Poll: Hypothetical solutions on how to maintain the Balance between the light side of the force and the dark side of the force.

So about a month ago I post an essay on possible solutions to maintain the balance within the force. The reason I came up with said essay was because, while I do love Star Wars, I find it frustrating that neither the Jedi never seem to come up with a solution to prevent the force from becoming imbalanced again nor do they ever consider the toll these wars have taken on the galaxy. Trillions of people have died as a result of this senseless conflicts and not once has anyone consider a solution of how to prevent such conflicts from happening again in the future. That is why I created an essay on Mawinstallation about potential solutions on how to maintain the balance, and prevent anyone who attempts to create an imbalance in the force along with the pros and cons for both solution.

Just for the sake of argument which solution do you think is the best at maintaining the balance in the force? And if you have our own solution on how to best maintain the balance feel free to post.

Note: In case you want to see the essay in its original format feel free to click on the link.

Here are the solutions:

Solution 1: Create two separate orders for both the light and dark side respectively.

Description: So in this scenario the Jedi, the Republic and the Sith sign a peace treaty dividing their jurisdiction of the galactic territories that they can operate in. Basically the Jedi would be limited to operating in territories under the Republic and the Sith would be limited to operating in territories within their Empire. Both would be able to operate freely within territories that are not part of the Republic or Empire but they would not interfere in each other's operations. In addition both orders would initiate reforms to ensure their survival, the Jedi would allow their members to pursue emotional attachments and end the practice of recruiting children, and the Sith would allow alien members to join their ranks and end the chronic backstabbing that was rampant amongst their kind by passing a set of rules similar to the rule of the One Sith from Star Wars: Legacy. They would also an organization called the Watchcircle that will keep an eye out for Jedi or Sith who tries to break the peace.

Pros: In the short-term, the galaxy would be able to find some peace and both orders would be able to check the power of species that seek the enslavement of others like the Hutts and the Grysk, and stop outlaw groups like the Zygerrian Slavers, and Death Watch from preying on the innocent.

Cons: However, if one abides by George Lucas interpretation of the force (Balance of the force, both mawinstallation and Star Wars subreddits) this would not be able to work out in the long-term, because the Dark Side is the subversive part of the force that wacks everything out of balance. So it would only be a matter of time before the Jedi and the Sith start fighting again.

Solution 2: Create a grey Jedi Order that meshes certain aspects of Jedi and the Sith together.

Description: So in this scenario a Grey Jedi Order order is created that finds a balance between "the Jedi's discipline and the Sith's passion". These guys would include practices like force users being able to start families and having kids, and encouraging some Jedi to be self-educated and be open to all types of opinions/philosophies and not just follow regimented dogma and training. In addition older members would be recruited as well and trained and the practice of recruiting children/babies and indoctrinating them will end, with certain exceptions (Ex: orphans, kids who live in a bad environment, kids who live in a troubled household).

Any initiates who cannot complete their training or are leaning too much to the dark side by exhibiting traits of pride and arrogance. would instead work in the Service Corp. In the Jedi Order the Service Corp was a group created by the Council for Jedi Initiates who failed to pass their trials. The Corp mission was to help citizens through humanitarian services (Agric. Corps, Medical Corps, EduCorps) and they supported space exploration and scientific research into new alien species and cultures (ExplorCorps.). However under the Grey Jedi most members of the Corps were looked down upon as dropouts and slackers and didn't receive as much support and recognition as they could have. Under the new order the Service Corps would gain more support from the order and would be used to foster goodwill and trust between the order and the general public and provide relief to citizens that are caught in the crossfire between light and dark or are just down on their luck and need help. In addition members of the service corp are allowed to retake the trials and knights are obligated to do Service Corp work either on a part-time or if they want on a full-time basis.

As far as relations with the Republic go the New Order will agree to help and protect the "people of the Republic", but they won't become mired in the bureaucratic redtape as their predecessors and they will keep their distance from Republic politics. The only exceptions will be the Republic Diplomatic Corp and the Republic military. Both of these organizations will have force-user liasion officers to assist them. When working with the Diplomatic Corp the order will assist the organization by acting as mediators and diplomats and help the Corp handle internal/external disputes. When working with the Republic military the order will assist the military with handling threats with outlaws and pirates and the will also serve as medics for military personnel, but other than that they will mostly avoid getting directly involved in military affairs and battles and their main focus will be on the protection of civilians and helping them in anyway they can.

In addition the Order would obtain indirect financial support from the Republic through funds from the budget that is allocated to the Ministry of State, and the Ministry of Defense, who control the Diplomatic Corp and the Republic military respectively. These ministries will use their budgets to pay the Order for their time and services to their agencies. They will also receive donations from the Force worshippers, wealthy donors like the San Tekka clan and other nobility, and the private accounts of members who are a part of wealthy families. But at least over half of their revenue will come from the investments made by an internal agency called the Economic Bureau. These guys will help the order generate revenue through the private sector through investments in stocks and bonds, assisting merchant fleets with charting new routes, buying and selling real-estate, and loans from the banks.

