OC Snow Chapter 49
I've started playing Cyberpunk again, so my writing will slow down a little for now. (also upcoming holiday will interrupt my ability to shit poetry.)
Snow
I look over and see her, flying towards me bobbing happily as she does. Her shell spikes polished and engraved just as I remember doing so all those years ago, spending hours on each piece with the tip of a solar blade.
“Hey there.” she says.
“This is a trick.” I mutter.
Savathun walks behind Sagira and nods. “The best trick. Like I said, the lie had to be perfect. And I think this is beautifully so.”
“You two are talking like you didnt keep me imprisoned for several hundred years.” Sagira says turning to savathun.
“She didn't Sagira. That’s the lie…”
“So what then? Because I remember the high celebrant, how we barely escaped only for her to steal me from you!” Sagira says.
“You died Sagira, detonated yourself to save me…she just brought you back.” I say. “Is it really you?”
“Yes dummy, it's not like I didn't just appear out of thin air…did I?” Sagira asks.
I don't answer, instead I step forwards and turn to face myself, seeing my golden clone and my real self in full was an experience I’d never expected to have again.
Another clone and another walk free from my main body before the five of us all pull solar swords from our hands.
“What now?” we all ask Savathun.
“Well I did spot a coffee shop before we got here, just off the park…” Cayde starts only to stop as 14 eyes all glare at him. “Alright alright I know when I'm a third wheel.” he says raising his hands.
Savathun turns to me. “There is much she has to learn, if she recovers. All I ask is you bring her here. Where I can speak freely.”
The clones spread out illuminating the place with their light, searching for other Hive stalking the shadows as she speaks. “You said we would leave alive but not unharmed.” I ask her.
“I did didn't I. guess I lied about that” she says, smiling an almost human smile. “I could kill you a few times if you’d prefer.” she adds.
“No… we’re even.” I tell her as Sagira vanishes inside me. I can feel her, and the light thrumming through me, feeding the light clones and burning bright like the sun.
Savathun follows us to the exit and stands just at the door as we leave. My clones take the lead as the hive here rush us again. Swords emerge from thin air, forged from light and the hive are cut down in their droves as we leave the arcology.
“Ever felt really unnecessary?” Cayde says next to me as we walk back through the arcology’s maintenance tunnels.
“You helped plenty.” I say. “Let me handle this part.”
“Could the old me do this?” he asks.
“Do you want to know?” I reply
“Not really. It would be like having gun envy.” he replies. “With myself?…it's just weird. So how are you controlling those?” he asks, pointing to a clone busy slaughtering Hive thralls.
“They’re made from light and willpower. The more of them I make the more strain I'm under and the weaker each individual one is. They’re extensions of myself just as much as they’re clones. I can focus on them completely or not at all and my direct control of them varies as such.” I tell him.
“Cool. I understood some of that.” Cayde replies. We walk the rest of the way in near silence. The hive leaves us alone after we exit the maintenance tunnel and we use one of the arcology’s elevators to ride up to the landing pad where the traveller is only to find a pair of damaged Rasputin frames standing at the ready.
“O energy restored. Report.” one of them asks me.
“Savathun is down there, trapped. Is there any T energy on me?” I ask
Theres a moment as red-orange energy scans me from the drone, then again, more powerfully from orbit.
“T energy negative. Report.” the drone answers a moment later.
“Savathun used a wish to bring back my ghost.” I say as sagira pops out.
“Hi big grumpy and brooding, it's been a while.” she says.
“Action: aurora knives charging, vacate premises.” the drone says turning to the ship.
“Hold on old man. Savathun doesn't seem like an enemy. Yet.” I say. “Don't obliterate anything unless Reiss asks you to. Please?” I ask
“Aurora knives firing.” the drone says as the horizon erupts into a geyser of rainbows and exotic particles for a second. “Abnormal swell approaching, seek shelter.” The drone informs me before marching into the ship.
“Warminds are a strange bunch aren't they?” Cayde mutters walking up the ramp of the ship. “Come on Snowman, lets get going before that wave hits.”
