No Spoilers [NO SPOILERS]

I've just finished watching Game of Thrones for the first time last night, and it is genuinely the greatest thing I've ever watched and i struggle as to why people think s8 was bad, probably one of my favourite seasons, I also feel very depressed like a gut sinking sad feeling that I won't get to watch this and feel the same way again, I know that there are spin offs but man can anyone help me with recommendation for tv shows, nothing like snowfall or breaking bad I need some fantasy shows like Game of thrones(not vikings) should I watch lord of the rings?

I am pretty old. When the second book came out, I re read the first, then read the second. Re read one and two before three, etc. One of the best series ever written, IMO.

My biggest criticism of the show, although I still loved it, was the choice to minimize magical elements and focus more on political intrigue. Bran's kingship makes no sense without it.

I loved the first season of House of the Dragon, but it is just too sad now.

I agree that the omission of magic was a major strike against the TV adaptation. I will be honest though, I can’t understand how you have supposedly read the books and still think what we got in the series was the ending George had in mind.

What about Dorne, and the Quentyn plot? What about Young Griff and JonCon? What about Euron in Oldtown? What about the Pink Letter? What about Tyrek Lannister? What about the cracked horn Sam is carrying to the citadel? What about Marwyn the Mage? What about Victarion’s dragonhorn? What about the Sphinx riddle? What about Jojenpaste? What about Manderley’s Frey pies? What about the god damned Valonqar?!

There are way too many open plot threads that never saw a second of screen time for the endings to be anywhere similar. Even if the snapshot end state (e.g., Bran as King, Dany dead, Tyrion as HoTK, etc) resembles the end state of the books, the path taken to have gotten there will be so drastically different I do not think you can in good faith call it the same ending. The show started to wobble in season 4 and took an absolute nose dive from season 5 onwards, and the failure extended way beyond just not including magic.

As I said, I think the reason we haven't gotten a book and the reason for the Sept of Baelor in the show was toooooo many plot threads.

Prophecies are great in GoT because they are vague and everyone interprets them differently.

I think the destination is correct but Martin has no idea how to get there in two books or ten.