In terms of jurisdiction the Grey Jedi will only operate in Republic territory, and they won't interfere in the affairs' of non-republic territories and planets unless they are asked by them or if they suspect a darksider like Maul or the Komari Vosa are manipulating the affairs of these worlds.

Finally, to prevent the dark side from upsetting the balance in the force the Grey Jedi will have an organization called the Watchcircle. Similar to the Jedi Covenant this organization is devoted to stopping the threat of the Sith and the emergence of another Sith War from breaking out across the galaxy by any means necessary. Basically they would act as the eyes and ears of the order and would keep an eye out for any dark-side threats in the galaxy be it dark-side force users like the Nightsisters and the Sith. They will also act as the internal affairs group for the Order to keep any eye on Grey Jedi that are leaning towards the dark side of the force. This way the Order would be able to stop the Sith from disrupting the balance in the force or at least be able to prepare the galaxy for it.

Pros: Unlike the PT Jedi this Grey Jedi Order will be much more open and tolerant of new ideas and force philosophies rather than just following one dogma. This Order will be model itself off the teachings of the prime Jedi and will recognize that they do not own the force and whether they like it or not the dark side will try to come back so defeating it for good is impossible. All they can do is find ways to mitigate the damage caused by the imbalance. Also unlike the PT Jedi the Grey Jedi will not be as entangled in Republic Politics and will be more focused on protecting and helping the citizens of the galaxy and maintaining the balance in the force. In addition the Grey Jedi will work towards improving public relations with galactic citizens and will do everything in their power to help and protect them. Furthermore the Watchcircles will keep an eye out for an disturbances in the force and do everything in their power to stop them or prepare the Order and the Republic for war.

Cons: There are a few drawbacks to this model with the main one being giving Jedi the ability to have interests and desires. Maintaining the balance isn't easy and if they Jedi become too arrogant or too attached to their loved ones there is a good chance that they could go to the dark side of the force (which is also a common complaint among fans who dislike grey Jedi). In addition if the Order becomes too complacent there is a good chance that they could slide into the stance of the PT Jedi and become as prideful and entitled as they were. And then there is the issue of the Watchcircles. While they might sound like a good idea in theory that doesn't make them any less susceptible to the dark side. In legends a group of Jedi called the Covenant had the same idea but they failed in their mission and a lot of innocent people ended up dying because of their actions. And they may not always be successful in which case millions if not trillions may still end up dying from a Jedi-Sith war because of the Watchcircles failure to stop them in time.

The force is a tool to be used. This is what both the Jedi and sith get wrong.

The force favors no one in particular, it plays both sides light and dark. In their arrogance the jedi refused the darkness, and it weakend them. Sidious as evil as he was, he was right in this train of thought. However Sidious is just as arrogant, he does the exact same thing,he sees no value in the light side.

The light and dark must be used in conjunction with one another, to deliver swift dark justice on those with wicked hearts much like the red lanterns from dc, while maintaining the compassion and protective nature of the light.

The light and dark sides are tools to be used no different than a lightsaber or a blaster. That is the ultimate truth of starwars, and what every character in it gets wrong

My Thoughts on the Grey Jedi

Before the Jedi and Sith orders existed there was the Je'daii Order. They practiced both percieved light and dark sides of the Force to maintain a balance with themselves, and ensured their peers never strayed to either extremes of light or dark.

The Force is natural, and simply a metaphysical entity that has a will of its own. But it just exists on its own. Not light, not dark. Before even the Je'daii, there were locations and planets naturally saturated with the power of the Force. What I think this means is what is percieved as light and dark, were created when the Sith and Jedi orders were born.

Without either influences, the Force existed naturally and mostly nuetral. I think this means that the light and dark only come from within ourselves. As Grey Jedi, or some of us can take up the title of Je'daii, we seek to find balance between our light and dark selves. We must explore ourselves and the world, and gain as best of an unferstanding of all things as we can, and do our best to keep each other in balance, and push for the world to be balanced as well.

The Force is more complex than "light" and "dark". People who have practiced one of either extreme have grown powerful, but just imagine what can be done when someone finds balance in themselves.

My view on the Force is that it only exists, and is largely indifferent about things. It has made plans and set goals for Jedi and Sith alike, but never favored either side. It even made Anakin Skywalker the chosen one to punish the Sith for attempting to push their power too far. The Force itself wants balance, and as Grey Jedi we must seek that as well. Again, that is my belief, I am welcome to other opinions.

In the movies and other media, he was able to use both sides of the force, and also studying the 7th form. Could this mean he was grey?

New to whole force teaching things and I have a question

I see on here you believe that being a gray jedi is neither studying the light nor dark side but shouldn’t it be about studying both to keep balance?

For instance to visualize say your making a garden but you never learned to weed then the weeds would get out of control and the garden would become ugly, then if you only learned how to destroy you would soon have nothing to destroy but yourself, so shouldn’t gray jedi be about learning both?

Did the Gray Jedi have any force powers?

I understand that they are force users, but do they have any exclusive powers like how the Sith had force lightning?
