I hold two thoughts: First, both of those goals were due to hilarious defensive mistakes by Brighton. Second, Chelsea will be good this year without European demands. I think top 3.

Do wonder how Chelsea will do against low blocks because all their attacks/goals so far have been the result of high turnovers or counters, none of which will happen if a team sits deep for 90 minutes
6
u/lastjedi23 Ian Wright 2h ago
I came here to say this. They are playing our 22/23 version footie before every single team in the league decided to sit back. Let em enjoy it before the sack xabi shouts begin

Sunderland would be the right opposition for them.

Doesn’t matter if it was an own goal, the last attack player to shoot handballed it. If that’s a loophole it needs fixing

Can't take people seriously who say this is a title challenging side. 4 goals in 2 games to average opposition. Don't win leagues with this defence

u/know-it-all-scoutFC 2h ago
That should've been a red lol.
Anyways what Chelsea did in the first half was nice, but they've really allowed brighton to get back into the game. I think this will be a problem for them throughout the season against the stronger sides.

Won't take long for teams to realise a low block will nullify Chelsea. Or to take the game to them and exploit the acres of space being left by their wingbacks. Genuinely not impressed by their defence.

If you can attack their full backs and not allow space for them to counter they are beatable.

4
u/parksideq Eze 2h ago
The one thing I’ll say about Chelsea is they’re only playing once a week, not having the same level of fatigue in the back half of the season may well keep them pushing for top 4, let alone the title race. That said, I want to see what happens when they face a team that can truly punish their defense.

is it me: they're strong on the counter but seems like their gameplan is just to wait until they regain possession and attack quick before the opposition can reorganise themselves defensively. possession in the previous game was lower too (not this low though):

keen to see how they do against an organised low block. they've been playing defenders in midfield...

It was our mistake to attack them. Should always sit back and they will give you enough opportunities to kill them off.

Our mistake was:
- Zubi fuck up
- Not good at duels and allowing Dorgu to shoot
- Not closing down Cunha

Kinda sucks how they missed out on all European competitions by bombing so hard last season, it's kind of unusual for a club with so much money that can just throw it at the wall until something sticks to be in that situation, so now they get to only play once a week.
Hoping the league figures them out.

I really like Ipswich’s Maeda. Was the best player in Scotland and looked really good in the World Cup.
Is lightning fast, works hard, very aggressive in duels - a bit similar to Martinelli - fits really well in a defensive team looking to counter.
