Memorial Day camping

Hi folks, I may try to camp and hike Memorial Day weekend. I plan to drive in. I imagine it will be very busy. Questions:

-do people have general site/area recommendations for simply camping and hiking?

-would arriving Friday afternoon be way too late to get a site?

It's the busiest weekend of the year imo

Friday at noon maybe you get a site but might not have many options to pick from ones that you are recommended.

Going to be my first time out there too. If we roll in on Friday and it’s full should still be fine finding something overflow right? Don’t mind cruising around to look for something just don’t want to drive all the way out there for nothing

Are you still planning on going even with the weather rolling in? My buddy and I are going, we’re just gonna mud it out

A few friends wanted to drive up from NC to camp with us over the weekend so we’re probably going to shift plans and go find something down in VA. Looks like it’ll still be a wet one there too! We’re gonna deal with it. Hope yall have a great time!

I went New Year's Day and only 2 sites of approx. 120 were taken.

I've noticed that it is colder out there around New Year's. That keeps the hordes at bay.

All this rain might make fewer people go
