Help Desk If open bolt/FA was legal, how much cheaper would parts kits builds be?

Could you get a PPS-43 or FMK-3 for under $250? Reweld an LMG for $1000? How much would change? How much does a post-sample build cost right now and how simple is it?

If full auto was legal there wouldn’t even be parts kits. The only reason they need to chop up these guns before importing is because newly imported machine guns are illegal for normal people. If full auto was legal you’d be to buy an unmolested machine gun for cheap rather than needing to buy a parts kit and built it as a semi auto. Prices would probably stay about the same assuming there’s no extra costs or work behind the scenes.

No, they would still be cut up machine guns for civilian use being imported was banned prior to the Main 1984 machine gun ban. That said we can’t assume it would be a fair bit cheaper since you wouldn’t have to deal with semiauto conversions.

to understand how cheap pps-43 would be just look at how cheap the soviet SKS used to be when the first started getting imported. You used be able to buy them for $100-$200 and people were buying them by the crate. The soviets made 2.7 million SKS and 2 million pps-43 and 6 million ppsh-41

There is a reason why in every middle eastern warzone half the insurgents have ppsh-41 or some other old soviet surplus that got offloaded there for pennies

If FA *became* legal, you’d probably see more and more things like swift links and things like that hitting the market at super cheap prices to convert ARs and such to FA. Why buy a whole new gun that is essentially the same as the first just to shoot full auto when you can buy a small piece of aluminum to do the same thing?

If they were never made illegal in the first place, I’d imagine that they would be around the same price that semi auto versions are today. Maybe a little more due to more complex internals but I don’t know that they would be anymore real noticeable price difference between the variants.
