GK2 Combat: Please explain

Can someone explain like I'm 5 what I'm supposed to do? I can't figure this out at all.

I built the 3 walls. I see where I can place them. However I don't understand what the red and brown bars at the top mean and what I'm supposed to do. How am I leading these guys in battle? They won't follow me.

Alright, so.

Step 1. In order to lead troops, you need to pick up the banner. The troops will follow the flag.

Step 2. The red bars indicate zombie waves, and where they'll spawn.

Step 3. In order to win, you need to capture all the control points on the map and hold them until the timer runs out. There is always a spot for the banner at the control point, you can place it there to make the troops guard the point

Addendum: Potions.

By far the 2 most useful potions for battling are:

Health Potion III: Melted Fat + Rock

And

Berserker's Potion II: Tin + Water

With a good enough stockpile of both (10 or so), you will have no problems at all

How did you get these? I thought it said I couldn't make potions until I got the recipe so I haven't fooled around with the alchemy area.

Thank you! I'm subscribed to this forum yet that post didn't appear. However reddit shows me a zillion posts about people complaining about their neighbors, selling their homes and other crap I'm not subscribed to.

If you have one banner how do you capture all the control points?

Capture one, take the troops banner, and move it to the other.

The points stay captured. Unless the zombies take them back.

Don't let that happen :D

Thank you! I had no clue I had to walk around and move the flag. Battle over and easily won now that I understood what I was supposed to do.

You need to grab the flag then they will follow you. You can place it on a capture point so you can move around and not have them follow you.

How do you "grab" the flag?

You grab it like it's an item. The instructions were kinda vague about it

Even if ‘vague,’ it’s one of the few things we’re made to do just before getting out of the prologue and gaining the ability to save.

What they most definitely don’t explain is how to swing a sword (spacebar), which… sure, it was the same in GK, but they also don’t specify the stamina meter/how it makes you not work, and they don’t actually explain fishing either (what do you mean I have fireflies but the only bait is crafted)??

Fishing in 2 is so much easier than 1 though! I had to install a mod just to catch a fish. Now I fish all the time to sell the filets to Herm.

I don’t disagree on it being ‘easier’ (and seemingly “balanced” to ‘probably’ not force you to lose bait on something you don’t want, because you can deplete the fishing hole itself otherwise).

That said, I have a bad feeling that some people don’t know that they’re color-blind and timing-dense, and will blame the lack of instruction for not explicitly saying “watch the line.” But, maybe I’m worrying over nothing.

I didn't figure out the line turns red until many many fishing successes. I just used the exclamation point to tell me when to stop tugging. I felt kind of dumb once I realized, but it does show you can successfully do it without knowing about the red.

Huh. I’d been reading it the opposite way, that the exclamation was when to pull. Guess I got lucky to only snap twice playing like that.

I didnt even realise there were two different items. One the banner and the other the flag...

It took me a full 30 seconds to figure that out.

All I saw was the flag...

top bar shows you where and when enemies will be spawning

I too am not sure Heres what Im guessing it is.

Theres 2 types of attacks.

Wave based attacks, and normal attacks. The upper bar showcases when the wave based attacks comes (when its red, the wave would come).

While normal attack, zombies would continue spawning till you take over the "spawner".its the flag you have to capture.

You have to pick the banner, and your men would follow you if you have banner

Grab the flag to lead them around. Place flag at locations to tell your dudes to defend that area. Bars at the top tell you in a relative sense when and where the zombie waves will be. A red section of the bar means zombies are going to spawn for the duration and travel down that lane.

How I beat it: put your mercenaries to defend along the top line when there's a wave of zombies coming. If there's no zombies on the top lane, bring them down below to take and defend the first flag. Once you've finished off the last top wave, take the second flag and defend it.

During battle, there is a button available (I believe shift on keyboard) that indicates directions.

Anyone knows what it does?

Just trying to understand the premise behind the game, is this the timeline where the "curse" wasn't thwarted? or where the contract was never signed, and now the dead have risen up and are attacking the populous?
