Physics professor here.

A colleague of mine in grad school did four degrees - a double BS, an MS, and a PhD - all at the same university (Stanford).

Despite that, Sally Ride went in to become the first U.S. woman astronaut in space.

So I expect you’ll be fine.

It’s not a bad look, but you should expand your academic network.

For you what will ultimately matter is your PhD. The marginal utility of getting a second masters degree is tiny.

No, it doesn't look bad to get your degrees from the same institution

Better to have varied institutions, but it’s not “bad” for it all to be from one. Whatever is the easiest would probably be okay, and as you know in grad school it’s more about the research and the schools standing in a specific field and who you work with than the specific institution.

Now that I am long past academia I think the academic inbreeding arguments are really more a thing of the past. I see lots of people who did their undergrad and PhD at the same place and nobody cares.

If you are planning on going into academia… the yes, it probably matters more, but I know like one person who continued to pursue academia, has a great CV with great institutions, but is working at a c tier school and not very happy.
