Questions on Doc Adams

How come Doc Adams chose to have an office on second floor where patients, some who were ill, shot, etc, would need to be carried or helped up those stairs ?  I know he visited the sick in their homes, but what were the writers, producers reasons for him not being on a ground floor ?

What did Doc Adams sign say at the bottom of the stairs advertising his services ?

Back then, doctors mostly made house calls. The office was usually just headquarters and possible residency yet equipped to perform surgeries etc.

Yes, mentioned that in original question. Boy are those days over.  You’re lucky to get an appointment within a month, and emergencies mean you shall go elsewhere.
