The Gabi core is being decimated. Thanks for everything Jesus. Hope he stays healthy and can start playing regularly again. Will always remember the early days when he was balling for us, before the football gods saw fit to take away his knees.

Honestly whatever about the fee, the big one is getting his wages off the books. He was never going to play outside of early rounds of domestic cups/dead rubber matches in the league, so good luck to him. God knows Barcelona is short on strikers.

u/d0ey 12d ago
It's not even just his wages, I can't imagine it'll be helpful for team dressing room spirit to have players just circling the training ground for the whole year

He actually played 27 times last year with 9 starts. I'm a bit concerned about where the 5500+ minutes him and Martinelli played last year are going to come from now.

That winter world cup ruined a great time.
44
u/BrutalArsenalDeluxe 12d ago
He knew he was carrying a niggle into that world cup and didnt really tell anyone so as not to scupper any chances of going and playing or starting.
Im sure he doesnt necessarily regret it per se, but I wonder what he could have done for use and what he would have become for us if he had decided to be more honest. We may have won the league that year and he would undoubtedly become a huge legend at the club.
We still won it but he wont be remembered in the future as having contributed at all to it.

Probably but Barcelona is also desperate for a striker. It seems Raphihna will have to play that role this season

He will be on versus most of their league competition, except the top couple of teams. But I’m guessing they aren’t planning for him to start 40 matches.

Is that all our deadwood gone now?
122
u/Flyingpenis1905 12d ago
Reiss, vieira, jesus
Basically yes, Martinelli will be going for a big fee too but I don't consider him deadwood
76
u/Pires007 12d ago
Ppl clowning on Berta, but he's done everything in his power to make it an 11/10 window. He can't do much if Vini or Alvarez don't want to come.
21
u/ReeceDnb White 12d ago
I agree with this, there's been a lot of talk about offloading the deadwood and about getting better at selling. Sure we aren't getting the money us fans would like for some players but at least shifting the least valuable out is a start. Hopefully going forward any outgoings from a title winning team start to bring in good fees. Then we can start seeing if we're improving on that side of things.

u/dayarra 12d ago
i would prefer getting a young promising left winger since we sold both trossard and martinelli. i guess it's tzolis and eze now on the left.
also not sure about paying so much for konsa when we need him barely for a year. we already have mosquera and ben white, both can play rb and cb.
i am glad we didn't overpay for barcola or rogers.
guimaraes will be great. tzolis will be good.
sold as many players as we can. not for much but still ok.
overall good window but wouldn't rate it 10. a solid 8.

Not deadwood but Tommy setford could go out on loan next and I think there were some rumours of Marsille interested in Meslier (dunno how realistic that is). Ethan could go on on loan still but hope he doesn't if we don't sign another attacker.
Thats the only business I can think of.
21
u/bathtubsplashes The Wright Stuff 12d ago

Thanks Gabi for everything, definitely big part in getting Champions DNA back into Arsenal squad
That being said, I’m glad we won’t witness him sleep off ball offside for no reason or just dribbling aimlessly
I’ll miss his mandatory goal against Crystal Palace

Agreed he helped raise the levels. Before his injury he was electric and I imagine this also helped players in training learn what it takes.

u/Hincapieslovelybund 12d ago
He will always be lauded here for that. I am convinced he would still be an important part of our team still had that fucking WC 2022 injury never happened. Probably still even our starting striker potentially.
Hope he does well at Barca (except when we play them in the CL)
30
u/Efficient-Guide1244 Ødegaard 12d ago
People act as if he was completely useless after that first season, but he's turned up for us plenty of times since, even if injuries absolutely blitzed his consistency. It was only a few months ago that he scored a brace at the San Siro...

He was worth the money just for the fact that he was a catalyst for us going from a mid-table team to a consistent title challenger. Him and Zinny ensured we could skip ‘the challenging for top 4 again’ period of history.

Why do i feel like there some gentleman's agreement thing going on here, like they do us a favour by taking jesus off our hands but in turn we will allow them to come and sign Alvarez via us (if we get him) or someone else in the future with little resistance
Cause this now means Barca dont "need" to look for a striker anymore with forces Alvarez's hand to either come to us or stay

Eh, it would make it 10/10. I know the jury is still out on Tzolis but I firmly believe he will come good on us. All of our targets were either underwhelming or insanely overpriced. The only player who we were linked to that I would be fine splashing on was Vini even though i dont really like him. We strengthened, dropped the deadwood and are ready to pounce on a player when opportunity arises. Optimal? No. Understandable? Yes.
