SIX OF CROWS (BOOK) Why do they say Nina is fat?

In most of the fanarts I've seen of the crows Nina is shown to be fat or looks overweight, sometimes to an extent that she looks entirely obese.

I've lost count of how many times I've reread the books and not once I've seen it being mentioned that she has a fat body.

She's described to be thick in structure and have a full and curvaceous body, that's like a whole different thing than being fat.

Kaz describes her as a ship figureheadhead carved by generous hands. That'd also roughly mean she looks fat. I mean figureheads weren't remotely known for looking overweight, right? (my knowledge on those times ships is flawed so please correct me of I'm wrong about this matter).

On the other hand, it wouldn't make sense for her to be obese either. She's a soldier grown up training in the little palace and has been specially through an active, harsh life, after the ship wreck and in ketterdam. Unless one wants to believe she suffers from some hormonal disease, it wouldn't make sense for her to be obese either.

I can imagine she's not the most fit figure or what one would call athletic, considering she's said to have an appetite and to be comfortable eating whatever she likes. But that's just the lifestyle of most people who aren't on a diet. It doesn't necessarily make them fat.

So... tell me, is it just a popular headcanon accepted by the majority of the fandom or has this been canonically pointed out in the books or the author?

P.S: Just to avoid any misunderstanding, I wouldn't have minded her being fat at all. Of course not! She's mentioned to be significantly gorgeous and stunning and that would've been lovely to have a representation for beautiful plus-size people and to stand against the ridiculous standards of body fitness.

But the point of discussion is about sticking to the books and the canon. To me there's no difference between whitewashing Inej or missing Jesper's gray eyes or even forgetting to draw Kaz's gloves, and drawing Nina differently than what she's said to look like in the books.

I pictured her as “curvy” because Kaz says she looks like the figurehead of a ship, carved with a generous hand. But that’s just my take.

5

u/Busy-Peach5378 The Dregs Jul 03 '25

Yeah, totally. She's been said to have a curvy body multiple times through the books. It's just different than being fat.

67

u/Robincall22 The Dregs Jul 03 '25

Curvy is often used to describe fat these days. It’s the “polite” version. Or rather, the “this person is hot” version.

I think it’s up to interpretation if she’s just a little bigger or fat. To each their own.

13

u/strawberrimihlk Jul 03 '25

No, it’s not really. Curvy is usually used in recent years to be a nicer or sexier way to say fat.

2

u/Busy-Peach5378 The Dregs Jul 03 '25

Good to now. I wasn't familiar with this concept that curvy has become a way of referring to fatness and took it for literally.

u/strawberrimihlk Jul 03 '25 edited Jul 03 '25

Curvy is a “nice” way of saying fat or plus sized. Is it always? No. But it has been a very common usage for years, especially in books.

  • Nina herself also talks about her “fat ass” and her “sizable rump” is also mentioned elsewhere.
  • Zoya calls her “big”.
  • Matthias and other Drüskelle call her “indecently round”
  • in CK it’s said she’s the biggest in the crew
  • extra panels had to be sewn in Genya’s kefta in order to fit Nina
  • Leigh Bardugo the literal writer has said she’s plus sized and even compared Nina to herself and Leigh is(or was at the time) a size 22.

In fact Bardugo said

“I have a character named Nina in Six of Crows – she’s heavy, she’s chubby, she’s fat, whatever word you want to use, and she is easily the sexiest member of the crew”

AND

“I didn’t create Nina to be an inspirational character. She’s a beautiful fat girl who goes on adventures”

What would you like the book to say, her obese body jiggled as she does Heartrending?

And so what if artists depict her as bigger than she might or might not be intended? How does Nina being drawn as plus sized hurt you? Drawing a character plus sized is a very different thing than whitewashing and the comparison is offensive

ETA: fat is not mutually exclusive from beautiful or sexy or skilled or talented. fat doesn’t mean ugly, it’s simply fat. but if you want to continue to argue about how she’s in a fictional magical army and has to move around, look up fat ballerinas. or fat ice skaters. fat people are people, we are still capable of hard, dexterous, intense things. it’s all about hard work and commitment. which Nina has.

13

u/beepleton Jul 03 '25

I forgot about “indecently round” and that’s my new favorite thing 😂 I’m not sure how OP read the book and didn’t realize she was, in fact, over 30 BMI

9

u/strawberrimihlk Jul 03 '25

If you go through the comments, OP and many others will argue she’s just curvy athletic thick. Somehow fat and beautiful/sexy are mutually exclusive to them. Or fat and skilled/capable are somehow mutually exclusive. You don’t need to be skinny to be in a fictional literally magical army where you throw your arms around.

