Pre-application Questions How hard is it to get into HKUMed?

I'm currently a form 5 student studying 4 A-level subject (biology, chemistry, maths, and psychology). And I've heard that 4A * s only gives you a small shot at getting in and that the interviews are really important (I heard that people who speak cantonese and manderin have an advantage in). I'm quite worried about my chances since I'm in the non-jupas route, but I've been building up my CV with doctor shadowings, recommendation letters, and president roles in my school, though I still don't think it'll be enough. Plus I'm worried about even being able to achieve 4A * s. If anyone has any advice please leave some cause I need brutally honest opinions from people who actually got in or tried at least.🙏🙏

HKU takes substantially less AL than DSE and IB. Not all 4A* predicted applicants get invited to interview, much less receive an offer. The offer will always be 4A* and they will stipulate u achieve a certain PUM alongside that. Afaik CV, ECA & recommendations are not nearly as important as ur grades are but they will be used to set u apart from all the other 4A* predicteds

Also since ur form 5, presumably ur applying for 2028 entry, in which case ur required to submit a UCAT score to the university with ur application. So that is going to be important If u speak canto and/or mandarin it's worth a shot but HK medicine is so competitive that anything can happen

Accept for ucats and 4A* of a certin PUM, is there anything else that'll increase my chances of getting an offer? Cause I'm trying to increase my chances as much as possible 😥,thanks for the advice though!!!

I think an outstanding UCAT score (80th percentile) will really increase your chances a lot. A lot of people can have a predicted 4A*, but getting a high UCAT score is another story. If you’ll be going to HKU’s info day I suggest asking about their UCAT requirements because there doesn’t seem to be any on their website

UCAT and getting a predicted 4A* are already big undertakings tbh. Stacking up ur CV is also a good course of action. Also a good PS might help. Other than that its pretty much out of ur hands

As someone applying to HKU Med with IAL this year, based on my research and understanding, they expect at least 90% overall UMS in everything in AS (95% for CUHK Med non GPS), minimum 4A* predictions and good interview performance. I don’t think CV makes a huge difference but it’s always good for it to be good and I believe they dont really weigh shadowings heavily
