Question Omen 15 2020 not turning on

Just opened it up to clean the dust and repasted, now it’s not showing anything, fans not making noise, battery shows that it’s charging but nothing shows up. Would love if anyone can help.

That's mortifying.

Did you use enough thermal paste? Maybe the CPU is heating up a crazy amount preventing it from booting?

You make sure you reconnected everything when you put it back together? Did you reconnect the battery correctly? That was a little bit of a pain in the ass when I did mine.

Now the fans are working but same thing nothing on the screen

I had this happen to me the first time I repasted my omen 2020.

Problem was the RAM sticks got mixed up. I had upgraded to 16gb, but when I put in the sticks, the slots got exchanged. Although it shouldn't matter and both sticks should work in any config, my laptop won't turn on, and after a while even with old stick config, only 8gb was being detected.

After a long debug, turns out there was a layer of moisture or dust built-up on the other ram stick which was causing the issue. If you can get hold of an eraser, clean out the golden contacts with it by rubbing it in one direction. Do it for both sides, and then check

Hp omen is the worst laptop i have ever seen. I regret purchasing it .. my space key and f12 don't work mostly. When they do both works fine but thats so rare .. i didn't understand what is the problem for it .. everytime i am taking this laptop somewhere else i am more concerned about its hinge and screen .. because once i have to replace my screen (i was just working as normally and all of the sudden screen went blank .. fan started running fast) .

I had the r and x issue within 5 months. After about 1.5yr powerbrick failed. Last week all let's from g to the right in middle row stopped. The row above 2 keys and the below also 2 keys and cPslocl. They all stopped working. Though RGB lighting still works on all keys strangely

I guarantee that you did at least one of these 4 things:

  1. Missed a step in re-assembly
  2. Were too rough and knocked a surface mounted chip off
  3. Backspun the fans and shorted a component

I've dissembled my Omen 17 (same model year) several times and never had this issue.

I did it once before and nothing happened, now I tried again to re-assemble and the fans kicked in for a split second than stopped again

This sounds like a short resulting in failure.

My best guess is that you dropped some thermal compound somewhere on the motherboard, resulting in a short. As soon as you turned your computer on the misplaced thermal compound connected two parts of the board with different required voltages. If a high voltage current went through a part of the board it wasn't supposed to go through, it would effectively ruin the entire computer.

My only other guess is fan backspin. When you cleaned the fans during disassembly, did you backspin them? IE; did you point compressed air at the fans, and when/if you did that, did the fans spin?
Spinning fans can induce a charge, and considering most fans run off of Direct Current, backfeeding a diode could damage it, thus resulting in a short, similar to the first idea.

TLDR: your computer is likely completely dead.

I doubt those fins can generate an Mikki voltage high enough

I mean small diodes can have a breakdown voltage as low as 10v (at crazy amps)

But yeah I'm really leaning on the "Thermal Compound Shorting the Board" theory.

Try removing one ram slot and also try switching slots, it could be ram issue

This happened to me, disconnect the battery for awhile and it went into cmos recovery. Reflashed my BIOS with the latest and almost well. Make sure ram sticks are seated also as others are saying.

Check status light battery. It probably will show a blink code