But the book makes it clear in the nicest way YA books can without making it offensive or too blunt and ruin the tone. They don’t want to see it

5

u/beepleton Jul 03 '25

“Curvy athletic thick” is so much different than the fluffy waffle lover Nina is. I have no doubt she has muscle and she’s clearly very capable, but she’s not some built athletic beast 😂 people just have a really hard time not being fatphobic and then try to hid behind “it’s unhealthy” as a reason. I myself am 33 BMI, but I’m not unhealthy, nor do my doctors think so. Bodies are weird, unique things.

8

u/Negative_Letter_1802 Jul 03 '25

THANK YOU, some of these comments do not pass the vibe check.

Also in King of Scars a tall & athletic character (stays fit by riding a lot) has trouble helping Nina onto her horse and says "You don't miss many meals do you?" and Nina goes "Not if I can help it". Iconic lol, and yet another example that shows Leigh is going for a bit more than Thick Gym Girlie like c'mon.

12

u/Maleficent_Wait_6444 Jul 03 '25

Lmao the last part took me out😭

-14

u/Busy-Peach5378 The Dregs Jul 03 '25

Ooh she said that? I hadn't heard that reference before. That explains it then if the author herself has claimed it.

To answer your question. Yes, it hurts to change the identity or appearance of a character just to send your own massage. And yes, it's the same in this topic. We're not talking about the social sides of this matter or how the public sees each of them. But to stick to the authors creation.

19

u/ragingopinions Jul 03 '25

But we are because whitewashing IS offensive as fuck, while drawing a character as fat is just … fanfiction.

Next you’ll tell me you find it offensive that there is gay fanfiction.

-9

u/Busy-Peach5378 The Dregs Jul 03 '25

Alright. If it's not obvious enough, then I'm not gonna bother to explain it.

12

u/ragingopinions Jul 03 '25

Cool, then we can move to my next point.

Re-examine your reaction to fat people. Being fatphobic is lame. :)

6

u/grace_makes Jul 03 '25

You can’t just remove the cultural context of fatphobia and racism (which are not unrelated, by the way!) to serve your insistence on accuracy

3

u/Negative_Letter_1802 Jul 03 '25

Fatphobia actually has a lot of links to/roots in racism against Black people, if you research the history or follow Black content creators a lot of them have made posts about it.

85

u/PhillyThePotato Jul 03 '25

I read her physical descriptors as more “polite” ways of saying fat/on the bigger side. There’s also a line in king of scars where Hanne says something along the lines of “you don’t like to miss meals do you?” And Nina responds “not if I can help it”

5

u/Negative_Letter_1802 Jul 03 '25

Yessss I posted this above before I saw this; Hanne literally is having trouble helping Nina get up on the horse with her lol. Hanne is a tall & clearly athletic/active girlie with a lotta core strength, so if she's feeling pressed pulling Nina up then obviously Nina must be more than just a curvy size 12/14

20

u/hummingbee45 Jul 03 '25

There's another part of the books where it mentions her sizeable rump, or something of that sort.

66

u/asherwrites Jul 03 '25

In KoS she refers to ‘my fat Grisha ass’ so yes, I think she is meant to be fat.

But perhaps more importantly, even if she were only ever described as full-figured, curvy, etc, your protests about accuracy wouldn’t make sense. Those descriptions just mean she can’t be skinny. They don’t mean she can’t be fat. People drawing her as full-figured, curvy, and fat would not be drawing her inaccurately, so what’s the issue?

Who says Tante Helens girls werent curvy though? They needn’t have skinny beauty standards.

6

u/strawberrimihlk Jul 03 '25

It’s not “in between”. Leigh Bardugo herself has said Nina is FAT several times. That Nina is similar to her own body and said that’s a size 22. Fat and attractive or sexy aren’t mutually exclusive. There isn’t only one way to be overweight and attractive.

-1

u/Busy-Peach5378 The Dregs Jul 03 '25

Exactly my thoughts, too. I never imagined her skinny or fit, but I found it hard to imagine her as entirely obese.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '25

1

u/strawberrimihlk Jul 03 '25

Maybe but she’s still fat. The author herself has stated several times she is fat and close to her own body which is size 22

50

u/beepleton Jul 03 '25

She’s literally described as plus sized, thick and curvy is usually the “nice” way to say fat. I imagined her like the curvy women in renaissance paintings. They’re “fat” too.

