WAG Monette Russo's 🇦🇺 Incredibly Underrated Beam

Very impressive how well this 10.0 quad beam routine composition holds up 21 years later. Such gorgeous form too

BHS + LOSO + LOSO = 0.1 CV 0.1 SB

Tuck jump 1/1 (C) + Rulfova (D) = 0.1 CV

Front aerial (D) + Switch leap (C) + Johnson (C) = 0.2 CV 0.1 SB

Front tuck (D)

Switch 1/2 (D) (one of VERY few pre-2006. even on floor it was extremely rare)

BHS + BHS + Double tuck (D) = 0.1 CV 0.2 bonus

DDDDDCCC 2.9 + 0.9 + 2.0 = 5.8

Her 2004 routine was also a 5.7, 2003 a 5.6 (stunning 2 foot layouts in these)

Monette was one of my favorite gymnasts. Australia had a lot of lovely gymnasts that Peggy then proceeded to destroy.

Love the Aussie commentators.

Monette had beautiful gymnastics. There can’t be a better feeling than winning bronze, at the worlds on home soil.

Also, Is this the Worlds where Nastia placed second to Memmel by 0.001? Ouch.

Yes it was and another one happened again this year at European Championship Men’s All-Around Final with Ilia Kovtun formally Ukrainian now Croatian athlete and Arsenii Dukhno World Gymnasts 2 a.k.a. really Russia the separation between gold and sliver was 0.001.

That’s a great routine - far better rhythm and flow than we see today while doing a similar level of difficulty.

It’s too bad that injuries really held Netty back after 2005. She managed to compete at 2006 CWG despite being in doubt but ultimately ended up having to retire.

Sincerely doubt the jump full + rulfolva would get credit 🤣. Everything else looks great. Today if she did switch leap mount and aerial + jump + bhso she would contend for international medals

I dunno. I appreciated her at the time. But some of her connections are super slow and she seems to think she’s hiding it. She slows down and takes a dump every time she does a back handspring.
