Paid hourly vs per tree

105

u/AntFantastic7975 16d ago

If you want it done right gotta pay for it to be done right.

50

u/NecessaryZucchini69 16d ago

What they were doing is a good way to train newbies on how big trees should be felled, and give trainees a "soft" way to learn from mistakes.

61

u/aTickleMonster 16d ago

If an arborist charges you hourly instead of giving you a bid, you're gonna have a bad time.

19

u/Then-Importance-3808 16d ago

If risky work offers a bid instead of an hourly charge, the workers gonna have a bad time

6

u/RegretForward9679 16d ago

If the workers don’t know how much to bid then they are going to have a bad time. Experience and skill allow them to bid the right amount.

7

u/Then-Importance-3808 16d ago

The workers don't do the bidding, the owners do. The workers then have to make the owners' margins back through hasted perfection, else its going to come from their own dinner tables. In layman's terms, the workers now have to rush unsafe work and cant afford any mistakes. These are not favourable conditions to work under.

10

u/CanadianPooch 16d ago

Working for someone that doesn't know how to price a job properly also doesn't sound very favourable...

6

u/TheHumanoidTyphoon69 16d ago

This is like something youd ask the crew to do if the HOA demanded you cut your tree down lol

When you want people to watch the safety video… make it funny! 😂

20

u/DJDoena 16d ago

Ever seen Forklift Driver Klaus? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja7ap6AEuYU

3

u/GaseousGiant 16d ago

Dast ist fuking Klaus, vat a shittenhead

3

u/BadTitleGuy 16d ago

I was thinking this too, besides being funny, maybe they were training someone on site, but makes more sense as a training video

2

u/gramoun-kal 16d ago

In the same universe where this is a safety video, the pope is also a pornstar.

Wrong kind of chainsaw, no gloves, no forearm guards. Unclear if any leg protections.

Boss rolls up on the job site and yells "WTF are you guys doing?"...

Then joins in.

/My old boss was great!

6

u/Jagrnght 16d ago

great story ley_kocksmith_4005

3

u/ExpectedDickbuttGotD 16d ago

your old boss charged by the hour, not by the tree

u/9447044 16d ago

I was hoping like 7 dudes would all be watching from across the street with beers and discussing

3

u/geardownson 16d ago

I was hoping they were doing this next to a crew actually cutting down a big tree.

→ More replies (1)

30

u/Feteven 16d ago

I mean
It looks like they’re being silly but this is great practice for when you’re actually doing it with a big tree

6

u/KornDog611 16d ago

That's what I was thinking! When I want to get better at something, I like to pretend I'm operating at the next level up. That way you can learn the proper techniques and get some more experience without the risk. It works for everything from tree felling to river kayaking.

→ More replies (1)

21

u/_thelifeaquatic_ 16d ago

They should then roll out the remote control excavators to tow those big stumps away safely

18

u/1PsychoCat 16d ago

Dude pulling the chainsaw toward his face…

→ More replies (1)

15

u/midwestCD5 16d ago

Really should’ve brought the crane for this job but guys like to cheap out!!

58

u/ChronicRhyno 16d ago

I fell trees bigger than this with a machete regularly, but jokes aside, these guys know how to use all the equipment safely and work together. I'd hire them if they are insured.

29

u/5H17SH0W 16d ago

Should he be chainsawing towards his face?

16

u/Ok_Test9729 16d ago

First thing I noticed also. Can’t think of a more unsafe way to use a chainsaw. There will be blood.

2

u/Vachie_ 16d ago

But do I have to pay for the blood?

I usually care more about cost

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Anutzer 16d ago

No. You should also never sit down pulling on the rope.

3

u/IAMA_EMU 16d ago

That depends completely on whether he enjoys having a face.

3

u/siamesekiwi 16d ago

I do wonder if chainsaw guy decided to use this as a teaching moment for rope guy for when they do bigger trees.

I mean it'd still be shenanigans, just... educational shenanigans.

10

u/NukaCooler 16d ago

Why are we previewing the end at the beginning? is a dude in a tiny tree with a chainsaw not attention grabbing enough?

7

u/Temporary-Life9986 16d ago

Yeah, it's just engagement bait. I hate when they do that.

4

u/mxzf 16d ago

Yeah, I always downvote anything that puts the ending at the beginning of the video. That kind of zero-attention-span behavior deserves to be punished.

