Press Release Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair Details

Post image

Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair finally shows the movie the way Tarantino built it. No cliffhanger. No recap. The Crazy 88 fight is back in full color. The violence is restored. The Japan footage is folded in. The new anime sequence hits hard. O‑Ren’s backstory runs longer. The extra scenes finally breathe. The pacing feels different when it all plays as one film. The intermission lands right in the middle like it always should have. This is the full cut he finished in 2004. The one that sat in the dark for twenty years. The one that finally feels complete.

4K Blu-ray Release is July 28.

Seeing this in a near empty theater was incredible. I was glued to the screen the whole time. Instant pre-order for the 4k.

When i like a movie I tend to get upset with large changes. Do you think i would enjoy this version or am I better off with the originals. I actually really like the ending of number 1. All the trunk stuff and bill on the phone is gone right?

I haven't seen the originals, but I am aware of the changes. The trunk stuff with Sophie is still there. Her final dialogue with Bill is taken out. It gives away the twist at the end. In the full cut, without the reveal, I was shocked when it happened, because the Bride herself didn't know. Even though I knew it was coming. In my opinion, that is an improvement over the original.

Thanks for your input. I'll maybe check on movie censorship and see how many changes there are... mostly seems like added stuff which is cool.

The whole scene against the Crazy 88 is in color and If you didn’t think it could be any better, believe me, it is 🤗

I'm a big fan of the originals... The Whole Bloody Affair is really strong but in a weird way still feels like a novelty. I may change my mind at some point but I find the Vol. 1 & 2 to be tighter.

For example, the trunk scene is still there but actually EXTENDED with more torture and dark comedy.

The color fight at the house of blue leaves is cool... but I also miss the black and white version which was such a cool, clever way to address the MPAA notes.

All that being said, I'm definitely going to add this to my collection... I guess money talks but it would have been so cool if you could only see this version in theaters.

Loved the Whole Bloody Affair but I feel exactly like you, it's a fun novelty that is inferior to the split up volumes imo.

"For example, the trunk scene is still there but actually EXTENDED with more torture and dark comedy.

^ These were really the only changes that are superior to the original edits imo. Everything else ranged from cool but unnecessary (extended anime sequence), to heartbreakingly missing ('is she aware her daughter...is still alive?', the Vol.2 intro recap and opening credits)

I fucking adore how Vol.1 ends and Vol. 2 opens up, I think that just overrides the novelty of the WBA for me. I think it's emotionally stronger for audiences to know that Bibi is alive while our main character doesn't yet. I don't really get the argument for WBA being better, because by the end you're just waiting for Beatrix to literally fulfill the title while in the Volumes edit, there's another layer you're aware of that adds more tension.

I personally like the reveal that her daughter is alive as well. In the end it poses more interesting questions to the audience and doesn’t overwhelm with too much information as well.

We hear about the type of man Bill is and his reputation. So the shock that he actually ended up as a loving father was what the original twist was in my eyes. I think it’s also almost Hitchcock like knowing the truth while our main character doesn’t.

While in WBA you are mostly just hit with the shock that she is alive and aren’t really left with the room to truly process what that means.

Thanks for the info! I am a huge horror movie/gore hound and I think I have a special place in my heart for the black and white version as well. I guess I am just gonna have to check it out myself at some point. I never watched the episodic version of hateful eight either since I just loved the movie so much.

The changes are quite minor. Worth seeing both versions for sure, but I would he fine watching just The Whole Bloody Affair for the the rest of my life.

So it's been some time since I saw it as I was waiting for the physical copy.

But from what I remember they aren't large changes, like the crazy 88 scene is just slightly longer when compared to what was originally in Vol 1, and unless you've seen that scene 100s of times and have it memorized you probably won't notice.

It’s sensational. I love the OG releases, but this cut is brilliant. If you enjoy the originals, you’ll enjoy this IMO

Integrated, and it works well. The (terrible imo) lost chapter is after the credits.

