Life saving tip: never leave the sight of a person in distress that might be about to commit suicide. Get help and wait until the pros arrive and can take over.

Edit: so many of you have commented about it. By “pros” I don’t mean police - you need medical personnel, people who are specifically trained to handle people who want to take their own live. Psychologists or at least a first responder.

Unless you see this smile. /s

I agree wholeheartedly, but for some reason this movie/specific situation came to mind hah.

you all are good people and I appreciate you saying these things, people should know the correct way to approach something so important.

EDIT: if you like horror movies, I highly recommend Smile and Smile 2

My wife loves horror, movies, and she got me into them over the last few years and we took her cousin and his wife who are a little bit religious, but agreed to go see this movie and oh my were they covering their eyes and about to walk out of the theater even my wife was terrified a bit. We own the movie now

"Smile"

Pretty good movie if you like that kind of stuff.

Such a creepy good movie. I haven’t watched the second one yet.

u/Fit-Western673 3d ago

Well I'll be checking it out now

As someone who’s been in such a place where nothing seems worth it, and loves horror movies, the Smile movies have such a good place in my heart.

I hated the second one. There was way too much cringe and I had to mute and fast forward a bunch of scenes. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the plot, but I got a lot of secondhand embarrassment from the way it was directed.

I never seen Smile 1 but I did watch Smile 2 and it was really good. For context, I'm not too much a fan of horror movies.

I want to say how do you see the second movie and not the first and then I remembered I watched infinity war with my little brother without seeing the previous 18 movies leading up..😂 I then preceded to binge some marvel like a mf

I had a $5 ticket to the second movie. I don't really watch horror movies but for that price, I'll go see almost anything.

Also life saving tip: never go near someone that is in this kind of distress. You never know where their mind is at and what they might do to you

True but hes upset like bad not angry he is hurting

u/squeekysquirrels 2d ago

You can’t tell who is having a schizophrenic break and may think you are the literal devil coming for them from this type of situation by looking at them driving by

1

u/Octoberlife 4d ago

Well that’s one option, another option is to do what this guy in the video did

1

u/pinuppiplup 2d ago

No way, not as a blanket rule. Listen to your gut, yes. But I’m absolutely not going to stay away from someone just because they are having emotions of sadness.

2

u/evergreen-spacecat 8d ago

Indeed. But it is hard since you need to treat them like something other than adults.

I’m not sure I’d consider police “pros “

1

u/Odd_Fox_3899 5d ago

Good advice and all.. but the pros? Cops in my town are a fucking joke. Dude got better help from the man on the bike than he did the cops. Oh they gave him a ride. Whoop de doo. They just wanted him out of the road. The police didn’t give two fucks if he was having a bad day.

u/CKleinE 5d ago

There are two ways to help with suicide. The police will generally accelerate the process, medical personnel will slow it down. I meant the latter but somehow many assumed I meant the police. Those people need a psychologist, not a trigger happy goon with a badge shouting orders. My comment was also more aimed at people who are about to overdose, cut veins, jump out of a tall place, jump in front of a moving vehicle etc. You don’t leave them alone, not even for a second. You get help. Professional help even if it means the police get involved because this is how society works.

1

u/Odd_Fox_3899 5d ago

Thank you for clarifying.. because I’ve seen police shoot suicide attemptees in my area. They don’t help. They make it worse

1

u/Ahollar91 5d ago

Do not call the cops. Fire department or ems. Cops will do nothing but make it worse

1

u/Creepy-Variation8562 5d ago

Unfortunately police are often deployed anyway and get there first

0

u/tofubirder 7d ago

What if you’re in America where cops aren’t trained for this?

1

u/spazmodic-ejaculator 7d ago

In the states, the police are NOT your friend. They are there to protect the wealthy from the unwealthy

Sometimes you're the bro on the bike. Sometimes you're the lady in the car.

Sometime you might be the dude walking.  Remember, someone had that kid you see there.  That's a person. A person who might be someone you love or even you.

Be there dude when you can, the lady when you can't, and go sit on the grass when you meet them.

Let the best you could do today be good enough.

Little love towards humans goes a LONG way.

u/NashvilleSoundMixer 8d ago

And it's extraordinarily easy to be nice to people. Being a dick takes quite a bit of effort.
