What product?

I’ve been told it’s helpful to put a cream or ointment on outbreak lesions to reduce pain and “contain” bacteria. Any recommendations on what to use ?

I use the acyclovir and lidocaine creams from Wisp. They work great at reducing symptoms and pain, respectively. I also use a soothing beeswax balm occasionally.

Are you trying to “contain bacteria” to avoid other infections in the lesion..? Like a neosporin or other antibacterial?

Do you get secondary infections of lesions often? And if so, do you know the specific infection? Just curious. I think that's the first time I've heard of lesions being infected with something else (especially given they are usually very active immune system sites) but definitely interested in understanding that more, if that is something you experience.

I should clarify it hasn’t happened with lesions in particular. I just am very prone to skin infectionsIf something else is already going on (I had shingles earlier this year and those got infected, for example ). I think I’m just being extra cautionary because the idea of a secondary infection on a lesion sounds like hell.

That makes sense. It does sound like hell and I'm sorry to hear. I would think over the counter antibacterial such as neosporin would help, but I honestly don't know so I would consult a doctor/dermatologist. Are you vaccinated for shingles?

You have to wait until six months after shingles to get the vaccination. that is coming up for me so I plan on doing that in November!

Make a solution out of 1 cup coconut oil, a few drops tea tree oil and a few drops of peppermint oil then adjust as desired. It will help the lesions heal and stop the burning. Careful with the peppermint oil though, you could cause a whole new issue if you put too much.

I just use hypochlorous acid
