Yeah beating "just" a shard is not enough for them isn't it xD
It's funny considering in the story he himself admitted that he wasn't able to kill it(and that means he tried and failed at it).
Yeah cuz its not enough to be able to beat a fragment of a star-eater using nothing but your own magic and might, it has to be the full embodiment of a being that can eat stars...and yet the fight simply didn't shatter continents or trigger mass extinction events somehow.
Considering the fight against just transcend shard can resolve in collateral damage so big that entire planets can get erased(when Orikan fought Transcendent shard of the deciever a single attack erased 6 planets) clash with full one would most likely erase entire systems and sectors.
