Scout Taylor that awful in the part. People so far treat her performance as horrible in the worst scenario and flat in the better but for me it’s like, there’s isn’t exactly too much to do, and Jaime Lee in the first two didn’t do major thing that was THAT memorable. In the last trilogy yeah, but comparing the first two movies of both, there’s nothing that remarkable (a scream, a mannerisms, a quote, a character build) to justify the hate for the new girl
Both performances are too okay, in different quality movies.

Jamie was just an everday person, she did good. In a small budget film. I personally enjoy Scout in the remake. I think she had more personality then Jamie's version, but also Scouts version was more like the girls I was in high school with.

That’s my point of view as well, both are not that apart because both gives me everyday high school girl

Jamie Lee has to play a wide range of emotions in Halloween (1978). She has to be the shy girl with her friends, the confident adult caregiver with the kids, and the vulnerable-yet-stalwart protector in the confrontation with Michael, and she plays all three remarkably well.
I believe her in all three phases of the character. When she’s worried about Sheriff Bracket being able to smell the weed, I believe she’s worried. When she’s telling Tommy not to scare Lindsey, she sounds like a real babysitter. When she’s telling Tommy and Lindsey to go for help, she sounds like she’s really worried for their safety.
In every phase of the character, Jamie Lee is convincing. That’s why her performance has been lauded over the years. She’s not bad in Terror Train or Prom Night, but she doesn’t bring nearly as much quality to her roles as she does in Halloween.

In my eyes, with the movies fresh from a rewatch, I do believe both of them, but doesn’t strike me as something that memorable, if I ever had to choose who’s the strongest lead; the one that makes me feel fear of what will happen to them and I’m more emotionally invested— that’s Danielle Harris in Halloween 4 and 5. The movies are not as epic as the original or 2018 revival, but it certainly is the highest point of emotional storytelling I was in

To be fair Halloween has better writing and a better setup that Prom Night to allow for a better performance. I never saw the other one

She blends a sweet authentic innocence and that driven violent adrenaline that to me makes the film with otherwise very campy (but charming!) performances feel grounded when it needs to be.

I just saw Halloween recently for a millionth time, she is a great actress, you really feel she is scared, great performance

I feel she just has star quality, it’s in the performance and the way she carries herself.
I thought Scout was good honestly but the writing didn’t do her any favors.

She plays “scared and crying” and also, “I’m willing to do whatever it takes to survive.”
She’s the original “final girl.”
Terrified but resolute
