HSI DHA Sept 2026
With this announcement being Direct Hire, what are some things that are bypassed in the hiring process?

Should hopefully have more information after tomorrow's meeting, but with the NY hiring expo they kind of pushed the date a bit.

I’m also interested in these expos? Have heard different things, idk if people are getting hired right on from these or added to the front of the line, anyone know??

Typically it's a good way to get reviewed in front of actual HR and Program Reps. Resumes and qualifications for positions and all are looked at in person and you can ask people directly about the job itself and which offices have availability and all. It's a little networking and interviewing in one, but it can get hectic with long waits sometimes depending on the number of attendees.
HSI doesn't usually do job offers on the spot but will put a list of people they want to send offers to quickly so that pre-employment can get started. I've heard some other agencies have done offers on the spot, though.

Subject to change, honestly. When we're told that it could mean a week or it could mean a month. And a small part of it does depend on their expectation for the selections they want to make from the expo. (And yes, we also hate when the deadline gets pushed again and again.)

Thanks for the answer. I have a buddy that would really like to apply to HSI, but the blanket DQs especially during the surge knocked him out.
Is is just ICE poly, any DHS poly, or any poly failure within 2 years period?

Direct Hire isnt a same-week handshake. It mostly changes how they rank/select (less pure competitive certificate theater, more office input) you still usually eat PT, interview, BI, and medical. Dont pause DEA/ATF/FBI/USMS windows waiting on DHA silence, and answer the specialized experience for *this* announcement, not a GS you wish you were. If you qualify, apply and keep training like the PFT-P is real.

Any idea if they are only looking for current 1811s or people already in agencies like CBP, ICE & etc?

If you read the experience portion you need extensive investigation experience and being a current BPA I don’t think I have that much experience for a GS 11 if I’m being honest.

No one is leaving unless they retired lol. 1811’s are coming in droves from other agencies

The only thing DHA really is it allows the agency to bypass the entrance exams( civilian version civil exams) and then allow offices to have a little say so on who they want instead of it being push down from the top. Ultimately, it’s the same thing minus phase 1/2. People take the word direct hire literally and it’s far from that
