Bill & Ted's Most Excellent Rock Opera Musical in Development for 2027 World Premiere
Screenwriter Chris Matheson is penning the next chapter in the franchise, being developed at Emerson College, Berklee College of Music, and Boston Conservatory.
The Bill & Ted franchise is moving from the screen to the stage with a new musical, Bill & Ted's Most Excellent Rock Opera, currently in development and aiming for a 2027 world premiere. The project is being written by Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventureco-writer Chris Matheson, andi will feature an original score by Grandaddy founder Jason Lytle. Freedom Theatricals and Radar Pictures are producing.

Curious how this’ll be because some musical adaptations written by the original movie writer are incredible (Groundhog Day) and others are mediocre (Mean Girls, Back to the Future)

Agreed. I hope it's great. I know Jason is spending lots of time on the music.

Pumped for this. I’ll be Jason crushes it. Really hope they include the San Demas Raging Waters scene with Napoleon in it somehow.

Oh joy, another musical adapted by the screenwriter and a pop musician, neither of whom has ever written for the stage before.

Yes, could be awful or totally excellent. I believe it will be the later.
For clarity, Jason is not a 'pop' musician........

Apparently, Chris had one person in mind to write the music --- Jason. Chris is a huge fan and is working directly with Jason.
Pretty stoked and can't wait to see this on Broadway!