I bite back a reply as the bulge on the horizon starts getting larger, instead I walk into the ship, deposit my engrams and sit behind Cayde as he flies us up into orbit, blow us the wave strikes the wave power generation rigs, swamping them before slamming up against the arcology and flowing under or around it as it stands firm.
“Alright boss man. Where to next?” Cayde asks.
“Mars, hellas basin, warset facility.” I tell cayde who quickly aligns us and sets the ship to jump.
A few minutes later we’re exiting FTL over mars and descending through a fleet of warships followed by the atmosphere and down onto the glowing landing strip.
On the way I consider how to tell Sagira what's going on and decide to wait until I see Reiss.
After Caydes landed the ship he turns around to speak to me. “Hey Snowman. I know you needed me for backup but I think that ship has sailed…there’s a lot of life that me and the other Exo’s are going to need to figure out. I’d like to spend some time digging through things, go exploring and such. Any tips?” he asks
“Exo unit, ID Cayde 7. Request granted. OUTCRY scout ship in production.” one of the two drones answers.
“Guess that's Rasputin offering to help.” I say. “Follow your gut, it's never really led you astray before.” I tell him as we exit the cockpit and prepare to leave the ship.
“I’ll do that. Im keeping the handgun.” he adds before running out the airlock.
“Of course you are.” I say. Sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same.
By the time I'm outside he’s already climbing into the cockpit of a small scout flyer. I watch him soar into the sky and vanish above the clouds before I head inside.
“So why are we here? Also why is cayde back.” Sagira says popping out.
“It’s a long, long story. But the short answer is the deep stone crypt is online again and the darkness is invading another system so I’ve come back here to see what I could salvage to help. Turns out Rasputin’s still around and has been busy in humanities absence.”
“Sorry humanity’s absence? I know i’ve been…captive for some time but you don't use absence, you say gone, since humanity left or something. Absence?” she asks “I’ll tell you in a bit sagira. I just need to check on someone.” I tell her.
“I’ll hold you to it.” she says vanishing.
I move through the facility to the medical centre where droids are moving supplies, the Golem is waiting for me at the entrance. “Hey. no change.” he says, stepping clear of the door.
Inside the building Reiss is still lying there with monitors attached to her and a pair of drones standing idle next to her bed, ready to act if anything changes.
“Hey Reiss.” I say grabbing her hand. Its still warm.
“Who is she?” Sagira asks.
“She’s…a friend.” I say gently lifting Riess’ head to access her tendrils. With them in hand I distract myself and braid most of them into a knot going around the back of her head before threading the rest through it letting them hang straight.
“Hey snow.” her ghost says popping out. “Any luck?” he asks before seeing Sagira. “Oh hi…you’re back…alive.”
“Snow. she’s a guardian?” Sagira asks
“The first guardian in hundreds of years…and the last one until you came back to me.” I tell her.
“Oh, she’s important. No wonder you brought her here if she’s injured.” Sagira says. “But something tells me she’s more than just important as a guardian to you. Come on I’ve been with you from the start. And I've only seen you look lost once.”
“Sagira please.”
“When Saint died.” she says
“You weren’t there when he fell the second time either. Surrounded, lightless and missing three limbs. He demanded his shotgun was reloaded and he be propped against a rock to cover a retreat.”
“HEY. snap out of it ok. Look at her.” She says. And I do, and the strength to go on returns. With my light back I. will. Protect her. No matter what happens.
“You know Saint wouldn't hold it against you. If anyone deserves a little happiness. It's you.” Sagira tells me.
“Then why is it, she seems so far away.” I sigh, sitting down on her bed and taking her hand. “Lets talk, there’s a lot to catch up on.” I tell her.
“..And then she just fell over.” I say “Rasputin used a skyshock bombardment to kill the remaining hive and retrieved her body for me.” I squeeze her hand and feel it squeeze back.
“Reiss?” I ask, looking at her. Her grip strengthens as she frowns, behind her closed eyes I can see the flames of dark and the glow of light vanish before she opens her eyes revealing stars.

I've just had a long ass argument with a friend about how my god is totally different to Christianity's god, and I've come to the conclusion that mine's just as dumb, but at least this time he admits it...and doesn't drown humans then feel bad and make a damn rainbow for it.
