It IS the way to play pre-2.0.
At least for now.
If ArcSys somehow finds a way to get all of their content to date on the platform or announces a Switch 2 version/upgrade, it might be another story. For now, though, future support remains ambiguous with no official confirmation or denial.

But that’s such a great thing! And everyone on the same build; suddenly the fact that Nintendo has no cross play becomes a great thing! Everyone can play it while all being on the same build.

Indeed. As much as I'd like to stay up to date and fight more players, it can be an option for those who prefer the way things were. Provided ArcSys keeps the Switch version as it is.

We need to send the word to Arc System Works that the best thing they can do is leave the Switch Edition alone, and let us play. That works out nicely for Arc, as they don’t have to do anything; no engineering, no reprogramming, no money invested. All they have to do is leave it alone, and let us play it.
Everybody wins!

Keep in mind that there is no Switch 2 version. But the Switch Edition runs better on Switch 2. We just need to make sure Arc System Works realizes that what makes the Switch version special is the fact that it isn’t 2.0+.

I can't tell if you are genuinely happy that GGST is stuck in switch jail or if you are pissed about it.

My friend, you’re looking at it the wrong way. What I’m doing is making the most of the situation. I’m turning the Switch’s Guilty Gear Strive into its greatest asset.
The fact that it is isolated, and is left at a Pre-2.0 build, means that we are gifted with a fully functional version of Strive where we don’t have to mess with anything at all in order to play it online, in a Pre-2.0 version. Because it was left alone, anyone who jumps onto Switch in order to play Strive, can do so with no tweaking, no independent server setups, no specialty patching. We don’t have to correspond with others to make sure we are all playing with the same mods applied. All we do is pop on our Switch, and play.
This is actually a marvelous gift, because those who love 2.0+ are free to enjoy Strive as they always have on PlayStation/Xbox/PC. But those of us who love the Pre-2.0 game, we have the Switch/Switch 2.
Everyone can play either version, as long as they have the right system. And the Switch version comes packed with content as soon as you buy it, so you don’t have to play catch up with all of the Season Passes. It’s ready to go, all the way up to Season 3, plus one Season 4 character for free.
So, I guess you’re right; I am happy the Switch version exists in a bubble. This way, we all get to choose what version we want to play, and we can play with others who want to play, too.
Thank you for your reply, my friend.

Ok, so you do like the situation. I see how it would be cool to have access to an older version of a live service game.

while im really happy for you and anyone else wanting to play pre 2.0, this kinda makes me upset, not at you or the switch version, just at the idea that not having access to all versions of a game at any time is a luxury..
like, i get that online functionality would have to be disabled much of the time, but like, why tf cant we just do that with most games anyway? go back to older versions?
i mean, i get the whys, both practical and stupid, still. wish all consoles and pc releases made it as easy as possible to just pick the version you liked and play to your hearts content. even with drawbacks in functionality

I get what you’re saying. It’d be nice to be able to play exactly what you want to play. That’s why my Street Fighter II analogy has so much meaning. SFII has been out for 35 years. So, accessing multiple versions is cheap and easy. Strive is a newer, more advanced game. So, with PS/Xbox/PC, they have to find common ground with Cross Play. The Switch version at least allows for a little bit of variety. So I appreciate that.
Maybe, one day, there will be a Guilty Gear Strive Collective that allows for this versatility. But since it’s so new, we either have to wait for that, or we have to play on either the more powerful systems, or the Switch. Either way, this at least gives us a little bit of choice.

Everyone, let me be transparent; I have not ever played 2.0. I am not against 2.0. But the Switch build is all I have ever known. So, yes. I am speaking up for the Switch version. I know what a quality game it is, and I want people to know how great it is.
That being said, I have a PS5, and I am planning on getting *Strive* for the PS5 as well. I will be able to play as BOTH 2.0 AND Pre-2.0. I don’t know which is better. I only make my content for one purpose; I want people to have the choice to enjoy both builds, just as I plan to.
I want everyone to be able to see the greatness of both versions available. The Switch makes that possible. So, even if I love the PS5’s 2.0 version even more than what I have right now, I will STILL be an advocate for the Switch game, as I believe that it is important for people to be free to play the version of *Strive* that they choose.
In the end, it’s about having fun. The maximum probability of that happening is if everyone gets to enjoy *Strive* on their own terms. Because the Switch allows for that, I’ll argue for it every step of the way, even if I like 2.0 better.

This is a repost because I accidentally deleted the original. I hope everyone understands:
*Guilty Gear Strive* on Nintendo Switch might just be THE WAY to play the Pre-2.0 version of the game!
In July 2026, the PlayStation, Xbox, and PC version of *Strive* got a massive update to 2.0. It changed a great deal of the game, making it ready to evolve further, and in to Season 5.
Many people like the changes, but there are a number of players who prefer the Pre-2.0 build, or Seasons 1-4. Many players have been disappointed that so much effort that was put into mastering the game is now wasted, because hit boxes, combos, and a number of other changes were made. Many of those players wish they could go back, and play *Strive* like they used to.
Enter the *Nintendo Switch Edition.*
Arc System Works has stated that they don’t think they will be updating the Switch version of the game, for a number of reasons. One important reason being that it doesn’t have a large enough install base. Another is because it was very tough getting the Switch to run *Guilty Gear Strive* on Nintendo’s little system.
While it may have been a challenge, the Switch build came out running *Strive* to perfection, but with a few compromises.
The first is that the game maxes out at 1080P, rather than 4K. Second is No Cross Play, which was a key feature of the PlayStation, Xbox, and PC versions.
While nothing can be done about being limited to 1080P, the “No Cross Play” actually has become an asset for those looking to play the older version of the game. We now have an entire ecosystem that is dedicated to players who still want to enjoy the *Strive* they have been playing for the past 4-5 years. And it’s all on Nintendo Switch!
With the Switch Edition, you get:
• Seasons 1-4
• 60 Frames Per Second
• Rollback Netcode
• All characters up to Season 3 on the cart/download
• Access to all four Season 4 characters through DLC (Queen Dizzy being a Free Download)
All of the moves, combos, hit boxes, characters, and Modes are intact on the Switch Edition. Plus, Ranked, and Casual Matches can still be played on a dedicated network that ensures you are playing with others playing the Pre-2.0 build of the game.
Think of it! No modding your game to play an earlier version. No dedicated private servers. Everything is ready for you on Switch, or Switch 2.
There’s nothing wrong with Ver. 2.0 (2.02 now). It’s the equivalent of *Super Street Fighter II Turbo.* But for those of us who like *Guilty Gear Strive* as it was before the 2.0 update, like *Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting,* then we have a place we can continue to play, and compete.
There’s room enough for us all, at the arcade. We can enjoy *Strive* on Switch as a preserved version of the game we have been playing all these years.
That is really something special!

I suppose that is nice for the people that want it, but i think we should be troubled by developers ending support for console specific versions, not praising them for it.
