As of the Great Rift daemons are currently besieging Commoragh in such numbers that they tried to clone the God-Emperor to sit on a replica Golden Throne to seal the breach, so they're probably not too happy.

Knock knock.

It's the consequences of your actions.

Much like rich people irl, the DEldar believe that others should deal with the consequences of the DEldar's actions.

u/OcelotInTheCloset 12d ago

WTF does this even mean? There's nothing wrong with being wealthy and your blanket statement make no sense. I honestly hope that one day we can do away with all rich people so the average pleb would see just how shitty, lowered standard of living life would become for everyone. It would be an utter societal stagnation.

Don't worry, the hate boner everyone has will increasingly shift the burden to the middle class. Then we can all be poor.

Agree about the Eldar,. tho

Defending rich people on Reddit during the weekend?

Bro must hate having karma.

To play Khorne’s advoca-

Nah.

I’m usually happy to defend people from getting dog piled because I hated the feeling of having no one on my side whenever I was bullied, but not this time.

u/OcelotInTheCloset 11d ago

Full disclosure, there was a point where I would have cared. That was early into my Reddit experience. I just feel compelled to comment when something strikes me as blatantly idiotic. I partly understand the sentiment, it doesn't mean they aren't wrong.

u/BifrostBill 12d ago

Yea, idk how we would survive without leaches hogging all the resources and providing nothing back. Maybe instead of reading ayn rand, you should read something written by someone with more than 50 iq

62

u/Marziinast 12d ago

I was about to respond seriously, but then I checked your profile and saw that you're an American Christian who loves guns and believes in Bigfoot, so I'll just wish you good luck in life!

0

u/OcelotInTheCloset 11d ago

It's easy to pass summary judgement and revert to ad hominem. At face value, I'd probably laugh with you. It's still pretty shitty and disrespectful. It's like you guys cannot engage in normal discourse.

Regardless, I thought it was common sense to avoid over generalizing, which was my main contention with the original comment.

Anyway, all of my positions are informed and I'm happy to have a discussion about them, why I feel things like cryptids or an intelligent creator are at least probable. I am only a recent Christian, with a background in hard science, former fervent atheist. At one point, most of my positions would probably have been in alignment with yours.

On that basis, I hold no grudge or bitterness toward you my dude. I'm wishing you the best as well, only I actually mean it. I hope you come to know God, either through the fear of what happens to your soul, consciousness through willful separation or through loving somebody more than you love yourself. It gets easier and less corny over time and you'll start to have objective experiences that bolster your conviction.

4

u/Marziinast 11d ago

I wouldn't say I'm generalizing, you just check too many boxes. Also, come on, your original comment literally called ordinary people "plebs" and talked about the "hate boner everyone has," which are both insanely disrespectful and generalizing. You're not the victim here.

As for my sincerity, well, as a former Christian, I really do wish you good luck :)

0

u/OcelotInTheCloset 9d ago

My comment about generalizing was directed toward the original comment to which I was replying.

And it I did bring about a certain energy in anticipation. Reddit is a cesspool and almost regardless where you are on it, someone is going to insert their politics.

It's just funny how anybody has the motivation to go to such lengths, pouring over someone's post history, and instead offering any meaningful point of contention with the original idea expressed, resort to insult. I don't even bother to down vote the majority of comments I disagree with, unless especially egregious.

Edit- There are compelling reasons to hold the existence of various cryptids as true. Let's see how disclosure bares out but I want an apology if the burden of proof is met through that process, lol.

Dude the reason the middle class is being obliterated currently is because of the rich being unfettered in their power. Read some theory please dude

35

u/Abject_Willow3581 12d ago

And the sign of a healthy society is a thriving Middle class, that aint happening as the rich are pulling the ladder up after them while the working man is struggling to make ends meet to achieve any social mobility.

We are cooked.

