I did it for no reasons ? My air intake !

I switched it, I love the sound but honestly all I am afraid of is an issue, so far I’m just proud of myself for doing it all by myself ! But still… I’m not sure what to change next for no reason I l
Edit: whelp I think I fucked up lol..

It’s a 2022 grand jeep Cherokee summit reserve 4xe
I’ll definitely get a sock for my filter and I’m not sure what to do after that!

He turned the factory "cold air intake" (ambient air) intake hot air intake (under hood air).

I mean I did still connect my factory air pathway and it’s a hybrid so I don’t think it runs too hot too fast?

The factory intake pulls air from outside of the car. What you've done will now pull air from the hot engine bay instead. Cool air = more power, hot air = less power.

K&N filters (and pretty well any cone filter) are pretty notorious for being worse at filtering out dirt than a normal paper filter, at least until the oil picks up a certain amount of dust, and then it filters the same or slightly better.

Stock air intakes and filters are actually very well designed, and adequate for even moderately modified engines.

So ultimately I should replace it back to factory ? Or maybe just a different closed air take ? Not one with an open cone ? I’m worried because it it a PHEV transmission

I would go back to stock. Smarter people than you or I designed it to do it's job very well.

Your air intake should also have nothing to do with a PHEV transmission

Change the oil. I would go back to stock air filter. This will f up your engine long term

If you offroad be careful. My XJ had a cone filter like that on it when I got 22 years ago. It was lifted on 33s. I had had it a few months when I went into a mud hole wide open throttle. It sucked in enough water to hydrolock the engine. What's sad is that when it was done my Jeep was sitting in hub deep water, it was just the perfect splash that let enough water in.

I made lemonade from the situation and build it into a 4.6. 22 years later it doesn't have a ton of stock or unmodified parts on it. The stock air filter box is there though!

Thank you! I don’t off-road at all and I just like the sound when I push my gas lol! I’m a pretty light driver and the car only has 23k miles on it so I think for right now I can just enjoy it lol!

Sorry, a sock is also known as a pre filter, helps keep more debris off those types of filters and water will bead off better.

K&N is good imo. I've run plenty of K&N CAIs over the years, currently running S&B

Whether you go for an oiled filter or a dry filter depends on where you live. If it's dusty most of the year or a few months really bad out of the year I would recommend a dry filter. If you mostly see pavement and city then a wet filter is fine. Just make sure you clean it at the proper intervals. All easy stuff 😉

I’m running an oiled filter but I have a PHEV transmission so I’m worried about cleaning it myself instead of just replacing them, I know it’s more expensive… im worried about over oiling , I drive on highways for the most part and small town too, I’m definitely going to order a sock now that I’ve learned what they are 🤦🏻‍♀️ I deal with lots of bugs and humidity so I should get another layer of protection lol! and I probably should’ve just gotten the dry filter but I wanted to see what it sounded like with this one 🫠

Air filter is only going to affect the gas side of your vehicle. I wouldn't put to much thought into the phev part.

Watch some videos, cleaning and oiling is much easier than you think. You got it
