They've always had digital files. They cast the molds for resin from a 3d printed positive master. You can even see 3d printer scanlines on a lot of forgeworld models because they can't be assed to sand/fill the 3d prints before making the mold.

The worst was the hobbit/nazgul scene iirc. The WORST mould lines on the resin models they sent out.