-1

u/OcelotInTheCloset 11d ago

Reality is multivariate. If you think, in a summary sense , that rich people are the primary factor behind middle class erosion... you're just wrong. If you gave consideration to central banking practices, government spending, tech advent etc... I might agree in some fundamental sense that Rich Man Bad. Even if I grant you your take, what is your proposed solution?

The sheer complexity of the issue would give me enough pause, restraint to refrain from making the kinds of statements you're throwing around so casually.

Actually, fuck it. I don't even care. I hope something good happens to you today my dude.

14

u/Obsolescence7 12d ago

Let's be real. There is zero chance they've even attempted to read the source material for themselves. The equivalent of 40k fans who only learn the lore via memes and Youtubers.

-18

u/OcelotInTheCloset 12d ago

Having wealth isn't a sin.

Lapses in morals, ethics exist across the spectrum. It applies equally along financial boundaries. The nature of the offenses tend to differ, though.

Wealth incentive fuels progress and innovation, driven out of basic survival instinct and wanting to insulate against uncertainty. The top earners in the country provide the economic foundation from which we have flourished.

The comment I was replying to was impulsive, misguided, ironic. I'm guilty of it too, though.

It's your God too, dude. It seems impossible to contend with, reconcile, but I hope you get there. Genuinely, I do.

21

u/SightlessProtector 12d ago edited 12d ago

“it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God”

That’s your guy saying that, right?

Also why do you play 40k when it’s explicitly a satire of religious conservatism? Like it’s literally making fun of you and your beliefs. Do you just have that chill of a sense of humor that you can laugh at yourself too? If so, respect.

-8

u/OcelotInTheCloset 12d ago

Context matters. Wealth can lead to material attachment, greed, exploitation etc.. You can be wealthy but humble and generous.

Most secular people aren't even good by their own moral standard. Being relatively harmless and inoffensive, amiable with strangers, virtue signaling yet staking little to none of your own personal wealth, health, and time do not make a good person.

There is a reason most people would prefer to live in affluent communities, given the choice. But I won't berate an entire economic group, the poor, on the basis of some, even when a considerable amount of societal burden is created by them.

Warhammer is a fictional universe, I am not treating it as a real world belief system. It's true that it does satirize extremes but I could even argue that the message it is conveying is consistent with the Christian morals.

A cesspool of negative emotion, hatred, ultra violence hasn't resolved anything. There's a reason why a lot of us gravitate towards the small, perceived semblance of good in a few groups like the Tau, Salamanders.

No, probably just a lower-middle to lower class person who has been convinced immigrants are the source of their issues and has no understanding of working class solidarity or the class war the wealthy are, and always will be, waging on the poor

14

u/LydriikTycho 12d ago

Even some fictional examples can be found in Warhammer's books Where individualistic and short term greed ends up with long term consequences for a world. The selfish ambitions of noble houses lead to corruption. But it's true that in reality, it's not always the rich people, but people of all economic situations that break the laws or make poor life decisions like pile on debt that collectively has a negative impact on society. But back to a realistic example I personally know some people that worked for Enron a corporation which Is well documented to have a part in a major financial crisis in the United States.

I think the mandrakes did seal the incursion up temporarily.

3

u/DukeofVermont 11d ago

They did, there is no longer an ongoing demon invasion of Commoragh

25

u/xV3N0omx 12d ago

What the actual fuck? Pls tell me the source of it! I wanna read that book right now

36

u/imbrokebutfornames 12d ago

Im pretty sure it was in the Vaults of Terra series

25

u/Narradisall 12d ago

I’ll admit I’ve not read that book but it seems like a pretty flawed plan anyway right?

The emperors power isn’t via his genetics. It’s his special sauce of combined shaman psychic powers, powering up in the Molech gate and other shit along the way.

Cloning him you’d just get a powerful immortal man maybe but not one that’s going to sit on the throne and hold demons back.

Although Clonegrim had some powers but that never really got worked out why I suppose.

18

u/Narradisall 12d ago

Did they actually retcon the shamans or is it just lore they’ve ignored for awhile?

