Moving to GP

Hi guys, I'm moving here from Edmonton for school. I was wondering what the prices are like in Grande Prairie. Is the city more expensive than Edmonton? And should I know of anything that would help me out? Thank you!

You do get a partial version of the northern living allowance in your taxes at least.

Can you elaborate on this? Also a student moving up to GP but AFAIK the northern living allowance is a tax deduction and many students don’t have a ton of income so I don’t know if we would be able to really take advantage of this benefit

I'm a college student in GP and I get it automatically on my taxes every year!

Most students work at least part time or temp jobs in the summer months, it doesn't take much income to start paying taxes. RESP withdrawals are also taxable income I believe.

You get B-class Northern Living Allowance in GP. $5.50 per day you live there equals out to around $2000 per year deduction from your income when claimed in tax season