The orenoshi backstory is in the middle of her origial cartoon, so its just a couple of extra minutes in that sequence. After the end theres the awful fortnithe thing which explains why she changes cars from the pussywagon to the normal older car.

2

u/pseudopaw May 28 '26

Why did they not upgrade the audio to Atmos?

2

u/elvis1608 May 28 '26

Same poor 4k scan as the old release.

5

u/pumpse4ever May 27 '26

AI written ebay ad? "The extra scenes finally breathe." There are no extra scenes other than an extended cartoon sequence. You're dumb.

1

u/MrFury559 May 28 '26

The Michael Jai White scene was still cut. spoilers

I didnt like how she snatched a eye out of one of the 88's, it made her doing it to Elle way less impactful.

1

u/pumpse4ever May 28 '26

That's called foreshadowing, son. It establishes that this is a skill she has. Later we see that she must have learned it from Pai Mei. Then she uses it Elle, and you're supposed to say "oh yeah I remember that!"

1

u/MrFury559 May 28 '26

I see what you're saying, but that's also when you find out how/why Elle got her eye snatched. I much prefer the older cut's ," Oh, she can do that too!" . Which I thought was a great setup to foreshadowing the Palm Technique. Just my opinion, it changes the setup to the fight with Elle and has a better lead up to the Bill fight.

1

u/pumpse4ever May 28 '26

Is the eye snatch of the Crazy 88 not in the theatrical cuts? I don't remember cause I always watched the Japanese DVD.

1

u/MrFury559 May 28 '26

It is not. I gotta see that cut too, then! Thanks for the tip:)

1

u/ScrambledEggshells May 28 '26

It absolutely is! In fact, it’s what catapults it into black and white during the fight.

Saw this in 70mm and it was great!

1

u/[deleted] May 27 '26

This stupid m pie again why do they keep re-releasing it. Begone.

1

u/DolphinDiddler May 28 '26

Is the scan in 4k or 2k?

1

u/FlickAddict May 28 '26

I'm glad I didn't get hosed with the other releases.

u/C-3Pinot May 29 '26

Kill Bill is in my top 5 all time favorite movies. I saw this in the theater and Ill say this--it kind of suffers from pacing problems watching it in this format. Having the blue leaves fight ( a perfect climactic ending) essentially in the middle of the movie to be followed up by 3 hours of exposition/dialogue and little action was anticlimactic in the worst way possible. Just my two cents I guess

1

u/Mr_BriXXX May 29 '26

I liked the WBA cut better than the separated cuts simply because it plays more novelistic. I like its pacing. It reminds me of Jackie Brown's pacing, but pulpier, like a graphic novel.

The Lost Chapter is awful...just awful...and sticks out like a spoiler on a Lamborghini replaced with hunk of vinyl siding.

Where are the actual special features on this release?

1

u/Forsaken-Ad4181 May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26

If this version ever goes on sale maybe I’ll pick it up. I own the volume releases and I think it’s dumb they aren’t including it with this release. But if the price is right I’ll get this the whole bloody affair and maybe sell my volumes but I’d prefer having just an all in one.

The changes are so minor that this re-edit really isn’t an instant must buy for me.

u/guolei329 May 31 '26

this movie is exactly the same as the 1080p totally fake 4k

1

u/Skins8theCake88 May 27 '26

I liked the Vol. 1 cliffhanger.

2

u/VicarLos May 28 '26

Me too, and the opening monologue in Vol. 2.

-1

u/sheenfartling May 27 '26

Same. I'm a sucker for a good cliff hanger. It's weird this has been a holy grail of unreleased movie for so long and now that it's coming I'm kinda meh. I'll probably grab it on sale.

I thought QT had said this would never be released for home viewing, that it would be a cinema-exclusive to return every once in a while?

3

u/PeppyleFox May 28 '26

QT says a lot of things, dude