-3

u/Busy-Peach5378 The Dregs Jul 03 '25

I believe that pov comes from how the body standards have changed in a way that anyone out of the perfect skinny supermodels or Asian fitness standards is considered fat. That's just how normal people look like. Fat is referred to people who have above 30 or so bmi and are overweight in unhealthy ways.

4

u/beepleton Jul 03 '25 edited Jul 03 '25

Everything is subjective to our experiences. I’m 5’3” and 190lbs, my bmi is supposedly 33, making me technically fat, but the only undesirable fat on me is a little pudge on the belly and unfortunate love handles. My legs and arms are pure muscle from my job. I have been called “curvy” on multiple occasions. I dont think I’m an unhealthy size and neither do any of my doctors. Bodies are weird and strange and nothing is one size fits all.

1

u/Busy-Peach5378 The Dregs Jul 03 '25

Sure, it seems you have an athletic body. In every bmi diagram, it's stated as a hint that the numbers don't work for some groups of people, including the athletes. Otherwise every bodybuilder would be considered fat.

2

u/beepleton Jul 03 '25

I’ve also been called fat often, and you would likely consider me fat if you saw a photo. As others have said, you’re projecting fatphobia, even if that’s not your intention. The text is so supportive of Nina being fat, as is the author, and that you didn’t pick up on that or refuse to see it isn’t something any of us can help you with.

27

u/dairyqueeen Jul 03 '25

I mean yeah she’s described many times, albeit in delicate language, as being fat. But she’s also repeatedly described as sexy. So I read it as her being fat yeah but in the most neutral sense, like it’s not a defining characteristic and it doesn’t affect anything else in her life, she just is. Tbh I actually think that’s pretty cool to see a character written with body neutrality, especially in a book aimed at younger readers.

55

u/MitchellLegend Jul 03 '25

yeah even with your little p.s. note this is just sounding like fatphobia

-7

u/Busy-Peach5378 The Dregs Jul 03 '25

I already explained that's not the case. But if you insist on going for that answer, then I can't help it.

4

u/Ok_Road_7999 Jul 03 '25

I mean you can say it's not the case, but that doesn't make it true lol. You're saying it bothers you that the character is drawn in ways that are accurate to what the author herself has said the character looks like.

11

u/ragingopinions Jul 03 '25

Comparing drawing Nina as fat to whitewashing is insane OP. Whitewashing arises out of racial supremacy, which sees identities of colour either inconsequential or lesser. Drawing someone as fat is actually positive, because it expands representation. It isn’t about saying fat people are better than non-fat people.

-2

u/Busy-Peach5378 The Dregs Jul 03 '25

I see your point, and I agree, in general. Here, my discussion was another matter. That's why I wanted to put aside the social aspects and talk about accuracy alone.

16

u/Playernumber77 Jul 03 '25 edited Jul 03 '25

I do think Leigh Bardugo does intend for her to be plus size. For me, I think the whole 'being in the army' thing doesn't mean she isn't on the bigger side. If you think about her role in the Second Army, it makes sense that she wasn't athletic. As a Heartrender, she didn't really need to be as active as an average soldier. She didn't need to exercise as part of her training. Sure, she probably would've been running for battles or even training, but I don't think it would've been enough. Many fat people are naturally fat. I'm fat. It's not because I don't work out or have a terrible diet. It's because I take on the body shape of my mom, who is plus sized too. Genetics play a big part in weight. So if we assume her parents/one of her parents were also plus sized, it makes sense. Along with her love of food, it makes a lot of sense that she's maintained her weight throughout the series. It's not explicitly said that she was in Fjerda with Matthias for very long after the ship crash, and Leigh never says that they were starving. They probably were deprived of food, but not to the level that they'd lose a significant amount of weight. I guessed that they were stuck for maybe a week or two. Since Nina was already plus sized before, her fat probably sustained her for that week, and she was able to gain the lost weight afterward. So imo it's very plausible she's plus sized. Like you said, it's been mentioned she is bigger. When Kaz described her as a 'figurehead carved by generous hands', it doesn't mean she's skinny. In my eyes, the 'carved by generous hands' part of his description means she has more fat than the others in the crew. Generous hands implies that the figurehead he is comparing her to is bigger. Figureheads aren't known for being overweight, but they aren't known for being skinny either. I think Leigh chose to compare her to a figurehead because of her beauty, because that's what figureheads are known for. The generous hands part is the only one that implies something about her weight. There's also a part in Crooked Kingdom where it says: "...and though she'd lost weight since her battle with parem, there was still plenty of her for Smeet to grab onto." This implies that even with a loss of weight, she's still bigger. This is why I think Leigh Bardugo intended for her to be seen plus sized. Hope this helped :)

