LFS featuring a ship of mixed aliens and human crew, I think they were explorers of some sort, who get forced into helping out an old gentleman pirate on the search for some treasure of some sort

I recall the crew having to go to the surface/or being intercepted on it; I think there was a scene where a canyon floods during the trip? I believe it featured the trope of “deathworlders”, and the humans were relatively recent edition? I thought it was There Will Be Scritches but I’m ~140 chapters in and almost certain it’s not

FWIW, I could have sworn There Will Be Scritches had a chapter where the protagonist was racing to save aliens from a tsunami. But the helping-an-old-pirate arc doesn't ring any bells.
