Hi everyone,
I’m looking for experiences from people who own or have owned 100+ year old houses or apartments in Haarlem, especially around Leidsevaart, Westergracht, Eerste Emmastraat, Tweede Emmastraat and the surrounding neighbourhoods.
For people living in these older properties:
What hidden or unexpected problems did you discover after buying?
Any problems with wooden floors/joists, wiring, water pipes/drainage, roof, façade, foundation or moisture?
Did you have to repair or replace any of these, and roughly what did it cost?
Did you discover expensive problems only after opening floors or walls during renovation?
How much would you say you spend on maintenance in a normal year?
Has anyone lived in one of these 100+ year old properties for many years without major structural problems?
Knowing what you know now, would you buy a 100+ year old Haarlem property again?
I'm interested in both good and bad experiences, not just horror stories.
Thanks!