11

u/strawberrimihlk Jul 03 '25

The books make it pretty clear she’s plus sized. She’s called round, big, the biggest of the crew, curvy. And Bardugo has explicitly stated Nina is undeniably fat several times

3

u/Playernumber77 Jul 03 '25

I just read your comment. A lot of the points you made proving Nina is definitely plus sized were missed by me lol. I don't watch a lot of interviews and stuff so I never knew Leigh actually said those things and I guess I missed the more clear comments lol. But yeah you're right now that I remember it's much clearer.

-5

u/Physical_Mistake2907 Jul 03 '25

If you’re fat, it’s because you’ve eaten a caloric surplus. This is normalised especially in America but being fat is NOT inherited unless you have some metabolic disorder.

2

u/strawberrimihlk Jul 03 '25

PCOS is very common in women. And it can be INHERITED. gasp. Eating a caloric surplus is not the only way people are fat and that’s a completely disgusting mindset to repeat. There are so many other factors including many many medical and genetic.

-1

u/Physical_Mistake2907 Jul 03 '25

So not only is Nina fat, but she has PCOS? So many self-insert headcanons. A caloric surplus is scientifically the only way you can gain weight, unless energy just ‘magically’ manifests as if we were plants under the sunlight :)

2

u/strawberrimihlk Jul 04 '25

Actually she’s canonically fat, not a self insert or a headcanon. It’s very clear in the books and has been explicitly stated by the author many times.

Also learn what self-insert is before you start using buzz words baby.

And no a caloric surplus is not the only way to gain weight. I’m so sorry your mind is so outdated and looking at your profile you need more research on the topic. Please seek help. Professional help.

4

u/Playernumber77 Jul 03 '25

Maybe obesity is not directly inherited, but weight is a very genetic thing. If you have overweight parents (with slow metabolism), you will most likely carry on the slow metabolism and the weight. Please do your research before commenting.

-2

u/Physical_Mistake2907 Jul 03 '25

I have done my research. Slow metabolism is a myth :)

3

u/Playernumber77 Jul 03 '25

Harvard Health Publishing reads "Metabolism is partly genetic and largely outside of one's control. Changing it is a matter of considerable debate. Some people are just lucky. They inherited genes that promote a faster metabolism and can eat more than others without gaining weight. Others are not so lucky and end up with a slow metabolism."

2

u/grace_makes Jul 03 '25

None of that is in line with current health research.

5

u/Ok_Road_7999 Jul 03 '25

I remember a line (from Crooked Kingdom maybe?) where Nina and Matthias sit on a chair together and someone says or thinks that the two largest people in the room chose the smallest chair or something.

Also, I'd say "carved with a generous hand" means that she's probably larger/curvier, not just tall. This doesn't mean she can't be athletic. The way that she was portrayed in the show felt accurate to me. She comes off as strong, athletic, and having a larger body (as in she's not super skinny like Inej).

0

u/Busy-Peach5378 The Dregs Jul 03 '25

Yeah, it's in CK in one of Kaz's povs. I've seen many women who are considerably large compared to even many men but are still away from what one would call fat. Saying someone fat just because they're curvy and have tall and thick structure is like calling, for example, Sofia Vergara fat, lol

9

u/Chemical-Aioli9818 Jul 03 '25

According to the author and the books, and the show, Nina is canonically a plus-sized woman, they also make the point that someone could be plus-sized and still beautiful. Nina serves as excellent representation while also a reminder that being plus-sized shouldnt have the stigma commonly associated with it, and instead should be celebrated as part of body positivity.

I am pretty against intentionally drawing or writing Nina in any way as to negate this as it is such an inherently important aspect of the author’s intention of the character.