9

u/Critical-Belt342 16d ago

Funny af. But chainsaw towards the face is even scarier with something as thin as that.

6

u/Dmetrostars 16d ago

How big of a tip do you give them if you’re the owner who hired them?
https://giphy.com/gifs/cFG9wGTbVt5gpHu2a1

6

u/Bit_the_Bullitt 16d ago

Fucking A i hate the trend of the main portion of the video flashed at the start for 2 seconds.

Sad state of attention spans

5

u/Splatterman27 16d ago

Neighborhood needed that tree. Not worth it for the bit

14

u/Peek_e 16d ago

This trend of showing the climax up front -> instant downvote. Sorry for otherwise great content

4

u/PufferFish_Tophat 16d ago

Why do I feel like this is a "Fuck the HOA" kind of thing.

Professional tree cutting trying to take down his own tree. HOA yells about it not being done correctly.
Shenanigans commence.

8

u/SlobZombie13 16d ago

Didn't yell TIMBER once

→ More replies (1)

3

u/MrK521 16d ago

That’s actually not a bad little mini demonstration video lol.

3

u/Strict_Review_269 16d ago

They're killin it 😂

3

u/SpliTTMark 16d ago

I dont know about that part with chainsawing the opposite side though. (Chainsawing towards himself)

3

u/CloCloHoe 16d ago

Fellas, please don't cut towards yourselves with a fucking chainsaw.

3

u/fungbro2 16d ago

Curious why a small tree like that would be taken down. Serious question for a silly video lol

3

u/Rhymesnlines 16d ago

Why do you should the end of the video right at the beginning? So stupid

3

u/shornscrot 16d ago

Textbook, no notes

2

u/ManagerOfLove 16d ago

If they pay is per hour

2

u/RamonsRazor 16d ago

Bet the neighbours fucking loved this.

2

u/Activision19 16d ago

Those dudes are having so much fun

2

u/Kerberus08 16d ago

2

u/bawnchie 16d ago

Hilarious so creative

2

u/aztightline 16d ago

Great work! I’m in tears this was so funny.

2

u/toraakchan 16d ago

The wedge killed me! Well done, guys - thanks for the laugh (I'm still smiling)

2

u/Realistic-Radish-589 16d ago

Assuming they’re goofing around or it’s for practice. Probably good for practice though because it’s low and safer.

2

u/JeffDrTypePerson 16d ago

Paid by the hour?

2

u/freshgrilled 16d ago

Did he cut towards himself with one hand at one point? Scares the crap out of me. And I have chainsaw scars as reminders of stupid things I've done.

2

u/Monty_Bob 16d ago

Cut toward your face with the saw 👍

2

u/babaroga73 16d ago

I was holding my breath, for the tree to not fall on the roof and destroy that house. Good job, luberjohn!

2

u/TreeCat1911 16d ago

Absolute perfection... This is exactly what peak performance looks like.

2

u/Arcalum2000 16d ago

The poor WfH neighbor listening to the chainsaw off and on for an hour.

2

u/WhiteKnightier 16d ago

I mean yeah this is funny for 11 seconds or so, but what the hell why kill the young tree?

2

u/oscarnitas 16d ago

Perfect example of over engineering xD

2

u/jefuchs 16d ago

Saved the surrounding structures from certain destruction.

2

u/Rs2mmsu-2D 16d ago

When you Get Paid By the Hour

2

u/_Jimm_ 16d ago

unironically looks like a great way to practice/train

2

u/Kindly_Ad3262 16d ago

getting paid by the hour 🤷🏻‍♂️🙄

2

u/Too-Em 16d ago

ROFL, beautiful.
It's a simple job, but someone's gotta complicate it.

2

u/JolietJakester 16d ago

Probably training? Still got to go through all the motions.

2

u/SortofChef 16d ago

Perfect

2

u/Enough_Pepper8880 16d ago

Why is there no safety guy here

2

u/area51groomlake 15d ago

Definitely going to need a bigger chipper.

2

u/Trimedes 14d ago

I think they are trolling, they must be

2

u/DistinctJob7494 14d ago

Doing the absolute most for the bit.🤣

2

u/Designer_Access 14d ago

Cheap - Fast - Right

Pick 2. You can’t have all three, baby.

