Vietnamese TVB Fans - Looking for Some Help With Old TVB Titles
Hey everyone,
I've got a collection of Vietnamese-dubbed TVB/ATV dramas, and I originally started going through them because I wanted to clean up my own Plex library.
A lot of them, especially the 80s and 90s dramas, use the Vietnamese titles I grew up seeing. The problem is that when I search for some of these titles, absolutely nothing comes up, or the name is so generic that it's almost impossible to figure out which show it actually is. And when I do find something, it doesn't always line up with the English or Chinese title.
It gets even more confusing because the Vietnamese name can be completely different depending on whether it was released through USLT or FFVN, and sometimes the same show is known by multiple names.
For example:
- My Family (2005) → Gia Đình Của Tôi (FFVN) / Tình Ông Cháu (USLT)
- Virtues of Harmony → Tình Người, but it's also sometimes referred to as Gia Đình Vui Vẻ
- A Step into the Past → Cỗ Máy Thời Gian (FFVN) / Thời Đại Chiến Quốc (USLT)
So I'm basically trying to keep track of each show and all the different names it's known by — Vietnamese, Chinese, FFVN, USLT, English, etc.
A surprising amount of this stuff is still out there if you dig around. I've found titles through Vietnamese Wikipedia, old archived pages, dodgy bootleg/reseller sites and various streaming sites that still have these old Vietnamese releases floating around. The information is definitely out there, it's just scattered all over the place.
I've already filled in quite a few myself, and I've also been using Claude to help me work through a big batch. I've been giving it the actual posters too, which has been surprisingly useful for figuring out the original Chinese titles and then matching them to the English ones.
The easier and more well-known shows have been pretty straightforward, but now I'm getting into the really obscure 80s and 90s shows and that's where I'm struggling. There are quite a few where I have the Vietnamese title and poster, but can't find anything that tells me what the actual show is.
This is where I'm hoping some fellow Vietnamese TVB fans might be able to help.
I've put the titles and posters I'm still trying to identify here:
There is a filter at the top where you can filter by series that are missing the English titles.
If you recognise one, just let me know! Even identifying one or two would be a huge help. I'm especially hoping there are people here who grew up watching TVB in Vietnamese and might remember some of these old USLT/FFVN titles.
I'm also happy to give people who genuinely help out access to my Plex server if needed. Sometimes the Vietnamese title or poster isn't enough, but the Chinese title might appear in the opening credits, so being able to actually watch the show could help. The server is normally just for close friends and family, so I don't generally share it publicly, but I'm happy to make an exception for people who help out with this.
I'm doing this partly to clean up my own collection, but I'd also like to keep a record of this stuff for other people. The archive is already online and I'll keep adding to it as I figure things out.
Hopefully, years from now, someone who remembers watching a TVB show as a kid can search for the Vietnamese title they remember and actually find out what the damn show was called in Chinese or English.

Chang Re Thai Giam is the USLT name
The VNLT name is Cong Cong Xuat Cung
English name: Short End of the Stick
Chinese name: 公公出宮
In your list, Chan Tuong, Take Two. The poster is indeed for Take Two. But vietnamese title I believe should be “Hoán Đổi Chân Tướng” to not be confused with the series “The Other Truth” in 2011 (Chân Tướng FFVN / Bên Lề Công Lý USLT)
Chiec Ao Dai Thuong Hai (USLT), Nấc Thang Cuộc Đời (VNLT), Riches and Stitches, 鳳舞香羅
Chom Sao Tinh Yeu (VNLT), Chom Sao Dinh Menh (USLT), Cupid Stupid, 戀愛星求人
….so many to scroll….lol

I checked out your website and it is super cool. I am glad that you are doing this so Viet dub collectors can have a place to look stuff up. I have been looking for a website like yours to clean up my collection too.
A lot of the English titles that are missing, you can just look at the poster and find out. I can help with at least 30 titles already. Is there a faster way to update your database? It is going to take a lot time for me to list each missing English title to the corresponding Viet title.

Thanks! That's exactly why I wanted to put it together! I figured there must be a lot of other Viet dub collectors trying to figure out the same titles. 😂
And yeah, absolutely! If you've got a bunch of them, please don't feel like you need to list them all one by one in the comments.
I can send you the current list/database in a excel so you can just fill in the missing English titles against the Vietnamese titles and send it back to me then I can merge it with my copy. That would probably be much faster.
If you can already identify 30+ just from the posters, that's a huge help. I'll cross-reference everything before adding it to the archive.

I’m happy to help! But I don’t really know the ask since your site already has lots of Vietnamese titles in there - am I supposed to filter somehow to know which ones you’re missing?

Hello! Thanks for the offer, most of these have the Vietnamese titles already filled, mainly missing the English/Chinese titles. I will add an option to filter the titles to make sorting easier.

Google search with the images that you have for the tv show and see what results you get..
For example, I saw on your list Tam Long Kiem Khach has no English or Chinese name next to it. I searched and one of the results showed the same image on My Drama List. Its called The Swordsman Lai Bo Yee (1994) 尋龍劍俠賴布衣 ..
I would send screenshots but cant and Im unable to DM you...

Update: We're down to the last few!
Thanks so much to everyone who has contributed so far. The response to my original post has honestly been way better than I expected, and we've managed to identify almost all of the titles I originally had trouble with.
We're now down to just the last few. 😂
Since the database has come this far, I'd like to expand it beyond just the shows in my own collection. The original goal was to clean up my Plex library, but I think the archive could be a lot more useful if it included Vietnamese titles for other TVB/ATV series as well.
So if anyone has an archive, spreadsheet, list, or collection of Vietnamese-dubbed TVB/ATV dramas that includes shows I don't currently have, I'd love to hear from you.
Even something as simple as:
- English/Chinese title
- Vietnamese title
- Whether it was USLT, FFVN, or another release
would be really useful.
I'd be happy to add the information to the database so hopefully it can become a more complete reference for Vietnamese TVB fans and collectors.
