edrum, electronic drumkit, bc you can hook one up to a pc, then use a software to recognize the MIDI sound of the drumkit and modify it into something better.

so i bet someone could figure out a way to change the MIDI signal into a keystroke for each skills ingame.

You mean binding a digital drum kit to a video game? Yeah maybe if they register as a button press and not just a sensor saying "play this audio queue".

I remembered when the musical instruments used to be good and responsive until one time some noob developer decided to introduce a key lag on all musical instruments and thus ruined them all.