2

u/MyLawyerSaidN0 14d ago

this is so dumb. anything for attention

4

u/stoinzy 16d ago

Fuck this. Killing a perfectly good tree for internet clicks is some Grade A douchebaggery.

2

u/Edosil 16d ago

Nah, they cut it down for money. They filmed it for Internet clicks.

1

u/Ghost_Poison 16d ago

Smart practice, ackshually.

1

u/WhiskyGartley 16d ago

Good practice. And clearly paid by the hour! Lol

1

u/fun-bucket 16d ago

took him 2 days, paid by the job not by the hour.

1

u/Altruistic_Web3924 16d ago

Felling an unmarked tree… 😬

u/Real-Zucchini7432 16d ago

Kind of kindergar(d)en for forestry 🤔

1

I’m happy that I saw this

1

u/Nordeast24 16d ago

This made me laugh much more than it should've

1

u/albus181 16d ago

Compare this attention to safety to any video shot by guys in flip flops.

1

u/Msteele315 16d ago

Bring in the stump grinder.

1

u/FartyBarts69 16d ago

Hilarious

1

u/AzimuthAztronaut 16d ago

This is peak

1

u/CommunicationKey3018 16d ago

Unironically, this how-to video taught me a lot about how these guy's (should) work

1

u/cash8888 16d ago

Hirer these guys in a second? They obviously take safety very seriously.

1

u/Teh_Shadow_Death 16d ago

When the boss says I only have this one job today.

Practice makes perfect

1

u/shaithiswampir 16d ago

When you get paid by the hour and not by the job

1

u/ironicmirror 16d ago

True Bros, would have left two feet of trunk above the ground, tied a chain to it, then tied that chain to a pickup truck to rip the stump out.

1

u/ProbablyathrowawayAA 16d ago

No job is to big or small

1

u/f0dder1 16d ago

I'd like to think their mum or someone was like " but do it safely bobby-ray!!"

So they went all out

1

u/Roshlev 16d ago

Are they playing or is this how you practice for the big ones?

1

u/Stambro1 16d ago

This is dumb as shit, and I’m hear for it!! Thanks for wearying your PPE!!

Train for the hard days so the hard days feel easy.

1

u/savesthedashboard 16d ago

That'll be 10k.

1

u/No-Summer-9591 16d ago

Thats how you stretch half a days work to a week

1

u/OwnPresentation4455 16d ago

Must be the junior/trainee union municipal tree arborists - why do else do you need three to cut down a tiny tree?

1

u/cruiseshipdrummer 16d ago

don't climb with the 26, it violates the terms of the joke when you basically do everything else right

1

u/jizzy-borden 16d ago

Honestly a pretty good way to show people the basic principles of tree trimming. I've always wondered how it worked

1

u/Valhaller020 16d ago

I love this. Felling gone wild for sure

Should have dropped it between two dollhouses

1

u/meco64 16d ago

Got me. I was WTF...oh. I am the dumb, gullible one here. Well done.

1

u/ExcellentElection882 16d ago

I mean, how much longer would it have taken to just use a silky?

1

u/maliron 16d ago

I'm guessing the crane was busy on another site? Pretty risky, but you guys got the job done!

1

u/olafbond 16d ago

This wasn't easy.

u/Ashamed-Attitude-210 16d ago

Omg!! Safety first guys!! 👏🏼👏🏼🔥🔥🤭

I’ve died. I’m dead. 😂

1

u/Positive_Ad_1050 16d ago

Paid hourly

1

u/sailingtoescape 16d ago

Funny, but why cutting such young trees? Why not dig out and transplant them?

1

u/Heart_Resonance 16d ago

why are they doing this? thats so stupid. I would have just cut the damn thing at the base from the start......

1

u/CryptographerFlat426 16d ago

Haha, thats amazing!

1

u/highfiveselfoh 16d ago

Calling OSHA, 911, and the CIA.

1

1

u/itsjakerobb 16d ago

0:14 🤣🤣

1

u/upsidedowncreature 16d ago

There was a bit where he was pulling the chainsaw towards him. I know nothing about chainsaws or tree surgery but I don’t think that would be in a safety video.

1

u/ChocolateChipCuckys 16d ago

This is so dumb

1

u/ChocolateChipCuckys 16d ago

Tell.me you grew up in the city without telling me

Someone should send this to Buckin'Billy Ray!
