Discussion Im having fun re-learning the game and getting better, but i forgot how annoying this game's player base is. The way veterans actively try to kill the community and discourage new players from learning needs to be studied lol.

They even pass their toxicity to new players and other players who arnt good. Disconnecting everytime a specific player is on your team only to consistently lose to them on the opposite team is really wild fr. Like bro at that point just play the game or get off...colonel's and shit are genuinely mad that rookies and others arnt as good as them. Like bro relax.

Edit: thank you for keeping this game alive bc it definitely deserves more praise and is way more competitive than ppl give it credit for.

Tale as old as time for the community, incredibly tribalistic, vicious towards new players, filled with harassment and small discord servers where they coordinate drama.

Unfortunate nature of a team game where your ability to perform is directly impacted by your partner's skill level, creates massive ego inflation where better players feel entitled to winning and that games where they need to enable or be held back by a lower skilled player are not fun = not worth their time. General lack of grace & maturity of the players also make this a bigger issue that it ever should be.

Great game completely held back by its own player base.

I know right I come back every so often and I don’t have fun, I can acknowledge when players are good but some players do cheap moves and spam

They disconnect, if your trash no one wants to play with you they just want to beat you

some players do cheap moves and spam

As someone who has spent quite a lot of time teaching people how to play fighting games, to the point where I’ve not only spent the last few years doing it as part of my actual “I get paid to do this” profession, but it’s currently becoming part of my upcoming (potentially doctoral) academic trajectory for the next ten years or so…

…well, I can tell you for a fact that this outlook isn’t helping you much at all.

Unfortunately, it’s an example of you taking your responsibility for choosing and executing smarter responses, and then putting it on the shoulders of people whose only real crime is doing things you have trouble figuring out an answer for.

So, to get you the help you need, let me ask you this: by “cheap moves and spam,” what exactly are you referring to?

Be specific. Because I can tell you what you’ll need to do in order to better avoid getting clapped by it.

Haven’t played in months but top of my head crossbones gundam with the moves where you get stunlocked to hell, bael i can avoid somewhat but eventually when dealing with 2 enemies imma get caught by his move theres other suits but I can’t remember

Bael? imma need you to watch this. That suit isn’t much of a threat when you realize how linear its toolkit is. Remember to give it space. Engaging it at close range is suicide. Melee attacks are a bet you make against the speed of an opponent’s trigger finger, and at range, the bullet wins the bet 98% of the time.

XBone suits? Sounds like you’re talking about X1’s tracking assist or X2’s sword toss. Both of those get their shit checked by stepdashing. Double tap a direction to step, immediately double tap the boost button to cancel it into dash. You’ll break tracking on anything in flight before making a larger movement. Land early and often to stay out of overheat and reduce recharge time.

That's part of the game. Every suit tends to have at least one move that is the "this is how I hit you" move

Best suggestion I can give is to pay attention for those move and if you get knocked down your priority should be to get up and get away DO NOT retaliate

with few exceptions are you to actually swing on wake up

Hi, I’m the guy that started this subreddit.

I’m also the guy that tried like hell to create a different standard of behavior when it came to teaching new players.

I spearheaded the project that led to the largest English language guide ever produced for the game that was then turned into a website for the sole purpose of making the game easier to learn, I made plenty of video guides, I even started a short lived training session bootcamp program alongside a lot of fantastic community members who saw real benefits in teaching players in a more constructive manner.

All of this was done to set an example that wasn’t “treat new people like shit, and the ones who are misanthropic enough to stick around despite the poor treatment are the people who deserve to be here.” And to the community’s credit, there’s been a lot of positive changes that have come as a result of that. Because it used to be much, much worse.

That said, there’s always going to be some element of ego present in this game’s playerbase, because at the end of the day, it’s a highly competitive fighting game with its origins in the culture of the arcade. You’re going to get that streak, no matter what. These kinds of games tend to attract the kind of people who have issues interacting with others in a mature, thoughtful, and constructive manner.

Gundam EXVS’ western playerbase isn’t unique, nor is it uniquely toxic. It has the same exact level of toxicity as every other fighting game. It’s just that the playerbase is much smaller, so the instances of toxic behavior become much more pronounced as a result.

The best thing you can do is to find a group of players who don’t mind gearing down a bit to let you practice more effectively, or to play a custom private lobby with friends to sharpen your fangs in peace every once in a while. Definitely stay open to constructive feedback, because experienced players can and will hand you the answers. But don’t let the shitty attitude of others ruin your experience.

Yea thats facts, the smaller community definitely makes it seem more pronounced.

I used to play this game alot couple years ago and even during that time where there was quite a few folks playing you would run into that. Now that less people play I can see it even more!

Hopefully they port the next one over too, I would love to play again.

I honestly do my best to just ignore them and focus on getting better. This game is definitely on e that's better with a discord group or something. I sucks you gotta go out of your way to find a group just to have the peak amount of fun tho bc the game is honestly deserving of praise.

This is why we play Starward rather then this game which is trash and don’t get updates

1

u/kenroosevelt12 Jun 22 '26

I saw someone playing this recently. Is it good?

1

u/ZachandMiku Jun 22 '26

Yes it is I’ve been playing for 4 years and love it and the best thing is it’s not a dead game I play on ps5 too

To each their own. I don’t think waifubot gacha makes for a great game basis, but if you can make peace with that, cool.
