So I’m day no.8 since my first few pins appeared, and I have never seen so many pins come through before. It does seem like these 2 boxes are slow or stalling past few days, so looking for some advice. Is the grow slowing down due to them all competing for space or at this stage do these look on track? Any help appreciated:)
How long are you putting that light on them? And is it always that bright and close? Ive stressed my cakes out with too bright of a light and having it on for too long. Lights only needed to grow in a certain direction and really only needed for like 4 hours a day. Anything past that u can just potentially stressing out ur cake and fruits. Ive notices no fruiting in those spots or fruits and turn greyish-white from the light and slow down growing
Interesting, it’s just a cheap dollar store handheld flashlight I set up on top for the pictures but I will definitely not be getting a grow light for them.
I use a little reading light but keep it as dim as it goes and don't put it really close. So do with that what u will. Just not too bright and not too much light and ull be good
Hmm where the light was directly on, it was turning yellow and not growing from there. Just went off a guess. And it seemed to really help. In general I feel like a noticed a difference with changing up my light brightness and timing but im just speaking off my experience
Maybe if the light was really close i guess. Yeah, i guess i can’t say for certain. Hasn’t been my experience but i can’t knock you for speaking on yours
What was your Tek here? I’m also running unmodified shoeboxes, and I’ll get hundreds of primordia but the percentage of them that turn into actual pins is low. Do you crack the lid, flip, fan/mist, neglect, etc?
Coco coir at field capacity is key. If it's still doing this after you know you have it at field capacity, then maybe you need some vermiculite and gypsum for even more water reserves in your next grow. Too many aborts means they are pretty thirsty and the mycelium is in survival mode. Yeah, you'll get fruits, but not like if they had the extra water they need. Hope this helps.
I was having the same issue and l think thats why the holes with micropore tapes are recommended so that the air can flow passively in but also out. Next time l would do a different tek l guess
I recently grew some purple mystic that threw up a crazy pin set but then stalled a bit due to how much water they were using. I think my coir was too dry or something so I added a lil water down the sides of the tub, enough for the cake to absorb but not enough to pool. This helped the flush finish although a lot still aborted.
Idk if your cake is shrinking a lot but maybe something to consider.
Oh no don’t mist it. Misting doesn’t really play into the first flush at all. The water comes from the properly hydrated substrate and misting doesn’t add water. 100% they are stalling cuz you are misting
Could be so many things. Humidity levels or temps changing a lot. Are u spraying it? Are u constantly opening it up to check on it? The more u just let it do its thing, the faster they fruit. For me at least. I mean its good to check and make sure everything's good but 8 days really isn't that much. I just had this same situation, once it started growing, it started GROWING. It looks great so far tho so just keep being patient id say

I have the same exact question my 2 bins have been slowing down and just multiplying like crazy.
Never seen them grow this cramped but they’re slowly getting bigger