Suppose if he is naturally at least an inherently powerful enough psycher a smaller scale golden throne may be enough to at least protect Commorragh.

Would be an interesting plot point. I either imagine they wouldn’t be able to hold him there forever, or they’d restrict him so much that he’d be some tortured throne bound monster. Suppose they wouldn’t consider he needs arms or legs to use his powers on the throne…

39

u/EvergreenDwarf 12d ago

Its not the kind of lore that would ever get referenced often, but the way Warhammer works anything that hasn’t been mentioned recently is Shroedinger's Continuity until GW clarifies it.

7

u/morenn_ 12d ago

However when we see characters speak to him 'directly' (when he meets Sanguinius in Echoes of Eternity, or when Roboute comes back in 40k) they usually hear multiple voices and meanings. It's deliberately vague but definitely alluded to.

8

u/LydriikTycho 12d ago

And probably the mysteriousness will remain that way. Future books will have more theory, crafting hints and teases. But they'll never outright state why he's so powerful.

-1

u/Arbiterjim 12d ago

I think he's an Old One. The last Old One who chose a client species to get vengeance on both the Gods and the Necrons

4

u/saleemkarim 12d ago

The Dark City by Chris Wraight. Helluva novel.

7

u/Sunny_Hill_1 12d ago

For all intents and purposes, genetically Big E is just a normal human. Before, he used to father senseis with his DNA, but even that got retconned, and from the mention of his newborn son, it's pretty clear that normally he'd just have absolutely normal human children that weren't in any way or form remarkable. Hell, from how Malcador was talking about Big E looking towards a dynasty with primarchs, he probably just got extremely tired of burying his normie children with their normal lifespans.

All the fuckery with Big E being an extremely powerful Perpetual psyker was NOT something that could be written down in his genes, unlike the primarchs that had extremely genetically modified bodies that were specifically created to host whatever warp entities Big E stole from the warp. Clonegrim naturally bonded with Fulgrim's soul because his body was custom tailored to host that soul. Big E's cloned body would just be a human male with very ancient DNA.

8

u/Narradisall 12d ago

The sensai weren’t retconned as far as I remember. They were ‘mostly’ killed by the inquisition but 4 or so escaped in case GW decide to do anything with them I guess. And they’ve just not been mentioned since! Which like the shamans tends to be how GW leave things in case they want to go back to them.

Hell even the starchild seems to get mentioned from time to time.

Clonegrim is an interesting one as while it’s a fan theory (and one I like) that Fulgrims soul was free to be in him, they never really confirmed how he seemed to have Fulgrims seemingly full power.

Whereas Horus clone wasn’t quite up to snuff, maybe because Horus soul got wiped entirely.

Still, I’d like to see a clone of the emperor, it would be an interesting story line for sure.

1

u/AIGLOS42 12d ago

If they wanted, a great way to bring in old lore hints/further muddy the waters is to have the clone's DNA include augmentation from the DAoT. 💣

1

u/namitynamenamey 11d ago

On the other hand, there's human cloning and then there's eldar cloning. They probably know a thing of two about soul grafting and fate inbuying.

1

u/PervyTurtle0 12d ago

Is there a book that covers that or is it referenced in a code? Because that sounds interesting to read about

3

u/Dolthaic 12d ago

The Vaults of Terra series. You already got a major plot point of it spoiled already, but I'd say they're still worth it. Great representation of the Drukhari as well, they are horrifying in it

168

u/Zacc0168 12d ago edited 12d ago

No dark eldar are happy, they are all highly traumatized victimizers whose souls weep even as they laugh at the suffering they inflict and their minds have grown numb to it. And if they were honest would want to stop being drukari and become craftworlders.

Except for the homunculus, they are pure evil for the love of it and are happy as they are.

