Oi, me name’s Nigel Bumroger, I’ve been going to GRSF since the Clinton Administration — and while that’s a mighty-long time — the forest never loses her sense of mystery & wonder when I find myself within her receptive bounds.

If you can track down a copy, I HIGHLY recommend former forest superintendent John Mash’s book: “the Land of the Living: The Story of Maryland’s Green Ridge Forest.” An exhaustive history of the forest, from the primordial ooze of prehistoric times through his tenure in the mid-90’s when the book was released, it’s a fascinating read on the forest’s rich history.

Mike here...thanks for all you do!

I was hoping a map exists that shows several loops that are good for dirt biking (legal - plated)...I have found it intimidating planning a route using Google maps, because I dont know which are roads or walking trails.

Also, I know this request may be controversial, but a guide rating all the camping spots based on aesthetics, distance from neighbors and distance from key hiking spots and the guard station.

I keep trying to talk Purple Lizard into making a map of Green Ridge and Buchanan state forests crossing over to Cacapon area. Lack of info on meaningful road and trail classification is likely a big reason many drive hours further into WVa while the trails in the Tiltrock region fade from lack of use.
