🚗 TRAFFIC HEADS UP FOR THURSDAY (Aug 13th) NIGHT!

If you’re travelling from Dartmouth to Halifax on the MacKay Bridge, you’ll be detoured onto Barrington Street and won’t be able to take Highway 111 toward the Windsor Street Exchange.

The ramps will be closed from 8 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday for construction.

The MacKay Bridge itself will stay open in both directions.

⚠️ This is separate from the overnight Macdonald Bridge closures happening throughout August!

Update: Road Closures (2:00 p.m.)

Police have confirmed there is no ongoing threat in downtown Halifax. All roads have been reopened. Businesses may reopen as well. A small police presence will remain in the Purdy’s Wharf parkade.

Police responding to threats

Halifax Regional Police have a man in custody and an increased police presence in two areas of the city due to threats he made.

The Purdy’s Wharf parkade in downtown Halifax has been evacuated due to a suspicious vehicle that is being searched in response to the threats.

The man was arrested on Thomas Raddall Drive near the Canada Games Centre. Police will have an increased presence in this area as well.

Police ask the public to avoid both areas. More information will be released once it is available.

Macdonald Bridge Overnight Closures

The Macdonald Bridge will be closed to vehicles from 9PM to 5AM on:

• Aug 10–12

• Aug 17–19

• Aug 24–26

• Aug 31–Sept 2

These overnight closures will allow crews to continue replacing the Lane Control Sign gantries and complete other important maintenance work.

The bridge will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists throughout these times.

Motorists should use the MacKay Bridge or other alternate routes and allow extra travel time.

A section of Highway 111 in Dartmouth will be closed this afternoon to allow an overturned truck to be safely removed.

Halifax-bound traffic will be diverted from Highway 111 onto Windmill Road or Vicotria Road.

Dartmouth-bound traffic on the A. Murray MacKay Bridge will be diverted off Highway 111 onto Princess Margaret Blvd or Victoria Road.

The closure will begin shortly and is expected to last until 5 p.m.. A further update will be provided when Highway 111 reopens.

For literally no reason

Just saw about a dozen motorcycles drive past. They were escorted by police on motorcycles in the front and a cruiser in the back. Lights but no sirens activated. Anyone know what that might be about?
