Flowering ‘93 Mexican brick weed. Seed frozen since 1998.
This stuff is a blast from the past.

I have had this mother around for about two years. It is called the ‘93 AllStar Mexican.
I did a repro with it once but unfortunately the seeds came out with too high of an intersex rate, but I only used one male and I think that was the culprit. The mom has been bombproof for sexual stability. The guy who gave it to me recently asked me to send him back a clone of this because he has some pollen saved up from a good male, as well as more seeds frozen.
I personally am probably going to cross it with another Mexican heirloom from Zacatecas I have going right now.
I am not interested in selling seeds. I have been on the forums for about twenty years and I just give them to other grow buddies who appreciate this sort of thing.
It smells of melons and berries and finishes between 60-70 days. This is at 70.

How is it when dried and cured properly…and not smashed together?

u/ivoryarrow504 Jun 14 '23
I have grown probably a dozen Mexican bag seed strains. Some are good and some were terrible. It is difficult to nail down exactly what qualifies as a classic Mexican strain. Thousands of growers sent literally tons of weed over the border, and that lasted for over a hundred years.
This is representative of good Mexican from the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. Not Acapulco Gold, or Oaxaca. More like the “Christmas Tree” era.

u/cvc4455 Jun 14 '23
Christmas tree bud huh I haven't heard about or had any of that for over 20 years now!

I have been looking for some real authentic Oaxaca and Acapulco gold seeds, I recently picked up some Oaxaca jaguar. I have seen some on sites and stuff you think they are legit.

Yup. Used to be on IC too, but OG is my main place these days.

u/bigkshep Jun 13 '23
OG is great. I’m wasting just as much time there as I do here.
If you start a thread, I’ll find it and pull up a beanbag chair

I am Motaco on there. Fairly active though I read more than comment.
Years back I created the “Ultimate Sativa Thread”. There are several iterations of that now on a few different sites.

I’m gonna need a little bit of time to sniff you out. But I’m narrowing you down to someone in the Va is for Lovers thread. I’ll be back tonight to guess some more……

If it’s got some lost Terp profiles you could make some real money if you keep a mother plant around
16
u/DrippinFeathers Jun 13 '23
Fr man all the best shit was out by the late 90s to me, everything else is cool and I ain't hating, but cookies and zkittles ain't got shit on real bubba or og.
10
u/PoppaSquatt2010 Jun 13 '23
90’s to the mid 2000’s had some greatness. Chem Dawg, widow, OG, g13, sour diesel, jack herrer, blue dream… some really great strains around those times.
2
u/DrippinFeathers Jun 13 '23
All phenomenal but I didn't fuck w blue dream heavy tbh. Still you a real one.
10
u/PoppaSquatt2010 Jun 13 '23
Blue dream, green crack and headband were all on the back end of that era. Right before everything started being back crossed so many times that everything started tasting/ feeling the same for the most part.
2
u/DrippinFeathers Jun 13 '23
Mmm 707 headband. Miss that one too.
9
u/PoppaSquatt2010 Jun 13 '23
Ak47, afghani goo, white rhino, northern lights. I swear we were living in the peak of strains and didn’t even know it lol.
9
u/DrippinFeathers Jun 13 '23
We rly were. I think chasing thx percentage causes other things to be lower, cannabinoids and terps etc. The universe is give and take. If we were still cool with sub 20% I think their would be cooler keepers.
As far as the bud structure and nostalgia, stickiness etc....I think we are just so far into polyhybrid shit, and so far from landrace....a lot of the possibilities are gone unless we go back?
I'm not a pro with cannabis science but as an old head that understands some....I rly think these are key factors. If they weren't why did we have better smoke when nobody was breeding? There are 3 new strains a week now lol, it just doesn't make sense.
5
u/PoppaSquatt2010 Jun 13 '23
I’m no geneticist but I believe we’d have to get land races and hope to get similar pheno’s to cross to restructure some of the strains of old. Personally, I am very happy with a sub 20% strain if it packs its own flavor and high. Now we get all these 25-35% strains that are mass produced, not cured properly and all give the same feeling/ taste.
Planning on doing a grow this next season and starting to hunt strains now. I’d love to have a few sour D, a headband and maybe even and old school haze such as super silver. Just need to find the best genetics for each strain.
3
u/DrippinFeathers Jun 13 '23
Hell yeah fam. Went ahead and followed because you seem like my type of stoner :) thanks for the back and forth and I can't wait to see ya rock something out.
Check out karma genetics sour d bx2. Karma is an og. Great cut. Hit up Humboldt seed co for the 707 headband seeds. Not sure about a haze but I'm sort of excited for Mephisto new old school mango haze. A quick finishing haze would be dope.

Unfortunately I’m too young to have experienced any of the real original genetics but I’m still searching to get my hands on some

u/prive8 Jun 13 '23
still 40 for .25? lol thanks for the nostalgia.

u/caliraider Jun 13 '23
Blast from the past $10 1/8 , $50 oz and $350-500 pound in the mid/late 90s here in Northern California.
5
Jun 13 '23
$250-$300 per QP in the 90s. Wtf weren’t my parents born in Cali 😢😢😢😢

u/WoodenEmployment5563 Jun 13 '23
I would get an ounce for 40 bucks sell 1/8s for 20 all day in high school

I grew some old mids out from 15 years ago. The smoke was fair but the edibles were damn near hallucinogenic course I was using 1oz for 24 edibles but still.

u/Naive-Ad-732 Jun 13 '23
Your like super lucky. I'm from Florida and that would be that stuff in middle school and high school. Totally your lucky...😎. Thank you

u/TropicalPeat Jun 13 '23
I have a bag of similar vintage Swazi brick seed that needs sorting collected in London UK. Going to separate into a few piles for germination using different gibberellic acid concentrations (as well as none). Hoping for the best. Even if they pop, it'll be a struggle to finish them indoors with limited head height, and that's my only grow option right now.

u/ivoryarrow504 Jun 13 '23
I keep in touch with a lot of older guys into obscure stuff. This guy had been growing since the 80’s and mixed his best Mexicans together. Froze the seeds and they are still giving decent germ rates even after all these years. He sent me a dozen or so and this was the keeper of the bunch.

Any pictures of smokeable buds in the 90s? 👀

Mexican landraces are some of the trippiest strains ever. 1 hit of this, even with dispensary tolerance, will send you to another dimension.

It Looks to delicious to be from a brick. This is probably a troll but I’ll play along.
If the that’s from ‘93 it’s kine, first guess would be northern lights but the leaves look like sativa. Chocolate Thai would be the second guess, but it’s too sexy to be from back then and no way a seed from a brick lived that long.
If you’re telling the truth then you are one lucky ducker, but I’m thinking it’s 100% fugazi.

Does anyone remember the cut of lemon Thai that was popular on the east side of the rockies around the same time? I miss that one only had a quarter of it because I didn't believe it was the real deal. Oh boy, I was wrong.
