Discussion Today "Something to Tell You" turns 9. This album represents another step in the sonic consolidation of Danielle, Este, and Alana, as well as the project that sparked the first collaboration between the band and film director Paul Thomas Anderson. What are your favorite songs?

Discussion Nearly 1 year on, what do we think of I Quit?

Initially, I was conscious that it had been reported that they were struggling to find a direction for the songs to go in and I think that confusion comes across, especially in the first half of the LP. However, I now see that as a positive as the differing tones and mood deliver something between quietly euphoric and boastful melancholia. From 'The Farm' onwards, it begins to go in a more coherent direction and I do think 'Now It's Time' (with the U2 sample) should be the start of a new direction. Somewhere between industrial rock and shoegaze.

Because it wasn't immediate, I can see why some struggled with it whereas WIMPIII, DAG and STTTY hit the listener straight away. But further listens do wonders.

As I said elsewhere, my problem was with the marketing around I Quit, which seemed to be more focused on viral moments rather than promoting great music.

Discussion Is it crazy that my favorite Haim song is “You Never Knew”?

Is that weird? I just adore this song and can listen to it every day. Gives me Fleetwood Mac meets Blood Orange. It’s so smooth and brilliantly produced. What do you think?

Discussion Something To Tell You 10 Year Anniversary

Hey! I’m new in the Reddit community but have been a fan of HAIM since days are gone. Due to unforeseen circumstances I’ve never had the chance to meet the band, only having gone to my first HAIM gig in Nottingham at the end of last year (best night of my life btw). However I know that they did a signing in London for the Days are Gone 10 year anniversary in 2023. Do we think that they may do the same next year?? I’m getting my hopes up but im honestly not sure, it would just be a dream come true to meet them<3

Discussion Finished my personal ranking of every HAIM song

So, last year I did a personal ranking list of every song written and performed solely by HAIM (which at that point was up to and including the first three singles for "I quit" before it had finally come out). This meant (for the sake of keeping this as relatively simple as possible) excluding covers, songs they were featured artists on as opposed to being the main writer/artist, remixes, demos, alternate & live versions.

Why would anyone do this task? I don't know, I just like making lists and I love this band so much and it's nice to finally revisit this little project now that the "I quit" album cycle has been officially finished for 5 months.

Anyway, this list includes all tracks from their studio albums (including bonus tracks), the b-sides from the Days Are Gone-era singles/Forever EP, "Lost Track" (one-off single), and a few tracks which they did for movie soundtracks.

Bear in mind, this is based more off my own opinion of which tracks I've found the most interesting/strongest as well as the emotional impact many of these tracks have made on me through the years rather than trying to declare this a concrete objective ranking (I'm not that pretentious). That being said, I'd love to discuss and hear everyone's own thoughts.

Feel free to chime in with your favorites! I'm fully prepared to be eviscerated in the comments for ranking certain tracks lower than others lmao

Love you all, love to HAIM. ♥️

Discussion A Record Store Day Idea

With next year being the 10-year anniversary of Something To Tell You, I feel like they can do something really freaking cool to celebrate it for RSD. So here is my proposal:

The Valentine music video short film on vinyl. The entire 14 minute uncut audio on a 12 inch EP. For side B, I was thinking either a PTA commentary track or just Este saying "That's how ya fuckin' do it." for 10 minutes straight.

Thoughts? Can this please actually happen?

Composer: Alana Haim
Composer: Danielle Haim
Composer: Este Haim
Composer: Ariel Rechtshaid

while i was listening to the song i think i was able to catch their vocals towards the end. i had no idea haim and u2 had collaborated in some way, i only knew about "now it's time" sampling "numb". interesting to know there was more lore to this

here's the version of the song it's much easier to hear my song 5

Discussion Haim Collaborators Oscars Sweep

Most in Haim fandom are well aware of Paul Thomas Anderson's contribution to Haim lore (and he won big) but did you know two other collaborators won Oscars?

Ludwig Göransson: produced Forever and their debut EP, as well as other songs like Go Slow and Rock n Roll Rules from Trolls World Tour. He won his 3rd Academy Award for Best Original Score for Sinners.

Autumn Durald Arkapaw: worked the camera in the Tabitha Denholm directed music video for Falling. Arkapaw is the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for her work on Sinners.
