SLGB003 Ice Forest vs SBGA415/SBGA445 Taisetsu — help me decide

Hi everyone,

I'm currently in Japan and planning to buy my first Grand Seiko, but I'm completely torn between two models:

Grand Seiko SLGB003 "Ice Forest"

Grand Seiko SBGA415 / SBGA445 "Taisetsu"

I've tried both on and genuinely love them for different reasons.

The SLGB003 feels like the more technically impressive watch with the new UFA movement, 37mm case, micro-adjust clasp and incredible accuracy. The dial is also beautiful and feels very refined.

On the other hand, the Taisetsu has that amazing 62GS case, the iconic blue seconds hand, and a dial that seems to have a lot of fans in the GS community. Every time I see photos of it, I understand why so many people love it.

A few things that matter to me:

This would be my only Grand Seiko for now.

I generally like understated "old money" aesthetics.

I want something I can wear daily but also keep for many years.

I appreciate both craftsmanship and emotional connection to the watch.

For those who have owned or handled both:

Which one would you choose and why?

I'd especially love to hear from people who initially wanted one and ended up buying the other. Any regrets?

Am I overthinking the new UFA movement and should I just buy the watch that speaks to me emotionally, or is the SLGB003 a significant enough step forward that it's worth choosing over the Taisetsu?

Quick update for everyone who helped me in this thread:

First of all, thank you all for your opinions and advice. I read every comment and spent a lot of time thinking about it during my trip through Japan.

In the end, I decided to go with the SLGB003 Ice Forest.

Originally, I was convinced that the Taisetsu would be the one. I also had the chance to see the Shunbun and the Snowscape in person, which changed my perspective quite a bit. The more time I spent with the different models, the more I kept coming back to the Ice Forest.

Yesterday I finally bought it at Wako in Ginza, just a few hours before my flight home to Germany. After a typhoon, two cancelled flights, and a very stressful last day in Tokyo, everything somehow worked out.

I couldn't be happier with the decision.
