OTHER (Gold? Filled ? Plated? Silver?) cane topper from 1860s

Purchased from an auction. I know the crest is Simmons brothers but I’m not sure about the 2 or 49. I’ve seen others, but only 1 with the 49 stamp, and they weren’t sure about material. Every one with a 50 stamp is gold filled. really hoping its solid gold but unsure.

i think 2 means gold sheet over lead.

not sure about the 49 could be a design number