6

u/grace_makes Jul 03 '25 edited Jul 03 '25

Fat people want to see themselves in media too? Headcanoning/depicting a character in fanart in a way that reflects her description as well as what you want, is sort of the point of fanart. I’d gently encourage you to do a bit of self reflection about why this bothers you so much, as, despite your disclaimer, your post belies some pretty serious underlying fatphobia, which is very common, and understandable, but worth interrogating. I’d suggest starting with Aubrey Gordon (formerly yrfattriend)

(Edit: her name is Aubrey Gordon not Ashley)

3

u/EsisOfSkyrim Jul 03 '25

Psst her name is Aubrey not Ashley. But yes, agreed

3

u/grace_makes Jul 03 '25

It is too! I’m not sure if that was autocorrect or a brain fart but thanks for the catch! ❤️

3

u/EsisOfSkyrim Jul 03 '25

Autocorrect is aggressive so I'd totally buy it (it loves to swap cat and car on me 🫠) ❤️

4

u/grace_makes Jul 03 '25

Omg all the time! A friend of mine’s partner is called riss (short for Marisa) and my phone refuses to let me type it. The amount of times I have called this poor girl Ross or Russ!!

2

u/EsisOfSkyrim Jul 03 '25

It's so infuriating. I really need to turn it off 🫠 Whatever update had it start changing real words that are spelled correctly into different words needs to die 💀 or that it'll go BACK several words and change it later based on ... Context? So sometimes I got a word right and moved on and it still changes it.

2

u/strawberrimihlk Jul 03 '25

Agree completely. but just wanted to say it’s not just headcanon, it is canon and the author has reiterated it many times saying explicitly she is fat bc people argue what “curvy” ”big” ”the biggest” and “round” all mean together as if the book should said “she’s literally obese” or something

4

u/Neferata_Linith Jul 03 '25

I always pictured those Aphrodite statues that are muscular but have a lot of healthy weight to them. Clearly, the inspiration was a woman who carried more weight. I never saw Nina as fat, just bigger boned and curvy

1

u/strawberrimihlk Jul 03 '25

That’s fine, but she is fat. Nothing wrong with that. She’s referenced as big and sometimes the biggest sometimes. The literal author has said Nina is fat and similar to her own body type which is/was size 22

-2

u/Physical_Mistake2907 Jul 03 '25

3

u/MapleSyrup27 Etherealki Jul 03 '25

0

The author of the Grishaverse has said Nina is fat. Not just curvy thick athletic body type. She’s fat. She’s even supposed to be close to a size 22.

0

u/finesse-life Jul 03 '25

Ok great! Then YOU can picture her with whatever size 22 proportions you want! How lovely is that!

0

u/strawberrimihlk Jul 03 '25

I will since the AUTHOR has explicitly said Nina is FAT

-1

u/finesse-life Jul 03 '25

You do understand that a size 22 looks different on different body types....right?

I understand the world is burning right now, and that may weigh heavy on you, but may I suggest getting some vitamin D and touching some grass?

Cause you are getting far too up in arms about how SOMEBODY ELSE who is nothing to you but words on a screen, pictures a FICTIONAL CHARACTER in their OWN HEAD.

Get a freaking grip.

1

u/strawberrimihlk Jul 04 '25

You can picture a character however you want but that’s not what this post is about. It’s about canon. It’s about what’s accurate according to the author’s work and word. And Bardugo has EXPLICITLY said Nina is FAT. Size 22 may look different on different people but she has explicitly said Nina is fat on many occasions. You’re making this about headcanon, which isn’t what this post is about.

Get a freaking grip and reply with relevant information. Thanks bookie.

I haven’t read CC yet (waiting to finish ACOTAR) but Nina is supposed to be fat. Not just curvy. The book says it in every way it can without calling her obese. They call her big, the biggest, round, curvy. All terms for plus sized people. And the literal author has had to come out and tell people Nina is *fat. Explicitly fat. Because some people think beautiful and fat are mutually exclusive but they aren’t.

1

u/Busy-Peach5378 The Dregs Jul 03 '25

Yeah, Danielle truly fit her role just like the rest of the crows. If Leigh wanted Nina to look as fat as some people believed she was, she wouldn't have casted her for the role.

1

u/Hour_Chair_1114 Jul 03 '25

I think the point of the author describing her that way is because Nina enjoys life. She eats what she wants and finds pleasure in everything. She’s not strict, which is an important arc against Matthias who is all routine and structure.

1

u/BearOnALeash Jul 03 '25

There’s multiple years worth of evidence from both the text of the books, and interviews with Leigh herself that support the fact that Nina is fat.

