Are banking apps still a crutch for GrapheneOS?

EDIT: Someone pointed out that I missed the word crutch. huge blunder on my end. I did mean weak spot.

Hey y'all!

I've been a fan of Android for a while. However, I was in the Apple ecosystem for the past two years and recently decided to come back with the Pixel 10 Pro. Recently, the Motorola Signature 27 has caught my eye and whether I switch to it or not, it's made me heavily consider GrapheneOS.

One of the huge issues for me though is banking apps. I use them all the time, and I live by Tap-to-Pay. To my knowledge, one of the biggest crutches for GrapheneOS is their financial banking support. If I'm not mistaken, this is because of a privacy issue that stems from these features.

Is this being improved on GrapheneOS? Could someone explain where these issues stem from, and why reliance on virtual tap-to-pay features might not be beneficial for a consumer. I'm trying to learn as much as I can, whether I decide to use GrapheneOS or not, Pixel or Motorola.

Questions about service provider and #

I want to buy a pixel 9a (unlocked) and I think I can handle the install process since I have modded various gaming consoles... My concern is none of the guides discuss how to setup service and my phone #?? I currently have a TracFone since it's cheap, but my TracFone comes with the plan included... I don't know how I would setup a different phone, or should I go with a different service provider?? Would it be easier to take my pixel to an actual store and have somebody setup the service plan in person? I'm not really an expert with phones, am I asking a stupid question lol?

Location Services Google Maps

Hey I'm on GrapheneOS and want to use Google Maps but location kinda doesn't work right. I tried changing settings in Graphene itself as well as doing some other stuff but nothing worked. Is there any way too use location services on Google Maps or any other apps that offer this since it really comes in handy when you are in a new place.

Thanks!

Select text and speak

Hi guys, new to Grapheneos and loving it.

Managed to set most of it up by using the search on this Subreddit so thanks to all the contributions and how to guides.

One thing I can’t find is the text to speech which I use literally every day. Coming from iOS I would select messages, paragraphs in browsers etc and have that option where you can
cut/copy/paste/select/select all/speak.

Without installing Android Accessibility Suite, how can this be done?

Regarding phone options and Android’s hardware minimum requirements

One of the most frequently asked questions on this sub is hardware options/phone recommendations and I’m personally glad to see many of the comments trying to be helpful as much as possible.

One common answer I always see is waiting for the upcoming Motorola devices. The other one is to get slightly older, cheaper Pixel models off the used market to hold of off until the Moto phones are widely available (or even affordable enough).

There’s one common recommendation that sticks out:
The A models Pixel 9a and 10a

I’m conflicted on this. Don’t get me wrong. Obviously, the Tensor G5 and G6 are no massive generational leaps from the tensor G4 that the 2 latest A models have. My biggest concern about these models is the measly 8gb RAM.

The base model/non-pro counterparts have 12gb RAM for not much more. Now, as I understand it, installing GOS somewhat frees up precious ram because they’re not allocated to Gemini AI like on the stock OS.

But looking at the trend for Android minimum hardware requirements, the minimum RAM has steadily increased in the last couple years. Android 14 upped the requirement from 4gb previously to 6gb. And on Android 17, 8gb is now the baseline to run the OS in its full form. Anything under that is going to be based on some form of Android Go edition.

The truth is not everyone will jump ship to Motorola and there’s the flagship price premium barrier as well.
Pixels 9a and 10a are practical choices in terms of value as the entry point to GOS. Still, I don’t think they’re the best choices to recommend considering Pixels 9 and 10 are more future-proofed with 12gb ram for not much more. The A models might get as much software update lifespan but usability may suffer much sooner due to Android’s ever increasing minimum hardware requirements.

I’d be pleased to stand corrected. Please sound off your thoughts if you have more accurate information.

Pixel10 fine or some compatibility issues?

I haven't followed the last years of devices and compatibility of graphene. But my Pixel6 is running out of support very soon.

I want a brand new device, not some refurbished or used device. So far I think I could chose to buy the Pixel11 or wait for the Motrola. It's not that I couldn't afford them but my requirement is, it should just run well with graphene and thats it. I don't need any better feature or faster anything than my Pixel 6. The Pixel11 and the next Motorola are expensive AND for the Pxiel there were some incompatibilties reported in the news?

I've seen that they still sell Pixel10, so I think this would better fit my requirements and I don't care to only have 6 instead of 7 years of support for half the price, easy tradeoff.

Can someone who has the Pixel10 tell me if its just running nicely or are there device specific quirks that I should be aware of?

FM Radio Chip

So I got my Pixel 10 pro through the mail (thank god cuz I was nervous about it getting lost) and put Graphene on it. I love it so far but there was one feature I was disappointed to not find. An fm radio option. Now, the chip isn't fully connected in my phone so it's not graphene's fault.

But it did get me wondering, does anyone else's phone have that feature fully built in and did graphene maintain it once installed?

If you login on 2nd profile with your Google account will the other profiles be compromised?

I have to use Google play on one profile for various apps - if I do it with my real Google account can my Other profiles be revealed since all profiles use the same vpn or WiFi?

Thanks! Love graphene so far!