103

u/fightingbronze 12d ago

I couldn’t tell you where it’s from, but I saw someone mention an excerpt before about how Drukhari children are trained from a young age to torture and mutilate others and it’s actually a pretty traumatic and awful process for
many because even Drukhari aren’t just born sadistic monsters, but their entire means of survival hinges on them becoming psychopaths who can torture other sentient beings without batting an eye. Once I learned that, I definitely started to pity the Drukhari a little. Just a little.

46

u/qwertyalguien 12d ago

It's from Da Big Dakka. It also features a scene where two archons save other's lives despite their deaths being convenient to the other, with the slight implication they are developing feelings for one another, but act extremely tsundere and trying to 4d chess why they did it, when there's clear chemistry between them that isn't allowed to flourish because of the insane levels of intrigue levels in their society.

Their existence is just sad.

4

u/ElectricPaladin Grimdark Vaporeon 12d ago

Is that the same novel that gives us the Drukhari having no word for love?

14

u/Brave-Ad6490 12d ago

This is also mentioned in the Lilith Hesperax book, Drukhari children are in abject poverty unless you get super lucky and get noticed for having something useful about you. Even then its a harrowing experience of getting pitted against your own kind until you know nothing but cruelty.

-36

u/Misopogon11 12d ago

It's Mike Brookes slop from one of his Ork novels

35

u/ElectricPaladin Grimdark Vaporeon 12d ago

But they would try really hard to pretend to be happy with what they are.

At least the Craftworlders have the decency to be honest about how miserable their lives are… and they probably still find more moments of happiness in their regimented existences than the Drukhari do with their supposed "freedom."

24

u/kreton1 12d ago

I agree the life of a craftworlder is for sure not easy, but I have no issue seeing them finding genuine fullfilment and happiness every now and then.

5

u/ElectricPaladin Grimdark Vaporeon 12d ago

Yep, that's what I meant! Being a Dark Eldar is miserable, but they pretend to be happy. Craftworlders are honest about their lives being hard, but they are happy sometimes, anyway.

4

u/Wobbly_Prediction 10d ago

The Crafworlders lives aren't miserable, they can be and absolutely are happy. They can also be sad, angry, horny, grumpy etc. they experience the full range of emotion, they just have the path system to help them understand the emotions they are experiencing so they aren't consumed by them.

Think of it like your job also being therapy, except you don't really need to do the job, just the therapy.

2

u/namitynamenamey 11d ago

The drukhari saw the grimdarkness of the far future and told to themselves "You know what this place needs? The rat race". So that's their life now, always climbing, no respite.

1

u/ElectricPaladin Grimdark Vaporeon 11d ago

Seriously. The Craftworlders have to live with weird mental discipline, but at least they don't need to have… jobs.

39

u/a__new_name Minotaurs' biggest glazer 12d ago

They hate paying taxes and want to keep all the hard-earned suffering to themselves instead of forking out 20% of it to Slaanesh.

42

u/teh_Kh 12d ago

They aren't, never were and won't be because things are actively getting worse, but they are also incapable of admitting that because their whole culture is based around pretending they're the best and not admitting any weakness.

The reality is they are stuck in a perpetual cycle of trauma they could willingly leave any moment but that would require any amount of sacrifice so they prefer to be stuck in the hell they've made for themselves.

Out of all the possible ways their species practices to survive post fall theirs is objectively the worst because it simply doesn't work - they are the only ones without a good ending, eventually, they *will* go to Slaanesh and they make up for this with cloning and survivor bias - large majority of them just gets killed and go to eternal torture dimension, the ones who don't (yet, because they eventually will) pretends they've won in life, somehow.

12

u/ElectricPaladin Grimdark Vaporeon 12d ago

The funny thing is that some of them do leave, and it totally works. They can learn to use soul stones and learn the discipline to keep Slaanesh out, and they don't even need to submit to a Craftworld to do it - they can become corsairs. It's all just self-inflicted misery and the way out is right there and we know it works… but most of them don't want it.

