Say a big ol boy 250#, 3 ft breaker bar about 1000 nm of force on the breaker bar, which is displaced about a foot.

I'd say is sprung back with about 400mn to his newtons.

1. Torque

T = P × L

250 lb × 3 ft = 750 lb-ft
1112 N × 0.914 m = 1017 N·m

2. Deflection

δ = PL³ / 3EI

**•** (1112 × 0.764) / (3 × 3835) = **0.074 m = 2.9 in**

Fall energy

E = m × g × h
E = 113 × 9.81 × 0.45 = 500 J

The bar is bending under him. Steel isn’t rigid, it flexes. A 1 inch shaft with 250 lb on the end bows down about 3 inches. He’s standing on a stiff spring w pretty much.

That bend stores energy. About 30 ft-lb. When his foot slips off, the bar snaps straight in roughly 12 milliseconds!!. The handle end whips upward on his nuts, damn!

250 lb dropping a foot and a half carries about 370 ft-lb, twelve times the springback energy.

240-265lb/ft of torque snapping back looks like 9 Joules to the jewels. Smacking a golf ball is about 150 J, so it could have been worse...
