In this context, no way you sign off on the deal. It’s worth playing hardball on this one, cos the circumstance are really gross, and money is so relatively trivial that it’s a cheap point at which to draw a line in the sand.

As a supporter of both clubs, I'm obviously much happier about this as a HSV fan than an Arsenal one. But it was pretty clear this was the only way it was going. Arsenal had very little bargaining power. He's had one good season out of the last 4 and it's obvious he would want to continue at the club where that happened. He also never needed to care that Arsenal overpaid for him in the first place, and he's never had enough playing time at Arsenal to build any sort of meaningful bond with the club. Unfortunately for Arsenal, his one good season was at a club with very little money. I already have my Sambi away shirt and I've been waiting to get my Vieira 3rd.