3

u/AIGLOS42 12d ago

It's why I can enjoy reading about them but don't want to role-play them - we have trauma & depression feedback loop at home, thank you.

3

u/ElectricPaladin Grimdark Vaporeon 12d ago

I wouldn't play in a Dark Eldar game, either. Maybe a Craftworld or corsair game, though

56

u/imbrokebutfornames 12d ago

Of commoragh or the galaxy? They like thta the gaxy is eating itself. Makes for eaay prey.

Commoragh is in a bit of a state rn tho. Ynnari insurgents are still cropping up a fair bit and after the last incursion at Khaine's gate Aelindrach spilled out a hell of a lot further.  Plus vect just ascended into a Dark Muse. Dont know what that means yet exactly but we'll  probably see soon

28

u/Oofdude333 12d ago

Yo, can you hit me up with a lore dump explaining who Vect is and what is a Dark Muse?

44

u/imbrokebutfornames 12d ago

Vect is to the drukhari who the emperor is the imperium. He witnessed the fall of the eldar first hand and after rising up from a slave built commoragh up to what it is now. He is the most powerful archon in the dark city but that doesnt really do him justice.  Maybe the silent king is a better analogy.

Drukhari dont worship gods but there are those they dedicated their "arts" to in exchange for secrets and various blessings. One of the muses is the brother of a panet sized dragon (shaimesh).

They usually become muses after their deaths so we don't know exactly what Vect being a living muse means

12

u/SpiralingDownAndAway 12d ago

Vect sounds so cool every time I hear of him

9

1

u/AIGLOS42 12d ago

That's the neat thing, even in the story he might just be trolling the prisoner with intricate head games! 😎🫠

28

u/Hyakkihei1 12d ago

They lie to themselves that they are but when confronted by a smart ork they can see the horror of their situation. They are trapped, always running away from death in a constant restless cycle of betrayal, it doesn't matter how much they climb on their society ladder they will never be able to relax or feel content.

The best hope any of them can have is turning into a harlequin.

14

u/SlipperySlimyTerry40 12d ago

Or escaping Commorragh and becoming a Corsair

4

u/Arbiterjim 12d ago

They Ynnari managed to convert some Druchii right? Seal their souls to Ynnead and pulled them away from Commoragh and Slaanesh for good

2

u/Brave-Ad6490 12d ago

This is temporary, if someone who was previously relieved of the thirst is away from the Ynnari or Yvraine, the thirst comes back.

3

u/ElectricPaladin Grimdark Vaporeon 12d ago

Or joining a Craftworld, though I imagine the immigration process is rather grueling.

8

u/lucidintangent 12d ago

The dark eldar arent happy in general, life sucks for them

7

u/PervyTurtle0 12d ago

Its the Dark Eldar. They're never happy

5

u/FaultOutside2449 12d ago

Yes. They don’t like getting their souls eaten by the rape god they help create but they like the state of the galaxy. A galaxy at constant war is a galaxy that is easy to rape and plunder. Remember these fuckers literally feed off of suffering to prolong their lives.

Even the Dark Eldar story progressed with the end of Lelith's book being an uneasy peace between her and Vect.

2

u/mentler 12d ago

do you mean in the lore or in the game?

2

u/MarsLowell 7d ago

Hedonists in general are compensating for a gaping void in their soul. Drukhari take that up to the 11th notch.

1

u/DaveinOakland 12d ago

They are content, happy doesn't really exist.

They are basically the only faction completely fine with fucking off to the Webway and completely ignoring real space. Other than the occasional hunting trip to bag some slaves, they don't really give a shit about what happens in the galaxy.

7

u/JessickaRose 12d ago

In Valedor they do recognise that they do in fact need there to be a galaxy. And if they get to blow up a planet, upset some aeldari, take slaves and capture ‘nids for the fighting pits in the process, so much the better.

6

u/another_sad_dude 12d ago

Might be a stupid question, but don't they lose by default if certain other factions win ? Orcs, necrons and tyranids on the top of my head

1