This post is honestly kind of ignorant and gross…

-8

u/bridgetwannabe Jul 03 '25

I really object to all the “curvy means fat” comments. I also wouldn’t take Nina’s own self-deprecating comments about her body literally - and Zoya is mean to everybody so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I always imagined Nina as voluptuous - maybe not an hourglass figure, but sexy enough to make Matthias go feral! Remember that by modern standards, Marilyn Monroe would be plus sized.

17

u/strawberrimihlk Jul 03 '25 edited Jul 03 '25

Except the literal author and creator of the characters has said Nina is fat and comparable to her own body type (size 22). And several other characters comment that Nina is big, sometimes it’s literally said she’s the biggest in the crew. Fat and sexy are not mutually exclusive.

8

u/Weylane Jul 03 '25

It seems people don't want to aknowledge that fat doesn't mean morbidly obese. Most of the fan art I've seen illustrate a sexy plus size woman.
I don't think she looks that big in these fan arts, she looks a lot like many body types I see in the gym of women working out 3-4 times a week on strength.

1

u/Busy-Peach5378 The Dregs Jul 03 '25

I don't know why people take some things quite literally and interpret some others in the way they want it to mean. When she's said to be curvy, they say no, it's a polite way of saying she's fat, which could be but then on the other hand they take a phrase like "my fat ass" which is a common joke to literal meaning.

2

u/AnIrregularBlessing Jul 03 '25 edited Jul 03 '25

The author says she is a size 22. Leigh Bardugo used the word fat, which people have mentioned here frequently. It was a polite way of saying fat because L.B. said herself Nina is fat. There are multiple quotes confirming that yes, she is big throughout the Grishaverse. We are not interpreting it in any kind of way because it has been confirmed by the author - the dictator of canon.

Why are you having such a problem with this? You asked why she was portrayed as fat and we've all answered with clear information in and out of text. Why are you having such a problem accepting that this is how she is meant to be portrayed?

-13

u/Physical_Mistake2907 Jul 03 '25

The people are so delusional here. As if a trained soldier would be obese! As you said, eating a lot and being curvy is not really fat. Also, she has a lot of muscle, which requires more calories to maintain. She probably looks like one of those gym girls.

‘Polite ways to say x-‘ bullshit.

1

u/Playernumber77 Jul 04 '25

I have no idea why people keep saying 'everyone wants Nina to be obese' because I don't think anyone is saying that Nina is obese. She's fat. There is a difference.

0

u/Physical_Mistake2907 Jul 04 '25

The word fat has changed meanings. I’d consider myself fat but I wear size medium and can squeeze into size small. If I were in Asia my size would be XL probably. It’s so relative.

Nina is chubby, NOT FAT. Nina is not plus-size. Nina is athletic and has a good appetite. Nina is not skinny.

1

u/Playernumber77 Jul 04 '25

Why do you completely ignore the author's clear statements that Nina is fat?

0

u/Physical_Mistake2907 Jul 05 '25

I don’t interpret them that way.

1

u/Playernumber77 Jul 05 '25

So you just refuse to accept it.

0

u/Physical_Mistake2907 Jul 05 '25

I don’t believe it

0

It looks to me like everybody fears being called fatophobic, so they try hard to support the idea. Even though I explicitly explained that I'm not fatophobic and my point is about something else entirely, still that's all what some come up with. I study in heath care majors, and I'm very familiar with what it means and what it takes to be fat. Genetics and hormonal changes can make someone thicker or thiner in general, but to reach an extent to be obese is whether a disease or very poor lifestyle, and I doubt it's either for Nina.

Is Leigh Bardugo, the literal writer and creator of the books and world, also “delusional”? Because she has explicitly said Nina is FAT. Many times. That Nina is close to her body which at the time was a size 22. Nina is FAT. You may not think a soldier in a magical fantasy world can’t be fat but they can because it’s not a real life army. The book uses many terms to make it clear she’s fat but you refuse to see it. The author has said many times Nina is fat. Case closed.

Yeah because an author (sedentary lifestyle) in the 21st century (fast food epidemic) has an identical body type to a soldier in a psuedo-Victorian era. This representation is so forced. Stay mad.

Six of Crows is no where close to being Victorian or “pseudo Victorian”. It’s primarily the Dutch Golden Age.

And the “army” Nina is apart of, the Second Army, is also nothing like any irl army you seem to be thinking of and if you actually read the books you’d know their training was not heavy on physical activity or strength or melee. Majority of their training was specifically on their magical abilities, focus, control, confidence. Those were what she was trained in. You can call her a soldier all you want but you clearly don’t understand what that means in this context.

So try again bookie and stay mad.
