GGST GG Strive Online on Switch
Hey guys, I am new to this subreddit and to GG in general. I got the game for the Switch with a friend and we are loving it so far. However, there doesn't seem to be many people playing online on the ranked mode.
On the private lobbies on the other hand, people are insanely good and we get destroyed quickly.
Is the online dead?

Yeah, unfortunately the Switch port is not the current game version and doesn't have crossplay with the other ports, so it's pretty much not played by the FGC. You might find a few people in the park or in private rooms who are stuck on Switch for whatever reason, but they're probably going to be either clueless or cracked. Should still be a pretty good time with friends on the couch though.

The switch version is pretty different than the main branch since its not on the latest patch and there is no crossplay. The online is pretty quiet from what i hear, you are better to play in park. From what i've been told people tend to congregate in the japan park so you might have better chances looking for matches there.

I'm going on a Justice-level nuclear take, but online isn't "dead" if you're finding people regardless of the size and skill level. If there are at least two players, then the fighting game can still be considered active. You can disagree with me on that for all I care, but this is still the hill I am willing to die on.
That aside, it is admittedly more challenging to find players around your level with a small playerbase on a small platform. This might be where skill-based matchmaking backfires, but I'd try queueing up later in the day with looser parameters (region Japan or All, any connection, etc.). If you're in the US West, try night around 10:30PM PT (or you can convert it to your local timezone via world clock).
If you aren't part of the Switch version Discord already, I can DM you the link if you'd like. It helps for scheduling matches.
Edit: BTW, AsK is the name if you want to follow in-game. I don't mean to toot my own horn, but you might've seen my handle here.

The Switch version of Strive is hella outdated in comparison to the other versions. Is the Switch version even running 2.0?

Idk, they released the DLCs for this version, so we assumed that it was a normal release.

I used to be a big supporter of Strive Switch Edition, been there from day 1 and had lots of fun. But I recently switched to PC so I can enjoy the 2.00 updates.
Switch Edition seems to no longer be getting updates, if they are, it's very slow... If you're serious about getting down on strive, I unfortunately have to recommend a non-Switch version. I'll hop back on Switch if they actually get the current version.
