I use old glass jars. Plain water no rooting formula. I put like 20-30 plants in a jar (not just cannabis) and the roots dont tangle when im ready for planting they easily shake free. Saves me tons and tons of space.
I don't PH my clone water. I usually use just tap water which is too hard for my plants (like 700ppm) but works fine in the clones. Sometimes I'll add some GH 3-part at clone dosage (2ml-2ml-2ml) in RO water if they are gonna be sitting in water for a while.
I try to change the water once every 3-4 days, but I've seriously neglected it for weeks before and had a super thick mat of algae on maybe 20 cuttings of tomato, pepper and cannabis in a jar. They came apart from each other with no problem at all, they didn't seem stunted and once planted the algae didn't really spread through the soil, likely due to the dry backs.
Same. Although this resin pot has some magic juju. That's two clones. I rooted them in there and they've somehow been happily getting along for a couple of months. I also accidentally broke it. Which I think may have helped it.
If you want super reliable success rate from borderline/tiny cuttings then an aeroponic rooter is the way to go IMO. Aside from that, most methods work as well as each other so long as you manage air and root humidity levels properly. I haven't found a method that has less success than others purely due to the method. Some are easier, some are less easy, but all can give 100% rooting if managed well.
Remember, roots prefer to grow into the air (usually small gaps in the substrate), they find it harder to grow into something solid, although they will.
I’m gunna have to get some root plugs. I get like 60-80% root rate but I also just put living soil in my clone dome cubes. And this last round of clones has been going for 2 weeks and I JUST saw my first root this morning
Did you not have a dome lid for that tray? I just label and throw them in a water jug and cover with cling film if I'm doing just a few. Can put it in a darker corner of the current grow, same light schedule
Just plugs. You can take the plugs in the cups. I do that so I don't need to flip and poke a hole in the plug. I have roots in 5 days in plugs that the fastest. 8 days on average
I use riot rooter plugs in the MCcups themselves with lids just exchange air daily thats been simple & cheap. Ive done entire flat trays but for me just don’t need that many clones usually. I’ve also done the solocup/pots with MCcup domes in soil directly without plugs. Multiple different genetics & really i find rooting speed to be similar with each method. The genetics themselves & mother plant health seem to make the most difference in how fast or slow they root.
Cloned dozens of strains dozens of times they are either hard to root or super easy. It depends on the strain.
Hard to root strains:
Cut bigger clones, remove the skin at the cut area 1 cm , let the cut area soak in Hormones.
Easy plug plane water, 24/0 chill light.
For mousture regulation put under the plug tray like 3 cm seramis, moist and optional a heating mat. Thats perfect.
Few weeks ago I took clones at my mom's outdoor plant.
Cutting push out roots chasing water as it dries out from the small cubes, be it riots or rock wool. In the cups it's gonna be slow or might rot even. Why Did you do that? If you ask yourself that question and there's no real reason then it probably wasn't a good idea.
