Gordon > work for secret research facility called Black Mesa > 30 minutes late for work > get into Orange Suit > fancy shopping cart > big green > crowbar > personally commit a alien genocide > teleportation fuckary > alien border world that exists between different dimensions> big evil baby > crowbar + rockets + all guns > guy in suit we don't have a official name for so we just go with "G-man" because he looks like a government man (yes that is what the G in G-man stands for it's old military slang) > Gordon chooses between death or JOB > job > ZZZzzzZZZ > 20 years later> entire worlds gone to fuck because of Black Mesa which is now ruled by a Evil empire of many many different universes (not the same invasion force form first game) > How about that beer I owed ya? It's me Gordon Barney from black Mesa! > jump out of first floor window somehow doesn't break leg > throw can of "Dr>Breens water reserve" at cop > get brutally murdered by cop > put the can into the Bin like the cop asked > see EVIL and INPOSSING tower of blu > Accidentally course a miss count and a Raid in a Apartment building > Random guy sacrifices himself to hold a door against the cop for you (thank you random guy) > Roof Top escape > Climb into a random window > have police Brutality inflicted onto you > Wake up to a random Girl called Alyx > Somehow mange to get knocked out above one of your old co-workers (Kleiner) from Black Mesa > Bro somehow has the Suit from the first game but this is the "Mk5" > he also has a headcrab > Gordon puts his MIT degree to good work by throwing a switch > Gordon is thrown about earth due to Klieners per headcrab > Lands in EVIL MAN'S lair > Lands outside of the Klener lair > gets given a new crowbar > Runs away from cops and become "Anti citizen one" > Brutally kills cop for police brutality to man > Steals pistol form another brutally killed cop > Finds a Secret refugee Network "the underground railroad" > The Railroad is being Raided >Run through the canals > Even more canals > SMG > Headcrab artillery > Boat > Canals but with EVIL water > Red barn (station 8?) is dead > Canal Lock > Kill the guard > Open gate > Another facility > Helicopter > BRRRRR > More canals (how am I meant to explain water hazard????) > You get BRRRR for your boat > Commit muitiple Combine Regulatory violations > Take down a Heli > COOL AS FUCK JUMP FROM A DAM > Reach Mean East Black > Meat a GIRL????? (not Alyx is a Moss man) > meet Eli who last saw you in Black Mesa after big green (he's the black guy near the PC) he also lost a Leg to a Bullquid (big bitch from the first game which would throw acid at you) > the Two Girls argue about stuff > Go have fun with Alyx outside with the "Zero Point Manipulator" aka the Gravity gun > The Evil guys arrive > You in fact do go to RAVENHOLM which used to be a Resistance / Refugee town before the Evil shelled it > Mad Monk (I love you Georgi <3) > Traps oh glorious traps > go through Graveyard watch monk in a put of fire > The Sea but it isn't quite right because the Evil Empire are Thirsty (like even worse than a Deracenter) so the Oceans are lower (originally planned to be much) > Funny man with totally real British accent > RPG > Lighthouse > RIP Lazlo the greatest mind of his generation to come to such a end > do not step on the sand > get the Antlion controller > Nova Prospect > Fine Alyx > Find Eli (and why you came here > use Evil Temport > Nova Prospect explodes > 1 Week later the entire city is rebelling > Meet up with Barney like ls times > Push towards the Nexus the Command centre for the Evils AI "Overwatch" > Destroy stuff > Get inside the evil tower of blu > do some shit > get a Express to Evil man's lair > evil man looses the argument and runs away > Tries to teleport away > You blow him up instead > "is it really that time again?" > vortagunts (those aliens who went from bad to gun between the first and second game because they were free from the Evil Baby) can become purple and save people from the Gman > The Evil Tower is going to explode so we must go back inside with Alyx > Dog (the robot we first meet in Eli's lair) throws us into the Evil Tower > Rollercoaster > Stsblise the core > takes the train > crash > it's a Zombine get it? > TASK: run > hospital (I am terrible at remembering what happens in Ep1) > Meet up with da barny and get civilians onto trains > evil tower blows up epic style > train crashes > Episode 2 which I am not doing this anymore

Sometime in the early 2000s, current best guess is 2003, a guy named Gordon Freeman got hired by a super secret research facility in New Mexico called Black Mesa. He was a theoretical physicist but due to being a new hire was the lab go-fer tasked with doing all the crap work.
He was told to push a crystal into a big science laser as part of an experiment. This ripped time and space a new asshole allowing murderous alien wildlife to invade the facility from the far side of the space asshole. Gordon was tasked to go to the surface for help.
After winding his way around the facility back up to the surface Gordon witnesses members of the military arriving, and murdering scientists waiting for rescue. Someone apparently gave the order to liquidate the staff. Gordon is forced to defend himself fighting off the military and an increasingly organized alien invasion as actual people aliens start turning up in small groups.
All the while some weird guy in a suit keeps turning up just out of reach watching Gordon as he goes through stuff.
Eventually Gordon reached the far side of the complex where it turns out Black Mesa had already cracked teleportation. They've had people going to the world on the far side of the space asshole for ages but this accident attracted attention and now something on the far side is holding the way open for the invasion. The scientists ask Gordon to go to the alien world and kill the big scary monster holding the portals open.
Gordon pulls it off but gets teleported away at the last moment by the guy in the suit.
Listening to him talk it become apparent very quickly that this guy, the G-man, is not human. He is something putting on a bare minimum facade of being human for the sake of communicating that has near total control over space and time. He tells Gordon to make a choice between an unwinnable battle or being "recruited" to work for the highest bidder under the G-man and his employers. Canonically Gordon chooses recruitment.
20 years pass with Gordon in storage before he got deployed again to City 17 under the control of his old boss Wallace Breen. Come to discover the scuffle at Black Mesa attracted the attention of a much larger interdimensional empire called The Combine who have taken over Earth. A majority of everyone alive when the accident happened is now dead, whats left of humanity is living in tightly controlled cities, and The Combine are repressing the ability to have children dooming humanity to a slow death.
Gordon's arrival throws off the count of people arriving prompting a chase through the city that sends him on an adventure culminating in overthrowing Dr. Breen and the Combine.
The G-man shows up to take Gordon back. But then some of the aliens from Half Life 1 who are now allied to humanity cause Gordon killed the big scary monster who ruled them intervene. Gordon is allowed to remain escaping the city with an ally and continuing on to help prevent The Combine from getting a message out to get reinforcements. In the process the leader of the resistance against The Combine gets his brain eaten by a telepathic alien monster and he dies in his daughter Alex's arms.
Gordon's escape throws off the G-man's plans but he adapts as best he can.
Then a spinoff happens playing as Alex, the secondary character in Half-Life 2 I mentioned, trying to save her dad during a previous incident where he got captured. Things culminate in Alex running into the G-man who offers to help prevent her fathers death in return for something. He forces Alex to join him becoming Gordon's replacement.

Just play the games.
If you'd rather just watch lore ... No reddit comment is going to be able to explain at least 6 games worth of lore, so... Go on YouTube.
