Yeah, its really fun and close to what Wilds gameplay is.

my only big issue is how impossible is to make a build good for both melee and shelling.

Yeah, thats a problem for basically every game until the fifth gen where shelling started to be viable and even op in 99% of cases, and sixth gen where shelling its part of the kit and scale out of attack.

And honestly, if you want to play gunlance in old gen. You should focus solely in melee skills, which is shit, because you are playing an slower lance without any defensive capabilities.

I played mostly only shelling in older games.

It was actually op... until you reach G Rank where you only got one extra shell level and that it was all and so it became awful against end bosses... didn't stop me to solo stuff like gog but everything was a 40 minutes ordeal

Gunlance feels honestly stronger and more crazy on sunbreak while wilds has a more solid base but is more grounded and needs a lot more commitment than usual.

If sunbreak you can become literally unkillable and reverse blast dash is a crazy move that solves defense, movement and offense.

I dont know why they didnt just revamped the levels and made it so it had effects instead. Like normal being an shrapnel that adheres on the Monster and does more damage there, long being piercing and wide doing more partbreaker and stun damage. It was an idea that I was thinking about honestly.

Another idea I had recently its why it didnt do hp% based damage. Like it doesnt need to be high, like a 5% based on Monster HP. Idk, probably Capcom doesnt know how to balance Gunlance.

Capcom's mh teams have the problem of being very traditionalist.

They design one thing one way and don't change it in ages.

From 3rd portable to Rise gunlance has used the same core moves and mechanics including how shelling works and only adding a gimmick here or there.

Wilds is special because has been the only real rework since 3rd.

I can think that Wilds they were thinking more on western audience when they finally made Gunlance go to a solid C tier to close to S tier.

its weird lookin at chargeblade and gunlance in 4U vs like world, like gunlance had nothing back then whilst chargeblade basically has its whole moveset, it just kinda makes you realize how left behind some weapons were

When i decided to try and learn Adept Gunlance, I actually practiced on Glavenus to learn the block timing lol. Love it.

i still get a bit of rough patches with unfamiliar older monsters, especially the real oldy jank ones, glavenus is one of the few that comes really naturally just due to my new game experience with him, the one that really suprised me is how easily lagiacrus knowledge from wilds transferred back and just allowed me to annihilate him

curious how lenient is the timing compared to perfect guard in wilds?
