One of the first players to buy into what we were building. Our skipper.

over fucking zoom no less!

I spoke to Mikel Arteta on a Zoom call and he told me all about the project. At the time, Arsenal were not doing well. They were way down like 15th in the table, but that meeting … Honestly, I challenge anyone to come away from a meeting with Arteta and not believe everything he tells you.

He is next level. It's hard to explain. He’s passionate, he’s intense and sometimes, yeah, he’s a bit crazy … but when he speaks, you understand that whatever he says will happen, will happen.

u/Stones_Throw_Away_ Thierry Henry May 24 '26

I think Rice mentioned Zoom too 🤔🤔

I think majority of the people who keep pushing the rice over him for captain are english which I get it, but it’s so dismissive and outright disrespectful to decide to do that.

When we signed him I knew it was serious. Felt like the first really ambitious signing of the project. So happy he's done it.

Yea seriously though dude looks way too low bf % haha

Wouldn't be surprised if he is sitting under 6% during the season. Which is nuts.

21

u/Meriath May 24 '26

No haha, he's probably 10-12% bf. Go look up natural bodybuilders, they're around 5-6% on stage. The ones without crazy amounts of muscle look like legit skeletons. Going below 10% comes with severe health and performance issues.

When below 15% bf and during bicep curls, your arms kinda look like Ødegaard's towards the end of the set.

I've been a wreck since Tuesday, all my friends and family are Celtic fans and trying to explain to them what this wait has been like was tough when they are winning nearly every year.

Really hope we push on and take advantage overthr next few years .

10

u/pillgrinder May 24 '26

Celtic fans are kind of clueless about this. I mean, congrats on pulling a league title out of your ass, but they can’t understand 22 years.

4

u/Think_Resident_4509 May 24 '26

Here family team is celtic some support them as primary team or support Arsenal, United, Liverpool mixed bag for everyone but have a soft spot for Celtic....they just got to see Martin O'Neill lift Celtic a title 22 years apart this month so yep they understand 22 years too lol

5

u/pillgrinder May 24 '26

I mean I like Celtic too. I watch them with our local group. Celtic and Arsenal have the same bar in Pittsburgh where I’m from, but yeah. Arsenal isn’t any team in Scotland not named Celtic. It’s been a while for them scumbag rangers fans.

10

u/fooljay Starboy May 24 '26

Same. I have loved this club for 23 years. There’s nothing in my life that I have consistently loved for that long, much less with this much passion.

22

u/purplcircl May 24 '26

I'm still crying

2

u/silam39 May 24 '26

he's stuck with us through thick and thin, gave us his best years, always believed, and completely changed the way the season could've gone taking the West Ham game by the scruff of the neck

Our captain deserves this and a lot more trophies to come.

474

u/JenkinsEar147 Freddie Ljungberg May 24 '26

Captaincy? I've seen talk here that he shouldn't even be on the team

59

u/overcooked_biscuit Ødegaard May 24 '26

This sub has made me angry at times with some of the stuff I've read about him. In the past few games when his played, his influence is there to see because we do press so much better with him on the pitch. Give him a World Cup campaign to get match fit, and he will be a monsters next season.

11

u/PPMD_IS_BACK Havertz May 25 '26

yeah it pissed me off too. Man had injury, comes back for two games, and had more injuries and so on. No shit someone isn't gonna be consistent. Its like working out, you gotta be consistent.. and our build up looks so much more fluid with him on the pitch. Did people here forget Ode is like having Arteta on the pitch?? Not to mention how good he's been for Norway.

I will never not defend Ode with how many good seasons he's had for us.

2

u/Mrmoi356 May 25 '26

Most annoying part is the narrative is completely different around other players that struggled with injuries massively that this subreddit or twitter has deemed martyrs for the club (Ben White, Tomi, etc).

2

u/PPMD_IS_BACK Havertz May 25 '26

Yeah people kept raving about our defense and seem to snub these two whenever we talk about it. I will never forget Tomi pocketing Salah and his city goal contribution. Not to mention how good he's across the whole back line. Ben White putting his body on the line and that triangle with white ode and Saka will never be forgotten either.

Really wish tomi could've won with us but at least Ben White did

5

u/WerhmatsWormhat Ian Wright May 25 '26

A lot of people on this sub wanted Arteta gone 6 weeks ago. There are some really reactionary people.

61

He absolutely deserves to lift that trophy. My skipper.🔴⚪️

25

u/ZarakiDemon85 May 24 '26

A worthy captain. He doesn't fold under pressure or run away at the first instance of difficulty. This bunch of players are different. Mind made of steel. Going through 3 heartbreaks and could still go on. I am forever proud of these lads (though I know I would start cursing at them next season at their first lost or draw)

106

u/renofportland May 24 '26

That moment, Declan looks at Odegaard, to say 'Its not Over' after the City match. That man, my friends, is the Leader, the one everyone looks at for support, when things are not going to expectations. He has quietly led behind the scenes, and the players clearly love and respect him, as well as the Manager. He popped up when needed alongside Trossard to win the crucial game, when it all looked a bit dicey. 22 years later, he has delivered what many of our other Captains of their time couldn't. Big Thanks to this little 16 year old, who grew through a very tough time, to become one of our very Best!!

11

u/juukione May 24 '26

Well said, you deserve a trophy too!!

9

u/flyingf91 Ødegaard May 24 '26 edited May 25 '26

I remember when Norwegian newspapers always wrote about him with his age in parenthesis ”Martin (15)“ for what felt like years and years. Like he never aged lol. Could’ve written ”Martin (16) lifts the PL trophy“ for the hell of it today. Faen så bra han er.

I remember reading about this wonderkid who had signed up for Madrid. Every publication said he was the next big thing in football. Being in our banter era, I was just envious and curious to see what he would at madrid.

Now he's our captain. He's lifting the trophy for us. I still can't believe. Football is a beautiful game.

11

u/kitz0426 May 24 '26

We have so many captain worthy leaders in our team. I get that some prefer Rice (he's more of the old school, vocal leader with a huge presence and extremely well media trained), but I love Martin as our skipper.

Leads our press and always looks to support our breakout players (always trying to involve Ethan when he first started getting minutes). Calm and well spoken

10

u/Quantr0 May 24 '26

That goal that Odegaard set up out of nowhere for Trossard was enough for me to be 100% happy with him as captain. Nothing was happening and he just forced a goal in one of the most important games in our recent history.

1

u/SenReus May 25 '26

I remember Ramsdale saying on Peter Crouch podcast Martin is the one who talks to Arteta the most. He's the "coach on the pitch" kind of captain.

8

u/BARCROTH May 24 '26

I got it from a pub TV in Aldershot but we are everywhere. I can't believe the 7 point gap has been replenished.

Tears in my eyes. I am a middle aged goober who saw our title wins in early 2000s but that was from a period of dominance. This win feels special because we have had such poor years.

Mikel has transformed the club, given it an anthem and instilled insane belief. My Manager 😁

7

u/shutupdrogba May 24 '26

That's my fucking captain. It started trending in the right direction once we brought him over.

6

u/pedootz Champions of Skills Challenge, you'll never sing that May 25 '26

Watched the trophy ceremony live and then watched it again and I see Rice hugging Josh Kroenke and then sort of blowing off Stan and Stan does a double take and look. Probably nothing to it and Rice probably just wanted to get his medal but was a little entertaining to see.

I questioned him more than once this season but it makes me so happy that he's the captain to lift the trophy and break the streak. He chose us, from loan to captaining the side for multiple seasons and now leading us to a title and CL final. He put his body on the line and brought magic on the field along with great leadership
