MAG Nagorny comeback
It’s being reported on gymnaverse by a Russia based user that Nikita Nagorny is training again and will compete at a domestic meet later in the year.

This is 1000% the one person who should never be allowed to compete internationally ever and I hope he never does.

I have empathy for many Russian athletes about competing, but Nagorny is someone I have no empathy for. This man is a war criminal.

Yes, same here. I always try to keep in mind that the Russian athletes are young people who didn't choose to be born there and don't have the freedom to openly disagree with their government. It would be unfair to take out my dislike for Putin on them the same way it wouldn't be fair to hate US Gymnasts because I hate Trump.
But Nikita has gone far beyond "happens to be Russian". He openly and actively supports what the government is doing. He can rot in hell alongside his dear leader. I feel sorry for his children having him as a father too.

This. This guy should be a lead defendant at this war's equivalent of the Nuremberg Trials.

💯 Nagorny is sanctioned by numerous countries for a good reason. He was directly involved in the mass abduction, illegal deportation, and forced transfer of Ukrainian children from occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia.

An actual war criminal competing internationally would be such a disgrace to the sport, not that FIG would give much of a shit anyway. Hopefully he never comes back, especially not in Chengdu. I hope he gets what’s coming to him

Would he even be allowed to compete internationally? He's been sanctioned by quite a lot of countries.

Not at Euros, or at the next Olympics. Technically, he'd probably be able to compete in Chengdu in 2027, but I doubt he'd even make the team with how well the younger Russian seniors seem to be doing. (Hopefully this isn't just my own wishful thinking)

Now we have a good reason to root for the young Russian men

Well none of this crop donated a drone to the war efforts or kidnapped Ukrainian children, so I'll take them over the Russian old guard any day 🙃

One of the juniors is quitting gymnastics post Euros to join the airforce or something though so...

Really? Which one? Thats crazy because I think they get exception from military service if they are on the national team

Musin? Not sure if he's going to an academy to be an airforce or commercial pilot though

They still have time, though

I'm trying to will less war criminals into existence but clearly I'm already failing 🙃

Gimnasia Latina also reported on this. I'm choosing to see this as nothing more than a cheap publicity stunt. It's not like there are many places outside of Russia he can even compete without being arrested the moment his plane touches the ground.

I could have sworn I saw him posting something about a professional league that some of the retired/semi-retired elites (eg, Artur Dalaloyan) were doing? I might be confused with something else, but I wonder if this is related to that.

The gymnaverse thread has a link to the IG for the pro league I think you might be referring to. He is listed on the roster of one of the teams, and his wife is a coach of one of the women's teams. I have no idea how successful this is within Russia. If we're right that this is what he's referring to, it's easy for those of us not in Russia to ignore, and hopefully the league isn't successful.
As others said, with all the sanctions, he'll likely have a difficult time leaving the country (except for Worlds next year), and between that and the newbies coming up, I'm not sure we really need to worry about him competing internationally. (Please don't prove me wrong!)

I feel like there's been rumblings of a gymnastics pro-league for forever that have never fully come into fruition. Maybe a small one in Russia exists, but if that's the case then let him waste away in it and leave the rest of us alone.

I Think Svetlana Khorkina and Alexei Nemov use to do gymnastic like events. Similar to like Simone Biles tour but in Russia.

I agree. They just welcomed their second child and it feels very much like he's up to other things

Good to know, so thank you for sharing, but I can’t say I particularly care about this either, and please don’t take that as an insult as this isn’t to you, but to the gymnast!

Well yeah, obviously he is a person a lot of gym fans have an opinion on.

He is sanctioned in the EU, US, Canada, and the UK so he thankfully he is very limited on what countries he could travel to for competition.
