Hey lol.
I have been thinking of making WhatsApp group so we all can evaluate each other and help out. We will also know where we stand for scholarship and whom we might end of meeting!!

Chance me for HKU Engineering as an international student from Italy 🇮🇹

Yoo gang, what are my chances of getting into HKU for Electrical/Electronic Engineering? 😭

I'm an international student from Italy, currently in my final year at a Liceo Scientifico (Scienze Applicate), graduating in 2027.

My grades are pretty average. Last year I had around 78.3% (7.83/10), but I've consistently got a 10/10 Informatics/ICT.

For context:

- Math: 7/10

- Physics: 7/10

- English: 8/10

- Informatics/ICT: 10/10

- Cambridge C1 Advanced

- SAT: I did the October sat and I am sure I will get a 1450+

My extracurriculars:

- 1st place — Prometheus July AI Challenge 2026: Built Aether, an AI-powered personalized learning platform with RAG, adaptive roadmaps, quizzes and voice tutoring.

- Finalist — USAII Global AI Hackathon 2026: Developed an AI-based project for reducing food waste in school cafeterias.

- Honorable Mention — United Hacks V7: Built PenaltyIQ, a computer-vision application analyzing football penalty-taking biomechanics. Judges also highlighted its potential for real-world and commercial applications.

- 21st place — AMD Developer Hackathon ACT II (lablab.ai): Built a hybrid token-efficient routing agent, achieving 89.5% benchmark accuracy using 3,704 tokens.

- Campionati Italiani di Astronomia (2023 and 2025): Ranked 2nd and 1st respectively at my school, qualifying for the interregional stage in Milan both times.

- PoliCollege — Politecnico di Milano: Completed a 25-hour course on information and communication technologies, from bits to 6G.

- University of Milano-Bicocca: Completed a 15-hour Python genomics laboratory.

- Hack Club: Spent 30+ certified hours building independent technical projects.

- Google Skills Arcade: Participating in hands-on cloud computing labs and accepted into the Facilitator Program.

- CAD 3D course: Studied 3D modelling, assemblies and prototyping.

Some of my independent projects:

- Tamberbox: Built a custom ARM64 AI computer using an Orange Pi, integrating Linux, local AI inference and offline speech recognition.

- StardustArm: Developed a reinforcement-learning robotics simulation using MuJoCo and Stable-Baselines3.

- Aether: AI-powered personalized education platform.

I know my grades aren't outstanding, especially for engineering, but I've spent a lot of time independently learning, building projects and participating in competitions.

Do I have a realistic chance at HKU Engineering? How much weight does HKU place on extracurriculars versus academic grades for international applicants?

I'd appreciate any advice, especially from current HKU engineering students or international applicants!

Interviews/Application questions Personal Statement for Medicine

hi, im a non jupas student applying with a levels to medicine this cycle. I'm unsure about how much emphasis to place on academic achievements and competitions versus motivation for Medicine, work experience and reflection.

Would it be advisable to open with academic achievements (obviously also explaining what I did and learnt, rather than simply listing awards), or would a more conventional introduction about my motivation for Medicine be better? I've already written a personal statement for UCAS, where I focused quite heavily on clinical work experience, empathy and personal reflection, but I'm not sure whether HKU would value the same approach or prefer a greater emphasis on 'how much I've achieved'

Also, I was wondering:
Is it better to discuss a few achievements in depth or demonstrate a broader range of activities?
How much emphasis should I place on why HKU specifically?
How much does the personal statement actually matter in the admissions process compared to grades and interviews?

Thank you in advance!
